Super delicious local Mexican food spot that is close to SDSU.

I always get the shrimp quesadilla. It's so flavorful and the shrimp- wow.

The portions here are always really big especially the burritos, which sometimes can double as multiple meals or fill up two people. I believe the largest burrito they have it the California Surf & Turf.

The service is super fast, I always receive my food in 10 minutes or less.

It seems that not many people eat in, most do take out.

I stopped by Chuyz Taco Shop for lunch today and was left thoroughly disappointed. Despite the promising reviews, I found the food to be underwhelming and the service to be subpar.

Firstly, the menu was limited and lacked variety. I was hoping for a wider range of options, but instead found myself struggling to find something I was interested in. When I finally did decide on something, the food took forever to arrive at my table. I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for my order to be prepared.

Once my food finally arrived, I was further disappointed by the quality. The tacos were bland and lacked any real flavor, and the meat was dry and overcooked. I was also disappointed by the portions, which were smaller than expected given the prices.

To make matters worse, the staff was unhelpful and seemed disinterested in providing quality service. When I mentioned my concerns to the server, they simply brushed me off and made no effort to address my issues.

Overall, I would not recommend Chuyz Taco Shop. The limited menu, slow service, poor food quality, and unhelpful staff all contribute to a disappointing dining experience.

Well, I don't usually give small Mex taco shops or faster - food places five stars but Chuyz really deserves it.  Today I got a Chuyz burrito with carne instead of carnitas and it was really fantastic. [I could only eat about 50% of it , it's so huge]   There was an incredibly good flavor and just the right amount of 'marinade' that they cook the meat in that really made it stand out.

Like most every other review, Chuyz also has excellent, nice and prompt customer service. I mean the gal at the register was super nice and on it!

The meat / steak itself was cooked to perfection- not tough at all and there was no fat or grizzle. The cheese stuffed chiles instead could have been cooked longer so they had a snap instead of a soft bite to them. That would be my only alternate comment here. That and I so wish they offered that creamy green chile salsa that so many places have.

I thought the burrito price was the going rate at just over ten bucks for what you get; which is one huge two-meal sized wrap! But, correct me if I am wrong but I think their 1/2 pint of beans are $4.50/ea.   : 0 ...what?

Did I read that right?! Chuyz need to lower that right there!

My friend said she's been curious about this place for a while so we decided to try it out  for lunch . We ate our lunch at the cute restaurant. The service was great . The young lady that took our order is very sweet .

The carne asada burrito that my friend had was gigantic. She got it with side of rice and beans and a soda comes with it when you order the combination plate . She said it was good .

I had the adobado torta . It was tasty and I really like their salsa.

We snatched up our daughter from the SDSU campus to take her for a quick lunch.   We found Chuyz Taco Shop as it was nearby and rated very well.  Plenty of irking in the lot and we walked in to find a pretty standard looking taqueria.   We ordered from the front from a very nice young woman, got the key to the bathroom from her and started to load up on salsas for our meal.

The Surf and Turf Cali Burrito (minus fries) was AS LONG AS MY FOREARM (no exaggeration required).   When I finished eating, it was still a larger than normal Super Burrito.   They should rename this behemoth the weekend burrito as I ate in it the entire weekend!  The taste was quite good with the chipotle sauce (tarter sauce is the other option).   I was most surprised at how fresh the shrimp tasted...no fishiness here!

My daughter got chilaquiles with green sauce and I found it quite spicy!   I think the chips got a little soggy so I'd suggest getting batch of chips to consume to get that crunch.

Carne Asada taco plate was saved by the amazing rice and beans...tasted like it's made in house!   The carne Asada was average so we'd recommend a different meat for the tacos.

The super carne Asada burrito was mediocre but large (not gargantuan).   Once again we'd recommend a different meat.

Chuyz is definitely on the map for us as I'd order that Surf and Turf again without hesitation as well as the chilaquiles with chips on the side.   I recommend you come down here and see if YOU can eat this burrito in one sitting...I don't think many can.

Background - I am flying home today from my business trip.  I love my Diners, Drive-In and Dives TV show and had this one picked out for lunch today.

Atmosphere - Nothing special here, located in a strip mall.  Feels as if they have two spots with in the mall base on how the area is divided.  A fast food setup, place your order order with the cashier and find your seat.  Most of the tables sit four people.  

Food - I had to try what Guy had on Triple D.  I love burritos, and I got my fill of them this week.  Day 5 on my business trip and my third burrito.  I ordered the Chile Relleno Burrito without meat.  Each burrito got better as the week went.  Today's burrito was unique and amazing.  I have never had a Chile Relleno Burrito and it was full of zing.  Then heat came the salsa bar which had four choices.

Service - I was the only one when I arrived.  The place filled up quickly while I was eating.  The cashier was friendly.  The kitchen was fast.  I was in and out and lot faster than expected.

Future - I would back just for that burrito.  I would like to try the other salsa's too,  I only had the verde.

Our jaw dropped when our food came out. We ordered the Pollo Asado fries and this is what was delivered to our table. A beautiful mound of fries. At first I wondered why they asked if we wanted a half or full order and now I understand why! Not only can a full order be shared with 4 people, but you will probably even have leftovers. The fries are always crispy, and the chicken is so flavorful. Even when they are busy, the food will be ready in at least 10 minutes which I appreciate. I'm excited to try other items on their menu because this was so good!

I saw a lot of recommendations for the carne asada fries here, plus Guy Fieri featured this taco shop on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, so I was excited to check this place out.

Spacious interior with lots of seating. Customer service is incredibly friendly! They had a lot of phone orders, but I ordered in store and it didn't take long.

I got the carne asada fries and they were a huge serving. I would say about 4 people can share a box of carne asada fries from here. Food came out quick but the box wasn't even warm when I got it. Meat was dry and needed more seasoning. Fries were very oily. Overall disappointed and there are better carne asada fries elsewhere. I recommend trying something else on the menu!

Food was great.   The burritos were dripping halfway through like they're supposed to.   The flavors were spot on and not only that, the portions are huge.   I wasn't expecting it to be THAT GOOD, because of how big the portions are, but then I remembered "this is how burritos used to be".  

Staff is super nice and did mention how big the carne asada fries are and we still went with the large only to take the rest back home.  

P.S.  Found out Guy Fierri (spelling) stopped by here for his show DDD for tacos after I already was seated and ordered fries and burritos.

Saw this place was visited by Guy Fieri!  I love Mexican food and love spicy hot!  The dish that was cooked on his show was A La Diabla Shrimp. So I went w my daughter and ordered
A La Diabla shrimp. My daughter ordered Carne Asada Plate. Soooo the A La Diabla was hot!  But did have decent sweetness and flavor. Eating hot with no flavor is useless. This had some decent flavor w a touch of sweetness. Guys producer was eating A La Diabla on the show and was sweating his butt off. Ha ha dude claimed to have a hot spicy tolerance ha ha. Its hot but not extreme!
My daughters carne asada was better. Simple and delicious!  Not covered in sauce. Tasted like simple citrus and salt/pepper!  The beans and rice were above average also. We will be back to try the Chuys special burrito which has a chile relleno inside!  Guy claimed he had never seen a chile relleno in a burrito!  Guy come on man!!! Every taco shop has a chile relleno burrito!  Next visit I will check it out!!
FYI the prices here are very good compared to others and portions are above average!
