Cheryl's Fried Fish & Soul Food

The food was vey good. We have gone there before many times when Cheryl was the owner. The Mac & Cheese was very good and The whiting fish was great. Had to wait a long time for food. The price of the food $$$ but they serve a lot. It is under a new owner with Cherly's name. The owners are Dominican. Great food!

I love hole in walls. The places that are as far from "The Cheesecake Factory" type of establishment as I can get. I do go out for fine dining but I am never deceived by BS atmosphere. Give me good food, period. So many places look fine but...then there are places that don't look fine but the food is so good you may as well be blind because with food like that who cares. Cheryl's Fish is that. I've never had better fried fish. Anywhere.
It's run by Cheryl and her son. They somehow get the breading to stick to the fish. The breading is homemade and the fish is fresh. In other words this place doesn't take frozen junk out of a freezer and stick it in a fryer.

The soul food items are many and also delicious.

They are slow. Expect 20-30 minute wait.

They are inconsistent. This is ok for me because that means they are actually making the food. The Cheesecake Factory is not inconsistent. It's exactly the same everytime. And while on one visit the rice (or whatever) isn't as good as the last time you had, it's never bad. And when they hit it you'll be... Well you'll have an emotional moment. I love them.
And speaking of love they are the nicest people.

I'm new to upstate. Looking for new food spots and I gotta That brother got the touch in the kitchen. Throws it down each time and doesn't disappoint

Fantastic food! We are so glad we discovered this place. The flounder is to die for and the red velvet is awesome! The gentleman that's there is always so kind.

If you've had real southern soul food before you will know the difference. The food lacks flavor and I've read other posts where people say they have gotten sick from her food. This place is terrible.

I placed a very large order and spent $100 in this restaurant. I was a bit alarmed to begin with because she was cooking with no hair net as well as no gloves. Waited over an hour and 15 minutes to get home and there was hair tangled in the food. I called Cheryl and requested a refund and immediately told my family to stop eating. I brought the food back. She then refused to give me a refund and proceeded to call the police on me because I insisted I wanted my refund and no longer wanted any food from her establishment. The police arrived and agreed that I should be granted a refund for the whole order being that I brought all of the food back and it was clearly inedible. She then began arguing and going back and forth with the police that SHE called on ME. I understand things happen and no one is perfect. But you cannot treat paying customers like that and refuse to accept that you were wrong. She needs to do better for her business and the community she is serving. Would not recommend. Very unprofessional and I never leave reviews! But for this I will.

We almost didn't get to eat here. Grubhub said that the restaurant was closed, but after we called we learned that they were open. Although we called our order in, the wait was quite long, but it was worth the wait. I ordered the fried fish family dinner (flounder) with macaroni and cheese, greens, potato salad, and coconut cake. Everything tasted like it came from my grandmothers kitchen. The meal fed three of us. I may go back for the chicken and waffles tomorrow. They are very busy at dinner time so be sure to call ahead and be patient.

Cheryl provides home cooked flavor and menu options while also providing affordable menu options. Give her a try! You won't be disappointed! My favorite is the curry chicken and her Mac and cheese is that southern taste you have been looking and longing for!

Rude rude rude. The woman that runs the place was completely frazzled that door dash duplicated our side items so we just needed to change two. After calling and sitting on hold for 8 minutes while they talked, I hung up and finally got through. My order took almost an hour and 45 minutes. Really?!? The "chicken" is gross and it's like the unwanted parts of chicken you've never seen before. The Mac salad is a store bought Sam's club flavor, we spent about 50 and the only thing we all liked was the Mac and Cheese.
I'll never go here again and hope others will read this before wasting their hard earned money on a business that offers low quality product and undesirable service.
