Closed now.
This was THE Place for date nights.
Great food,reasonable prices.
Closed now, but still open in my heart.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 4, 2014Previous reviewthis is the place people went after,,,,,,the football game, movie, anything,,,,
you could take a date here and eat very good for not much,,,on the patio.
or if this was a really special date, in the dining room...
the food was always the same "great".
the only day they close is Monday, and when I was a cross country driver, and would get home and go for lunch only to find them closed, but it's always worth the wait.. - PT B.Trabuco Canyon, CA1340Feb 5, 2021
Anybody know of a Mexican restaurant that serves similar tacos, enchiladas, taquitos to what Carmen's sold?
I don't mind La Tolteca, but the styles are just very different in my opinion
Thanks for adviceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sarina R.West Covina, CA4454May 19, 2020
Truly one of the best Mexican restaurants in SoCal. Special memories as I was growing up, came with family members over the years. Til this day I frequently remind them of this place. Here is where my affinity for spicy salsa roja commenced as a wee toddler. Thank you for serving the community over the years!

So many awesome memories growing up in Southern California. Always look forward to going to Carmen's to enjoy great food and great company. I moved to Seattle in 1973 but still dream of their tacos and enchiladas! Sorry to see them close up!

I have been to this restaurant since I was 5 years old and loved the food ..being in my youth I always ordered bean and cheese burrito along with my twin Tonyia and it was soo delicious and consistent ...my parents loved the plates and we craved the taste of Carmens at few times a week we also loved the house salad dressing which was a sour creme delicacy which we couldn't figure out ...I'm so sad that this restaurant didn't continue the legacy of the great and amazing food to share with new and exciting patrons that would enjoy the pleasure and the taste of CARMENS !
It should be a tradition with families like it was with mine !..Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 26, 2008
My friends always rave about how great this place is.
Of course...I always forget...but....this time we all ate here..
You have to order chips (extra $$).
This place is kinda old...and.. a little dark inside ....
Ordered the special plate (my friends suggested it) and I got a burrito showed up on my plate...
They do charge extra for refills......
I think the original owner..served us first...
My friends really like her and said...she's so nice...
Service was OK?.
Also this place doesn't take charge cards...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Xandriella P.Gilbert, AZ96339Feb 26, 2011
Carmen's is not just a restaurant, it's a family tradition in Azusa. If you were raised in Azusa chances are you eat there and love it. I've been going to Carmen's for as long as I can remember. My mom started eating there when she was a teenager. Now at 38 I take my teenage boy's and when the time comes I'm sure they will take their kids too.
The place hasn't changed, the food hasn't changed, the prices haven't really changed, the owners haven't changed and the food is, well.....Carmen's.
It's like In N Out, you can get a burger on any street corner but it just isn't the same. In Azusa you can get a taco on every other corner but....It's not like Carmen's.
There are plenty of good mexican restaurants in Azusa and So Cal for that matter but there is only one Carmen's. I'm pretty sure I've had everything they offer on the menu and I have NO complaints. Btw, they have the BEST coke's in the entire San Gabriel Valley. There is something about those red plastic cups that make the coke taste like nowhere else.
I'm glad to be a part of the Carmen's tradition and will continue to eat there and love it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mister E.Rancho Cucamonga, CA14222064Jul 5, 2014
I truly hate Carmen's.
Me and a group of 3 came here last week and I absolutely regret going. We were seated for about 5 minutes before even getting our drinks ordered. Took 10 to get the drinks. Took another 10 to take food orders. Took about an hour to finally get food with no refill of drinks or soups and salads brought to us until after our food was brought. Even when we got our soups and salads, the waitress didn't even bring everything.
My food was the combination plate and it truly tasted like it was straight out of a microwave. Everyone was displeased with their meals, but wanted to come in remembrance of past experiences.
Honestly the service was just on par with the food; pure trash. I'd rather eat Taco Bell than eat here again... oh wait, this place closed down! I say good riddance to terrible food, service, and atmosphere.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Little Miss Stoner C.La Jolla, La Jolla, CA06Oct 8, 2017
Home Sweet Home! It saddens my heart that Carmen's is closed. I'm 33 yrs old and been coming here since I was a baby. My father came here, as a child too. Hands down the best Mexican food ever! Thank you Mia for EVERYTHING! She worked so hard, each and every single day.

Oh Carmen's, we hardly knew ye. Closed after 50 years.
I'm so disappointed.
I'll miss the Chili Verde and the regular burritos.
Sigh.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
