I called the other day praying they could send someone same day. Josh made it here in 2 hours and had my A/C problem diagnosed and fixed in less than half an hour. It was about $300 including the service call. I thought that was pretty cheap compared to living in an 80 degree house with my bride.
Great work, showed up in a heartbeat and also went upstairs and cleared the drain line from the attic unit.
I couldn't have asked for better.
Highly recommend.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Allison S.Charleston, SC02Oct 14, 2022
In late fall 2021, a coil on our unit broke and they had to replace it. In July 2022, there was a problem with the same coil, possibly due to installation issues, and it caused extensive damage to our home, leaking through our ceiling. Since they replaced it less than a year prior, it was under warranty and they fixed it for "free"... however, that does not take into account the extensive repairs that we had to pay for. The one nice part of the ordeal was the technician, Dustin, was really great.

My house was 87 degrees on a Wednesday They were quick to respond and show up . They arrived on Thursday.Late Wednesday night i flipped the breaker and cool air had started to blow but was only cooling to about 77. After 3 hours i was told i needed a new coil and i should shut the system off so i didn't blow my condenser. The tech wasn't sure if he had the part . I was told I'd be called Friday am when they found out about the part. No call Friday. I had to call them. I was told they'd let me know first thing Monday. All weekend no AC. My unit is 4yrs old and under warranty i might add. In the meantime i called another company. The other company came diagnosed the problem and stayed in contact with follow ups. On Tuesday Charleston heating and air called to let me know the coil would not be available for over a year and offered me a free quote on a new unit to get me cool again. A new unit ??? Thousands of dollars for a 4 yr old unit to be replaced. I went 4 days with no AC and no contact from the company for no reason at all. I feel like i was being taken advantage of. Thankfully i had asked around and several people told me this didn't seem right which is what led me to calling another company . Very glad i did .

Quoted insanely high prices for "needed" repairs on existing AC unit and estimated price of a new system was the highest we received after having 2 other companies examine the unit. Absolutely don't recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback! We are sorry that you were unhappy with our pricing. We do always make a point to provide upfront pricing prior to performing any repairs or installations to allow the homeowner to make an informed decision. We does not charge an hourly rate, but rather for the job as a whole as it includes parts, labor, and warranty. Due to this pricing structure, we are able to provide our customers with services like same day scheduling, longer warranties, and trucks stocked with well over 500 parts, along with a fully stocked warehouse with parts runners. Again we appreciate your feedback, as this information will be passed along to our leadership team so that we can improve our services as we continue to grow.

I normally don't write reviews but felt I had to. I purchased a condo and began a complete gut and remodel (down to studs). My mechanical inspection failed and I found out that the previous owner had installed a new cooling system the year before, and somehow the permit was never closed out. Because I had gutted the condo, Charleston Heating and Air (who installed original unit) had to come out and reroute some duct work. They were super responsive to my problem and literally took care of me in less than a week. They were professional, timely and extremely fair on additional fees. I cannot recommend them enough. Thanks again guys!!

Let me preface this review with the fact that I have given Charleston Heating and Air close to $10,000 over the past few years. Presumably that qualifies me as a loyal customer that can leave some honest, candid feedback that won't be ignored. I had HVAC issues with my previous unit that Charl H&A had addressed over the years and they recommended I purchase a new unit to no longer have to deal with the service calls, the expenditures, the inconvenience, etc. Knowing my existing unit was becoming a money pit, I agreed and had a new unit installed in August '20 to the tune of $6,477. Everything worked well for about a year and then my nightmare began. Issues since this are as follows:
- 11/19/21: Heat isn't working
-12/6/21: A/C is not cooling the home
-12/11/21: Heat is not working
-2/7/22: Heat stopped working
-3/31/22: A/C is not blowing cold air
A unit just barely over a year old is having continuous issues that apparently Charles H&A lacks the knowledge and expertise to remedy. I actually have tenants live in the home and here was the message on 12/11/21 - "The heat is not working again. Please send the most knowledgeable technician as this is the third issue in a month. This is the 2nd night in Dec. that my small children slept with no heat." So they sent their most knowledgeable tech, a Supervisor, fixed the issue, and lo and behold, less than 2 months later the heat stopped working again and now most recently the air doesn't work. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this could even happen. They convinced me to buy a new unit, I pay $6,400 and this is what happens. Side note, once they sell you a unit, the Director of Sales will no longer respond to any questions you may have. Additionally, I purchased the annual maintenance service for $285 where supposedly they do a system cleaning, tune-up, filter change and preventative maintenance. What a waste of money that is. The more they go out to the unit, the more issues it has. I should have just kept the old one at this point. Also, with the maintenance service I am supposed to get a discounted service fee, not the case on 11/20. Considering the situation, I feel either the technicians are incompetent and unqualified or they sell inferior products. Either way, your wallet will suffer and so will you and your family. I would not recommend them especially if you have small kids. Funny thing is, they have done so much service on my unit, I am using them for this upcoming repair because at this, I'll just keep sending them more and more money as they are very good at taking it. Really astonishing how they don't stand by their work or their products. I would love to see a response from Charleston H&A as I have some questions. Is it normal for a new unit to have issue after issue after issue? Is there anything you can do to remedy this other than sending Supervisors and technicians who are unable to fix the problems? Are you going to keep billing me for all these issues or does your reputation mean anything to you? Please let me know your thoughts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My experience with Charleston Heating and Air was initially very good. I used this company for a hand full of minor service repairs and general maintenance for the span of about 2 years. I recommended CH&A to two of my neighbors, one of which is an elderly woman who needed her drainage tube flushed on her unit. This is a very simple job, and takes very little time to complete. They charged her an exorbitant amount of money for a simple 20 minute job. At this point, I was no longer willing to use them as my HVAC repair service.
Today, our compressor was not working properly. Our service repairman (of a different company) came out to look at the unit, and found that the capacitor and the hard start, both installed by CH&A, was wired completely improperly, causing the compressor to be constantly powered, adding undue load on the unit, including not allowing the compressor to cool and lubricate efficiently. The compressor is a major part to the HVAC unit, and costly to replace.
CH&A would not take responsibility for their technician's improper work. I certainly was not expecting 100% compensation for this part, but certainly expected CH&A to take responsibility for a completely improperly installed piece(s) of equipment.
I would honestly stay away from this company. If I was unable to do my job in the fashion that the CH&A technician was unable to do his, I would certainly be unemployed. In addition, a company that is unwilling to take responsibility for their very sub par work, is not a company that should be taking your hard earned money.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We're sorry to hear of your disappointment. We pride ourselves in taking care of our customers and guaranteeing our work. If we make a mistake we obviously want to make it right, but in doing so we must be given the opportunity to check our work. Unfortunately in your situation we weren't given this opportunity. There is no way to tell if we made a mistake or if the fault is getting passed to us from this other company. We really do want to help you so please give us a call at 843-216-9966 if you'd like to discuss further.

Charleston Heating and Air has the WORST customer service I have experienced. I have spent thousands of dollars with them over the last two years installing multiple systems in two condos. However, they are not fulfilling their maintenance contract for either condo. The customer service manager will not answer my questions, instead she simply repeats her script over and over. In addition, she is insisting it is MY fault that they have not executed the preventative maintenance I have prepaid to have done.
I will not be giving them any more of my money and I strongly suggest you don't either.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ivette D.Tampa, FL022Jul 19, 2018
Charleston Air Care did a wonderful job with the installation of my new AC unit from beginning to end! Michael was very patient with me as I asked him a million questions and he really listened to my requests to help me with the best solution that fit my needs and budget. I also appreciated that Michael waited outside at least 20 minutes for my home warranty technician to leave, you have a wonderful employee! Michael even gave me an earlier install date than expected! I wasn't at home for the set up, but I could only tell the installers were here because I had AC, no mess was left! I called back to the office a few days later for an additional invoice since I lost my original, and I was emailed the receipt on the spot! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE USE CHARLESTON AIR CARE BECAUSE YOU GET MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR!!! My coworker paid $1000 more than me for a smaller unit, should have used Charleston Air Care!
Sincerely,
Ivette Davis
