I'm torn on my rating. I would give a three star rating because they forgot one of my items and do not try to call the number on Yelp because they don't have a phone. But the girl that helped me was so nice and the food was good. So I guess it's fair to give Bun Bun Bao 4 stars.

Bun Bun Bao to me is not that authentic Chinese dim sum. Definitely more options available in the area. Because they prepare everything made to order the food comes out fresh and hot. I guess if you don't want to have to deal with a sit down dine in restaurant, BBB is a decent option. As for me I need a good reason to come back and try again.

I finally decided to give this place a try and I am not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. I want to say that this would classify more as sit down fast food as opposed to an actual sit down place. It wasn't terrible but it was alright!

Food: I tried quite a few things (Pork/Shrimp Siu Mai, Potato Croquette, Shrimp Har Gow, Snow Crab Shrimp Siu Mai, and the Curry Chicken Bao) and to be honest, I didn't really like any of it. :( The flavor was just off. I found the Golden pork/shrimp siu Mai to be really hard and it had a really odd texture inside. The Shrimp Har Gow was decent but still, not my favorite. I think my mistake was coming here really hungry when in reality this is more of a "quick snack" place more than anything. I was not able to try the drinks, but if I ever return, it would be for them only. I saw a few people taking drink orders to go and they all looks super good. They also seemed to have a good selection of drinks and the Mango Slush looked really nice.

Service: It was alright. We came on a night where the place was empty and the poor employee looked tired and really bored. The food did take a while to come out, but I'm assuming it's because it is all made to order, which I really don't mind. It gave off the vibe of restaurant wait time but fast food quality.

Location: It's located in a little plaza with plenty of parking. If you do decide to come on a weekend night though, parking may be a little tricky because this plaza does get pretty busy and there aren't many open spots.

Overall, like I said, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best. I don't see myself returning for the food but definitely will be coming back to try some drinks! If you want a little snack and want to try something new out, go for it and give this place a try. If you are actually hungry and want to have a full meal, this is not the place for you!

I really wanted to like this place because my husband and I love dimsum. When we first got there, you have to order on the screen. Poor older lady in front of us took a long time because she wasn't familiar. We tried to help her, but there seemed to be a glitch and wouldn't let her check out. So she just left.
Right when she left, someone from the kitchen came over. I told him, "it scared her away," as I was pointing at the screen.
We placed our order for 2 Teriyaki Chicken Baos and Ā Chicken Bun Bao. The Teriyaki ones were ok. Did not have as much meat, and I don't know if it was because it was the evening, but the bao was borderline chewy. The Chicken Bun Bao - the chicken patty was so small my husband showed me what was left of his sandwich, which was just the bao and lettuce. It was also very pricey for just that sandwich ($9).

Great spot and the food is Instagram worthy, however, it is also very heavy. Don't go here if you are on a diet. Ā I do like that dim sum is very convenient and you can get it to go without having to sit down at a restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised during my visit to Bun Bun Bao! I'm a person who often craves individual dim sum dishes but not enough to warrant a whole dim sum restaurant visit. Bun Bun Bao is the perfect solution to my dilemma.

My friend and I came to the restaurant on a Monday afternoon, which meant that both the parking lot and the inside of the restaurant were empty. On the inside, you order at the counter on one of the two self-order kiosks. While this process isn't the most personal and friendly, I did appreciate being able to see pictures and descriptions of all the menu items - so I don't mind the trade-off.

There seemed to be only one worker at the time, who was very nice. They informed us that our order would be out in about 15-20 minutes - I'm assuming that the dishes are made-to-order. They came out warm, filling, and yummy!

    This time around, I had:

CHIVES AND SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (3PCS): Larger and more filling than I expected. I had this with their spicy mayo (maybe a weird combination, I know) - but I really did enjoy this. They didn't skimp out on the filling either!

GOLDEN YOLK BAO (3PCS): I was really happy with this. It had a crunchy-golden exterior, soft dough inside, and a warm egg yolk filling. Altogether, it's something I know I'll be back for. I'll probably order this every time I visit.

Bun Bun Bao can bet that I'll be back to try more things off their menu. Looking forward to my next visit!

I was interested to see what this restaurant would offer when I saw it pop up in the plaza, but unfortunately for me this fast dim sum concept didn't measure up.

    = L O C A T I O N =
Bun Bun Bao is in the popular Landmark Square. The interior is pretty blank and uninviting.

    = S E R V I C E =
They have two self-order counters in the front, which I enjoy. You can easily look through the pictures and descriptions on the screen. Other than that, there's very little human interaction.

    = F O O D =
+ GOLDEN CHICKEN BUN BUN BAO ($15.20 combo): I like the idea of having the bao as a bun, but the execution of this was not good. The chicken was oily and didn't pair well the the bao bun, and it was very bland overall. // (1/5)

+ FRIES/EGG ROLL: The fries and egg roll were good, but like in a frozen food kind of way. // (2/5)

+ HONG KONG MILK TEA (slight $ addition to the combo): I did order this at 50% sweet, but my god, it seriously tasted like milky water. // (1/5)

Perhaps I should give the actual dim sum a try, but I was not excited by what my initial tasting had to offer.

Was a little hesitant to try this place at first due to some of the reviews; but I'm glad I did. The workers were very friendly and helpful, and answered all our questions about their menu. We ended up ordering a few things. Shrimp and Crab Sui Mai were really good and freshly made to order. The golden pork bao stood out a lot in a good way. The bun part was nice and crispy, and the inside was nice and soft. They definitely did not skimp out on the filling. We also ordered the creamy chicken rice. The cream sauce was good, bit a bit on the sweeter side for our taste; but not bad at all. I would definitely recommend asking for some of their chili oil for it.

Bun Bun Bao is a great dim sum alternative to the expensive and nearby Lunasia. Ā Does it have an extremely smaller selection? Ā Yes. Ā Is the quality as good? Ā No. Ā But is it way cheaper and quicker? Ā Yes! Ā I think that's what they're going for, so everything it lacks in selection, they make up for in other areas.

We ordered a variety of items from shu mais to several baos. Ā My favorite thing about the food was the crispiness from some of the baos, like the golden pork bao and crispy yolk bao. Ā The crispy texture stands out from the typical baos you get at traditional dim sum restaurants. Ā I enjoyed the crispy yolk bao a lot but thought the golden pork bao meat/bao ratio is a little off. Ā It definitely could've used a little more meat. Ā The pizza bao is huge and worth trying but again, I think I enjoyed the crispy baos better. Ā I would say skip the snow crab shu mai and just get the regular one. Ā I don't think the snow crab really stood out much. Ā Their rice plates are pretty good too, though a little more expensive than the rest of the menu.

Overall, I will be back. Ā Cerritos isn't the SGV, where quality dim sum restaurants are at every corner. Ā Bun Bun Bao provides just enough to satisfy the itch at a reasonable price. Ā The place is clean and staff is friendly also!

I was 3 miles away when I consulted with Yelp on where to eat. This place looked interesting so I went right when they opened. Now I'm incredibly sad that I live about 90 miles away because the food was amazing. I had Hargow, rolled rice noodles, egg yolk bao, and what I thought was shumai but he must have heard me wrong. It's fried and amazing. Will have to see what it is because I want more Ā I also got peach Oolong tea. 100% recommend.
