Established in 2010. CapitolMac started in 1984, several owners ago, in Richmond, Virginia, coinciding with the introduction of the original Macintosh. The ownership changed several times in the years since then. Today, CapitolMac is a Baltimore City-owned small business that proudly embraces the (obviously disparate) artist and business communities of downtown and urban Baltimore. We are proud to report that we're Baltimore City's true "Apple Store." For residents of the city, we're the closest, most competent destination for Apple hardware, software, and accessories. Plus, we take the time to talk with you and attend to your needs, and we'll move heaven and earth to make sure you're happy.

I called because my early-2015 MacBook Pro trackpad wasn't working, and spoke to Andrew. He's the store manager, and director of business development for the whole company, but he answered my tech support call.
I was only in town for a few days, and Andrew was super helpful in explaining all of the likely explanations for my trackpad dysfunction. I said, "I'm going back to Houston in three days, and it's my work computer. Can you fix it before then?" And he answered my question honestly --Â "You should wait until you get home to Houston," even though it meant he wouldn't get my business this trip. He also told me what the Apple Store would likely do, and that they'd also probably need a while to make the repair (he used to work there).
A nice thing about this business is that whereas Apple geniuses are constrained by a script, people at CapitolMac have more freedom to share information and be forthcoming. I generally enjoy my experiences in the Apple Store, but I think I'll give CapitolMac a try next time I'm in DC or Baltimore with a Mac problem (which seems to be a frequent occurrence).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ceanne W.Towson, MD95132Jan 7, 2018Updated review
I got my laptop "fixed" here a couple years ago and I'm writing a review on it now because every time I look at the screen they never completely fixed, I'm reminded of my horrible experience here.
I brought my laptop in with a large crack in it. The day I brought it in, they said it would be 3-5 business days. After a little over a week, I called to ask when it would be finished (I was a graphic design student and needed my computer daily) and they said they didn't know and would call me back. This happened for three days in a row with me consistently calling and them not telling me when it would be ready & not returning my calls like they said they would.
When I finally got my computer back (I believe it was a few weeks), there was a 4" greenish line and two small spots where the color is distorted. Because the whole thing took so long to get "fixed", I was just glad to finally be able to do my work again and decided to leave the distorted colors since I couldn't afford to go weeks without my computer again. The ugly line and dots still here today, reminding me of how horrible this place is which is what lead me to Yelp today.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 6, 2016Previous reviewMy computer screen had a huge crack in it. I brought it in on a Monday. That day they told me it would be $475 and take 3 to 5 days. Three days later they called me and told me they needed to replace the screen & it would be $475. Yes...I know I need a new screen; that's why I brought it in. Then they said it would take 7 days. I called a week later to check on the status. The told me they'd get back to me that day to let me know. They didn't. Called the next day. Same thing, said they'd let me know, they didn't. Called another day later, same thing, said they'd let me know, they didn't.
I finally got my computer back (I don't remember how long it took in total) and I noticed a 4 inch line & two small spots on the screen where the colors were distorted. Since it took so long to get my computer back & I'm a graphic design student & need to use my computer daily, I decided to just leave it rather than waiting more weeks to get it back again. - Francisco Javier M.Buenos Aires, Argentina34Sep 30, 2019
Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great experience overall. I brought my MacBook Pro for a faulty display and they took care of it honoring the AppleCare coverage. I didn't even need to make an appointment.
There were some comings and goings but it all got sorted out, even with a time constraint considering I was visiting from Argentina.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9941845Apr 6, 2016
Gino is a lifesaver!
I needed the screen on my MacBook Pro Retina to be replaced and Gino was able to order the piece with next-day shipping and had it back to me in about 28 hours working good as new.
If I had gone directly to Apple, it would have saved about $100-$150 but the turnaround was ~10 business days. Definitely worth the cost!
Added bonus: CapitolMac is listed on Apple's Website as an Authorized Repair Shop so if anything happens in the future, it's nice knowing I can take my MacBook to Apple's Genius Bar and they'll treat the repair as if it was their own.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 27, 2017
Ridiculous customer service, anyhow a couple of months ago I dropped a laptop off. I couldn't pay the diagnostic fee because their system was down then, not my fault. They called within a couple of days and gave me the estimate i declined and said I will pick it up. Life happens and I haven't been able to, I get a call and the lady on the other end was plain rude, I mean was she expecting me to say oh I will come right away. Somewhere along the line she forgot customer service and delivery tone along the way. I was going to apologize for not picking it up, but at that point she had lost me. They can keep the computer, I will keep my $50 never to return to this junk of a place.

Glenn is the employee saving this review here from being 1-star.
At the beginning of the year, I was having trouble with my 2012 MacBook Pro (Retina display) randomly powering off. I did a quick search online and saw that CapitolMac was authorized by Apple and it was closer to my home, so I felt safe. I bring it in and speak with Andrew - he seems both condescending and dismissive. His attitude and demeanor was not that of a friendly staffer, yet alone any kind of manager. I'm sure he's knowledgeable about the products (as most of these guys are former Apple employees) but it's clear that they did not bring the high-quality customer service along with them when they left their former job (or if they were fired, who knows?)
They charge me $40 for a check (which I later found out would've been absolutely FREE at Apple), and quote me for a $700 repair. Seeming how much I do love my MacBook Pro, I considered paying it even with the idea of purchasing a new one probably a better option for that price. However after posting a status on my Facebook asking tech friends for advice, they tell me that my computer was eligible for a replacement program at no charge for this issue, however I missed the cutoff date by 2 months :(
When I came in to pick up my computer, I was directed to speak with Glenn about my repair since he was the guy who actually looked at it. I asked Glenn about the replacement program and he told me that although CapitolMac could not honor that, he was 90% sure that if I went to Apple Towson that there was a good chance they would understand and still honor the expired program and that it was worth a shot to try! He was super honest and polite and genuinely seemed like he wanted to help me out, even if it wasn't through using his store. That's awesome customer service!
However, once I got back to the front desk, Andrew was there asking me if I was going to go through with the repair. After I said "no thank you", you could tell his attitude became flustered. He was originally slow with helping me when I first walked in the store, but now quick to give me my laptop back once he realized I wasn't using his business. The entire experience in this store felt like negative energy, with Glenn being the only shining light for me.
Glenn, if you're reading this buddy, ya gotta get outta there! LolHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angel J.San Francisco, CA10698Nov 1, 2016
I brought my Macbook here after some water damage. It would turn on and function until the login screen but nothing further than that. The Apple store opened it up to diagnose it, and quoted me $750 flat to fix everything. But I wanted a second opinion so I decided to bring it Capitol Mac.
I told them that my computer had water damage and they immediately quoted me $650 to fix it before listening any further. They did not even bother to even look into my computer or talk to me, even though there was only one other person in the store. I was extremely disappointed by the lack of care and bad customer service.
I brought it over to another Mac repair store. They opened up my computer, saw that nothing was fried, so they decided to take everything out, clean it, and put it back together. All fixed! Only cost me $30.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Haoqi W.Vienna, VA77107497Nov 20, 2019
Very clean and spacious store that offers wide variety of services. Recently had a Mac pro display problem while I was visiting Cville. I looked it up for Apple repair, and CapitolMac showed up. I brought my Macbook to the store to fix on a Saturday morning. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. Answering all my questions patiently and providing useful information when he did not know the answers to my certain questions. But it seems like there was a short staffing issue since the tech people who can actually help me were not available until the following Wednesday and many services listed on their website were not able to be provided over the weekend either. Didn't get my problem fixed, but good customer experience.

I purchased my late 2012 iMac 27" from CapitolMac in Richmond a year ago and it worked fine until this August. I took it into the CapitolMac store here in Baltimore on Sept 10 and they diagnosed a problem with the hard drive (my data is all locked up on a damaged HD and they were going to charge me $800 to try to recover it). I supplied a replacement SDD HD and they were going to put it in the iMac overnight, as soon as a housing arrived on Sept 13.
Over the weekend, the screen was dropped on the floor or damaged in some other way: they blamed the cleaning help, but I can't imagine leaving a screen lying around like that. Anyway, they rightly offered to replace the monitor with a brand new one.
In the end, Capital Mac came through by offering a newer version of my computer with some additional payment on my part. I am pleased with the service and grateful to have them alive and flourishing in the community.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Juleesa J.Osage Beach, MO1242Oct 6, 2016
