We stopped here on the way back from Salvation Mountain. We knew we were in the right place when our drinks came out--in glasses nearly twice the size of anywhere else. Jamaica, horchata and limonata--all wonderful. Chips and green salsa were tasty. We ordered the Birria Plate, Combination Plate with chile relleno, and the Carne Asada plate. Corn and flour tortillas are homemade, the refried beans have a great smoky taste, and we all ate our plates clean.
I would dock 1/2 star because there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, but I let the gentleman know as we were leaving.
Overall, we recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Gabriel G.Anaheim, CA013Mar 29, 2024
Spent a long day photographing around the Salton Sea and ended it very hungry. Decided to go try the Buckshot Deli & Diner with some of my peers. I didn't expect much but the quality of the food was top notch. I got the Sopes special with the shredded beef and they were incredible. I judge a lot of Mexican restaurants by how good the rice is and the rice here was phenomenal. The server was really cool, none of us were sure what to get and he recommended everything but then told us about the specials they had available. I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in the area.

First check your bill before handing over your credit card.
Received a $58 bill for 1 patty melt and 1 lemonade. Friend just gave his credit card and was charged $180 for what ended up being $31.
Potato salad not homemade. So disappointed.
Real Mexican food? Leave it at that.
Love supporting small businesses but this one not worth it.
Again watch your check before paying.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 5, 2021
My family and I stopped by here for lunch after visiting Salvation Mountain. The owner is full of jokes. He likes to ask people coming in if they have a reservation and if not he can help you make one for $50. He also gave my 9 year old son a bill for $180 for our lunch and asked if he was going to pay. When he said no, he game me the actual bill (closer to $55).
They give you flour tortilla chips and really good red and green salsa to munch on while you wait for your food. I liked the flavor of the green salsa more - it had a nice smoked flavor. Food takes a while but we all enjoyed what we got. My family ordered the cheeseburger, chicken torta, beef burrito, beef enchilada, and chicken enchilada. We also got the horchata and Jamaica agua Fresca. Soooo refreshing on such a hot day! I had a side salad as well and the iceberg lettuce and cucumbers were fresh and crisp.
When we left I asked if he had takeaway cups so we could take the rest of our drinks to go and the owner was so kind, he gave us these humongous cups (think Super Big Gulp size) and refilled them to the brim with more agua fresca and helped me carry them to the car (because my family went to the car first and I couldn't hold both huge cups on my own while holding my leftovers...).
This is a nice place to stop for friendly service and good food while touring around the Salton Sea area! Enjoy!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 221521053Apr 24, 2021
We felt that the restaurant is in the middle of nowhere, but it's actually just 5 minutes from Slab city.
Being in the middle of nowhere and it seemed that it was one of the very few in the area, the restaurant has simple setting.
Service was quick, restaurant was clean and food was excellent.
My husband ordered the burger and he said it was very good. I had special of the day which was fried fish and rice came with a salad and it was great.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Nov 26, 2020
Ok if you find yourself out in this part of California, you must stop here and have lunch!
This place is home made, good Mexican food!
I was driving by and found this spot. I ordered crispy chicken tacos. My other friend preserved carne asada steak soft tacos. The food did take a bit to make, but it's made from scratch! Food came out hot and was full of great taste!
The price was amazing! The food was amazing and the service was good. Seating was outdoors because of covid, but the tables are disinfected, staff wears mask and menus are paper.
Don't drive by too fast or you'll miss this place! Definitely a place I'd love to go to again!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - L M.San Diego, CA0174Apr 22, 2023
Such a charming little place. Very reasonable prices, friendly service, and food that is better than the nicest diners I've been to.

I took my photography masterclass to Salvation Mountain and we went for dinner and breakfast here. Fresh food made with love - and the most lovely hosts. We would always make this our prime choice to go when in the area.
