Cedar Lake is a public golf club in Loganville, GA. The course wraps around many acres of old historic farm land, so no golfer should ever be surprised if they see a cow.
I have many fond memories of playing on this particular course. There were so many joyous occasions I can remember when I would use vulgar language with my golf clubs on this course, threatening all of them with promises of a swim in the lake if they would not help me play better. Ah, seems just like yesterday.
The course does indeed have a few difficult obstacles to overcome. A majority of the obstacles are either a large strip of bedrock or an intimidating body of water like a pond or lake.
The guys who operate and own Cedar Lake are great. Their club house is nothing special, but you can be sure they will be selling a couple of used balls for 25 cents a piece along with a dollar hot-dog to help you get your game started off right.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Ken K.Jacksonville, FL43506110May 28, 2015
First - to clarify - this is a 4 star review - which does NOT mean this is a Golf Digest 4 star course....and you know what? That's OK.....First - if you're coming from in or around the perimeter - it's OUT there - but it was a nice drive....
This course is a "slump-buster" - I had been having trouble breaking 100, shot a 45-51 here - back much harder than front
Clubhouse -4 stars- nice, friendly people in a comfortable environment - no frills, newer carts
Course - 4 Stars - short, clearly marked (Blue, White, Red sticks 200,150,100 yds) - very little water, very few trees, if you didn't know any better, you would have thought this course was in Wisconsin or Iowa, not your typical Georgia course.
Greens - 1 Star - if there is one complaint on the course, it was the greens - they were rough, lumpy, dead spots, hole appeared to be crowned....poke your ball toward the hole and hope for the best
Price - 5 Stars - under $40 retail, can get a deal under $25 - can't beat that....
In closing - it is what it is.....is it comparable to an $80 course....no, but is it a nice atmosphere to swing a club at a reasonable price and to play under a 4.5 hour round? Yes!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thomas B.Alpharetta, GA22982Jul 14, 2010
Good course if you're willing to make the drive. Located all the way out in Loganville, this course can be very challenging and a lot of fun. $18 for 9 holes or $36 for 18 and the cart is included (weekdays).
This course is not very crowded which is great because you can really take your time to improve your game. Most players just go out for the front nine which leaves the back nine even less crowded.
Typically the greens are fast but yesterday the greens were not in the best condition. It seems that they might be reseeding because the greens had just recently been airraded and heavily watered. Other than that everything was great.
This is one of my favorite courses to play and I will make my way out there again soon.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Keith F.Atlanta, GA5315745May 21, 2012
Golf.now people beware. You only get what you pay for.
They are listed there and thats how they fill the course each weekend.
The low cost round, about 28 bucks was what got us and others on the course, but the course needs some (Golf) lessons on how to manage the extra hordes of people that they've enticed.
First Lesson - fix your signs and website maps.
Make sure you have the latest version of Garmen or Magellan software on your GPS because the map on the course's website is incorrect and will take you to a dead end.
The proshop attendant chuckled that some folks have tried to ford the dry creek bed that their map (and their brown street sign) points you to.
They apparently were late for their tee time and decided the shortest distance must be through the "Road Closed" sign. You won't make it without a four-wheel drive.
Second Lesson- If you think you want to find a course in the middle of nowhere and you might have a nice and easy round with few people around - forget it, this is not the place. The entire population of the county was there.
We had to wait for a cart - because there wasn't enough to go around. But we found one on our own from a couple that had just tried to play nine holes and ended up so frustrated with the holes being backed-up they ended the day early, even after skipping holes.
Beleive me I've been there, but I was more patient this day because the driver and putter was working. Thank you Golf.now.
Third Lesson - We got in the cart - got to the first tee where there was no Starter.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem, most people can pair up (or foresome up), but apparently these people, lots of them beginners, didn't know how. And didn't or wouldn't.
So now you have (faster) twosomes stacking up on the holes behind foresomes (also beginners).
Lesson Four - No Ranger - or anyone riding the range, to move the stragglers.
So there was no instruction on the ettiquite invloved with letting faster players pass.
Lesson Five - No ball washers
Lesson Six - No Divot repair sand (usually on the cart)
Lesson Seven - No beverage cart. There was a fully stocked snack bar, but no pretty girls in carts distracting you from the backed-up course.
Lesson Eight - Spongey Greens. It was almost like you were standing on the moon and you could bounce from one step to another.
Lesson Nine - Dry tee boxes. So dry that you couldn't get a tee in the ground (mostly on the ladies tees).
Lesson Ten - Did I say no signs yet? Its not always a requirement but if you can't see the flag from where you tee off or you have a blind dogleg you better have signage for the hole or an accurate distance marker to the start of the hazard.
The course was generally in good shape, The back nine is logically nicer, more challenging and narrower. Distance posts (blue, white, red) were very helpful, but the Golf Logix distance finder was inacurate.
I think I would go back if they corrected at least five of the ten problems we encountered starting with number 3.
If anyone has anything to add or wants to dispute my findings, please let me know.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - C Hris D.Snellville, GA253Apr 11, 2014
