Adorable yet Affordable" 1865 Victorian carriage house on one of Nantucket's quietest in-town country lanes, carefully restored with all Private Baths. Old Nantucket surrounds you - cobblestone streets, glorious gardens, stately mansions of whaling masters, and museums steeped in the history of this unique "far away" isle. Minutes from the harbor. I had a wonderful three day stay here, during off season. It was organized by the Nantucket Arts Council, meaning, I am not sure what the rates are. The place is beautiful, peaceful, clean, quiet. The rooms are individually decorated, there are no TVs, however wi fi internet is strong and reliable.

The location is absolutely perfect, and everything one might need in town is less than 5 minutes away on foot.

I highly recommend staying here. The fact that my stay was off season made it even better, as it allowed for truly restful quiet time with NPR and nature sounds.

I've had two wonderful stays at the Carriage House, the most recent over Labor Day 2018. Haziel and Tomomi are very warm and friendly, and more than willing to help you with any questions you have about the island - restaurants, sightseeing, transportation, and more. The location couldn't be better - a block from the head of Main Street, near Murray's, yet off on a secluded and quiet side street. The bedroom was comfortable and cozy - bonus that the view from my window was of the gold dome of the Unitarian Church.

As others have said, this is a great value when compared to other B&B's in the area, which are much more expensive. At Carriage, I stayed in a queen room with a private bath for approximately $50-$75 less than what a single bed with shared bath would have cost me elsewhere.

One very small additional convenience that would be nice would be air conditioning, as it can get pretty hot and humid at times on the island. The lack of A/C is actually common on the island however, and I slept comfortably with the ceiling fan.

We had a wonderful but too brief of a stay at the Carriage House. We came into this experience with uncertainty as this was our first B&B experience. We are so glad to have found this hidden gem.

I believe this is one of the best values on the island for location, price and amenities. We had no need for a car or taxis as it was located right in the heart of everything. Our strolls downtown took less than five minutes, and only a few additional minutes to and from the ferry. The location is perfect for a few nights stay without the need to continuous transportation.

Price wise, this has to be one of the best deals in Nantucket. We found the Carriage House to be about 50-65% cheaper than comparable B&Bs in the area.

Most important for us was quality of the rooms and sense of safety. The Carriage House met and exceeded our expectations on both. We both just loved the decor and charm of this place immediately as we entered. It felt almost as if we had been transported back to the bygone days of sea captains and whalers.

As for the room itself, we again loved the nostalgic decor of it. Everything was in place, clean and comfortable as we entered. As others reviewers mentioned, room and bathroom were indeed on the small side, but we did not find it an issue in the least. I think visitors need to manage their expectations as these are converted historic homes built centuries ago and not the expansive cookie-cutter Marriott hotels we have come accustom to...come with the expectations of experiencing the past and escaping the present.

I think the element that ties everything together and helps make this place unique and gives it individuality is the owner himself. Mr Jackson was a wonderful person who takes pride in this establishment and knows the island as well as anyone. Upon checking in he spent a good 30-minutes providing us with a history of the house, the island and also wonderful activity recommendations. He is truly a Nantucket local and definitely a colorful character, in the nicest of ways.

We love this place and you will too!!

A gorgeously restored Victorian carriage house, this B&B is without question one of the nicest places we have stayed on the island. The location is on a very quiet little side street that feels isolated even in the midst of the summer chaos. The great part is that the Carriage House is still only a short walk to the center of Nantucket.

The rooms aren't large but extremely nice and furnished in period style. They serve a pleasant breakfast in the morning and we had some of the best blueberry muffins ever. Perhaps the nicest part of our stay was getting to met the proprietors Haziel and his wife Tomomi. They were incredibly gracious and friendly and not only willing to take the time to give us directions to anything we wanted but also seemed to enjoy discussing environmental issues on the island or aspects of Nantucket history, politics, or just about anything else.

This is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay but it was the hospitality of Haziel and Tomomi that made it very special.

Highly recommend! Beautiful bed and breakfast! Great location, only a couple blocks from the middle of downtown, so it is very walkable. The staff and owner were very welcoming and always available to recommend places to eat and shop. The owner was great to mention unique places to visit on the island. In addition, there was a great continental breakfast each morning in the beautiful outdoor seating area. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed four nights in June 2014.
Pro's - The owner and host is a warm individual with an extensive knowledge of the history of the island and any service available today. Breakfast was an entertaining hour of fruit, freshly baked goodies and fantastic conversation with our host and other guests. Our room was tastefully done and, with the fabulous weather we had, each night's sleep was rejuvenating! The location on Ray's Court is only two blocks from Main Street allowing guests to walk to downtown attractions, but it's isolated from the noise of the other island tourists and their vehicles. Since Nantucket is an island with limited resources, our host was extremely sensitive to conservation of water and electricity; a value shared by permanent island residents. Sweets and baked goods are left in the common area for guests who come in and out during the day.
Con's - The bathroom is small and the sink was missing a stopper. The coffee was on the weak side. Breakfast is not served on Sunday morning, but there are great, local restaurants. Credit cards ARE NOT accepted!
Summary - The Carriage House is a great place to visit without a car and it is truly good value for money.
Rating = a strong A with only minor inconveniences keeping it from an A+.

We came to Nantucket for a wedding, and knowing that we weren't looking to spend an arm and a leg on lodging, the bride directed us to the Carriage House. After some confusion and many long phone calls with Haziel (the owner) we reserved a room for 3. The room was perfectly fine. It gave us a place to sleep and shower which was all we needed during the busy wedding weekend. The room was made up nicely each morning. Breakfast is provided at 9:00 except on Sundays which was not communicated ahead of time. It didn't ruin our plans, but it is information that would serve guests nicely if posted on the Inn's website. The owner is quirky to say the least. If you want lots of advice and input, the Carriage House is the place to go. Haziel wants to share his knowledge of the island with guests, but if you're looking to do your own thing a bit more, it might be better to look around.

Nice place to stay. Haziel was great- very attentive and helpful!
I wish we had A/C and that there was a bit more privacy, but overall, a nice place to stay.

What a wonderful stay at the carriage house. We stayed one night and Haziel was very welcoming of his guests. He have us info about restaurant, sights to see, shuttle buses to save money as we all know the island can get out of control pricey. He left cookies out and lemonade when we came in at night. He also offered to take our bags downstairs because I wasn't feeling well. He really was very nice. The room was nice and sunny and very clean. The only thing I would have liked is a tv in the room but it's an island so I won't complain.
