About the Business
At Catkin Cafe, we're passionate about good food in great company. We serve breakfast and lunch all day, using the highest-quality ingredients to make delicious and unique dishes. What used to be a strawberry barreling plant in the 1930's is now our beautiful cafe -- the moment you walk in, you'll feel cozy, comfortable, and even a bit nostalgic. With a menu that ranges in savory and sweet recipes, we've got something that everyone is sure to enjoy. We're proud to be a staple restaurant in Olga, and we're honored to keep making history along the way!

Oh, that was so good!
Various dishes and everything is so great and healthy (no burgers or fries). We took Borscht and Quiche - both were really good. I would just add beef to the Borscht.
But otherwise - nice place to stop during visiting east side of the island.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff H.Kirkland, WA23831Aug 18, 2021
Ok, this is my first one star review due to value and wait time. First off, the staff were nice...no knocks on them. I heard that this may be under newer ownership.
We were their first customers at 10:00am. We drove here straight from the ferry dock (passing by wonderful restaurants in Eastsound) simply because the roasted red potatoes from a previous poster looked amazing. They didn't have the roasted red potatoes on the menu when we arrived...
We opted for the egg sandwich with bacon.
We received our food around 10:30am, 30 minutes after ordering 2 simple sandwiches. The sandwich was lukewarm and tasted okay...however far from $40 okay.
Standard egg sandwich: $12
2 Slices of bacon: $4
Ended up spending ~$40 after tax and tip for TWO simple egg sandwiches.
I'd have been more satisfied by spending 8x less at McDonald's.
4 knocks for: lack of value, quality, and excessive wait time. Staff was friendly and receives my only star left to give.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 6, 2021
Some friends and I ate here over the weekend. I had the Mac and cheese with spinach and the potato salad and a chocolate chip cookie. Everyone's food needed salt but otherwise it tasted great! We were able to get a salt and pepper shaker from inside. The Mac and cheese was nice and crispy on top and I loved the idea of spinach in it, I think I'll do that at home. The employees were super nice and sat up an extra table for us outside on the lawn. The ginger beer is delicious too! Definitely recommend eating here.

We had booked an Airbnb nearby for a night. Catkin Cafe was the closest place to us for breakfast. The house/structure it's in is super cute! From the previous reviews and talking to the staff, the place was rebuilt after a fire.
We were the first customers in that day. All of us loved the space, the food, and the staff!
We ordered:
- breakfast sandwich
- potatoes and the cornmeal bread
- coffee
- cinnamon roll
Everything was delicious! No complaints! And it was reasonably priced. Afterwards we shopped around at the art store next door. I would definitely come back here again!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Michelle N.Gotha, FL0101663Jul 14, 2019
We were visiting friends on San Juan Island and we took their boat over to Olga and walked up to the restaurant. We were a large group so we walked around the gallery while we waited for lunch.
Everything on the menu is made from scratch and provided locally. It was fresh and flavorful and very filling. Breakfast was served all day so we had a mix of that and lunch items. I loved that the kitchen was open and you could watch the work.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I came here for the chowder, left with hot chocolate with fresh cream and a bag full of bakery items which were absolutely fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed!
Friendly experience with the woman who braved the cold to take our order (the table is set up outside for transactions during the pandemic).
She was super helpful explaining the bakery items and even offered to modify anything we ordered if we needed since everything is made in house.
It is very clear that pride is taken in the food and the ingredients are fresh and high quality!
Thank you, we look forward to coming again next time we are on island!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mia C.Bellingham, WA261130116Sep 10, 2017
Arrived early on a rainy Saturday morning and was a little disappointed at first, since we were looking forward to the old place that used to occupy this space.
That disappointment gave way to delight with the menu. We had the breakfast sandwich with the bacon, the steamed clams (yes for breakfast, hush) and the scrambled eggs with spinach.
Everything was just delightful. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and not at all dried out, a common curse of that particular dish.
I hear the clams were delicious, but I did not have the opportunity to try them, as they were gone before I even noticed.
My sandwich was delicious with heirloom tomato. The English muffin could have done with a tiny bit less toasting and the potatoes were a bit overdone but delicious.
Will be back on our next visit to the island!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Savannah R.Vancouver, WA5213157May 26, 2019
This peaceful cafe is a must-try if you're visiting Orcas. I loved the open kitchen where you could see everyone working, so many smiling faces that are lovingly preparing your food! I only ordered a pot of tea (a bargain at 3.75) so I can't vouch for their food, but the plates I did get to see served made me wish I had ordered more than just a drink.
The cafe itself is fairly small, so keep this experience intimate and enjoy a walk around the art gallery that's joined with Catkin.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I love this place. Their dutch baby pancake is flocking amazing (we only got one to share, and I immediately wished I got my own), the scramble is great, and the coffee is delicious and abundant. The people that work there are friendly and kind. I can't wait to be back!!
PS I *know* the word "Catkin" does not mean "kitty!!", but I can't help thinking it does.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Service was delightful and food was amazing! Had the breakfast sandwich which had so many layers of flavor. My tummy was so happy and satisfied. If you go make sure you order one of their cute mimosas! Compared to other brunch places nearby this one is the best!!!
