First, let me say that I've used tutors for both my children for college test prep. Â I used another, more expensive service, for my oldest child. Â That test prep service was great. Â They provided excellent service and targeted the areas that my child needed improvement. Â They oversaw and took the lead on how to study, giving her test taking strategies, how often she needed sessions, when to take a practice test. Â Basically, I didn't need to think about anything because they took care of it. Â Now my second child is ready for college test prep. Â I was initially going to use the same test prep company that I previously used for my oldest child, however they raised their prices $5 an hour so I decided to look into other services. Â After speaking with Chariot Learning, I thought they would provide the same services that I received from the other company. Â I was wrong. Â I suppose in this case, you get what you pay for! Â I had to ask them to do practice tests to see areas of improvement and areas that still need attention. Â After months of tutoring, they still had not gone over the Science section of the ACT, they did not go over how to approach the test or give her test taking strategies. Â I had to ask them to do all of this. Â There was no plan or targeting the areas where my child could still improve. Â Twice the tutor was a no show. Â A friend of mine here in Pittsford told me that her son had to correct his math tutor. Â Eventually, I had enough and went back to the more expensive college test prep service and it's been great! Â No problems. Â I don't need to think about anything because they are taking the lead on everything. Â My child's scores have soared. Â One less thing for me to think about - so I'm thrilled. Â I realize that test prep is expensive and the company we are currently using worth every dollar. Â Something is better than nothing, so Chariot Learning can't hurt and by default (just because you are studying) your scores should increase at least a little. Â I just wonder if you would be better off buying a book and studying on your own instead of Chariot Learning.

If I could give them a zero rating I would. Where to start? First, I spent SO MUCH money here in having them tutor my daughter not once but twice for the SAT. (Fool me once didn't take I guess.) She scored the same the first time as her practice test 3 months before beginning the "so called" private tutoring. They "tried" to explain the low score by my daughter's new found test anxiety. Of course I bought it even as she said the tutors were little to not useful at all. The second time? She went up 20 points -- I guess it's OVER a $100 a point to improve with Chariot. NOT worth it -- found another private tutor and spent $350 and she went up -- wait for it -- 280 points! She said Chariot didn't teach test techniques like the new tutor at all! Oh, and they also referred me to a private college counselor in Brighton. That referral was also worthless. The woman never even worked for a counseling dept, a college or financial aid office. Of course, I then found someone else on my own (also in Brighton but had been in business for over 20 years) who helped us get my daughter into her dream college! Please don't use these folks. My son had a wonderful experience with Chariot Learning. We were impressed by the skill, patience and professionalism of the tutor who helped my son's test score improve even more than we expected. The tutor helped inspire my son to work hard and stay focused. The tutoring sessions were structured and effective. My son even said he had fun while being tutored. We tried other companies previously and regret the money we spent before finding Chariot.
