You have to appreciate the nostalgia a brick-and-mortar music store generates; although, these days, it's more like overpriced used DVDs and games. The staff at The Exchange is friendly enough but that's not what you come here for. Though I love the selection of movies they have, I'm incredibly frugal, and I refuse to pay more than five dollars for something I can download for free. Also, they have an amazing selection of classic Nintendo games stashed in the back; however, they seldom work once you get them home.

Don't return anything after 6:30 pm or you pay a restock fee from your return select people might not charge you for it

Came in here with my family and was extremely disappointed with the experience. While we were attempting to peacefully browse their selection, we were witness to boorish behavior by the manager/owner(?).
He was berating his employee over a "mismarked" $5 used video game, claiming he tainted the whole computer by entering the wrong number (yeah, buddy, that's not how that works) raising his voice louder and louder for the whole store to hear. He went on abusing his employee for a good fifteen minutes, ranting about procedure and pointing his fingers and hands aggressively in his face - over a $5 video game. He was in such a huff that when another customer entered the store and he barked a rude "what are you looking for" before returning to his tirade.
I was looking to support a smaller local chain in the area but am absolutely appalled by how this owner treats his employees. If he felt comfortable with this type of behavior in front of customers, I can't imagine how he treats them when no one is witness.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Njon S.San Francisco, CA98329664Mar 28, 2006First to Review
Shatangi's first real job. Stayed a few weeks. my big bro worked there for Rich for a few years' summers. It was the Record Exchange back then. I remember the tiny case of the "new' cd's that made up 2% of the inventory. All Vinyl back then.

I like this place. The people who work in here are like old school music store music lovers. I like this place because there aren't many music stores around anymore, it's nice to just see that in the area. I was born in the 80's I miss it. They are music lovers I can tell. I love the vibe. They have a great collection of vinyl old and new. They have a really good section of $1 CD's. They have figures (I refuse to call them action figures), Video games, consoles, and some other miscellaneous stuff, like DVD players that are used.
They're cool, friendly, it's clean, and the prices are good.
I go there just to look around when on Coventry I always find something.

Worst franchise in town. I have never bought a thing here after browsing many times. Maybe it's because Record Rev up the street pretty much makes it obsolete, or because the only stuff they sell here are beat up old rap cds. There is little to no vinyl. Every other Exchange has some to tons of vinyl at affordable prices. You would think one of the oldest ones located in dusty Coventry would try to be more record store cool. The clientele are always rude and bump into other shoppers like it's a mosh pit. Plus it's poorly lit, sterile and downright depressing. If you ever "find" an xbox in an alleyway, you could probably trade it in here for beer money.

This store has awesome merchandise and a friendly, helpful staff. I couldn't find what I was looking for and they were happy to find it for me. They even had a rare game sent in from another store and called me when it came in!

I went in there to trade two games of mine, while looking at the case a gentleman who I didn't know was the owner at the time asked i leave my game at the counter, I told him I was fine and I was just glancing at the locked case to see anything worth trading in, he insisted I leave my game again, getting frustrated a huffing deeply in anger, his voice raised and attitude went from 0-100 saying " products weren't allowed on the floor" I told him these weren't "products", rather they were my games I walked in here with, he threatened to call the Police for this little reason, " told him ." He'd love to do that wouldn't he" I eventually left. With my Games and exchanged them at Gamesstop , who were appreciative of my business.
Between this back and forth with this owner , he took his coat off preparing for a tussle with me, I asked if he treated all his customers like this with hostility and aggression, he said yes, when they don't follow rules. I surmised that he was racist due to his unprofessionalism and unwarranted Hostility. No more Exchange for me, and I avoided the Exchange in Parma Heights which is minutes away from me because of their poor customer service, only to be met by service a lot worse.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff D.Charlotte, NC525021Mar 14, 2013
Nice selection of CD's, DVD's, and small electronic games/gadgets. They gave me a fair trade for my DVD's.
