Of course, its location is impeccable for a Red Sox fan. With just a five-minute walk, you can reach Fenway Park. Everything you need is within the walking distance, such as a subway/T station, bus stops, restaurants from high-end ones to casual ones, sports bars, BU, souvenir shops, etc.
This hotel is full of history. It was built more than a century ago and it's still well maintained, especially the red-brick facade. The room size is decent. In addition to that, the room is super clean and comfortable. Just for this, I'd like to recommend it to everyone. Their housekeeping team does a wonderful job. The front desk staff is also very very friendly and helpful. In general, it's a pleasant stay.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 3, 2020
Going to Fenway or The House of Blues for a show? Buckminster is right around the corner from Landsdowne! We were greeted with cookies in the lobby (definitely store Keebler but hey still a nice thought) and some holiday decor. Don't expect a large, spacious hotel. This is a city hotel for sure! Our room was very small but once again, this is an affordable downtown Boston hotel. We had a bed, TV, mini fridge and a private bathroom. I can say the bed was not a luxurious but a place to lay our heads. Our friends had the room directly above us and had an extra large living room attached to their double bed room. We had no space and they had a ridiculous amount of space. Either way- we chose this place because of location. It was raining and we had a short walk to the House of Blues for our show. Mission complete.
Also, parking was $40 and tight so bring the compact car instead of the pick-up truck.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 26290519Nov 6, 2018
I enjoyed staying at this hotel for the sole purpose of location. It is across from Fenway, 2 minute walking distance to many local restaurants and the House of Blue's. Location, location, location!
It is very clean but outdated. The rooms are substantially tiny. It is very loud as the train tracks, highway and road are right outside the window.
For the amount of space which is just a tiny room with a small bath I feel it is overpriced. But at the same time the price maybe up there with the prime location. The bed and pillows were VERY comfortable. You can get UNO's pizza room service.
The people that work there are a little odd but nice. They have a tiny parking garage that I was nervous to park my car in because I was afraid someone would have dinged my car. Thankfully that didn't happen.
There was construction going on outside of the parking garage and the very front of the hotel. Which made it hard pulling into and out of.
For prime location as previously stated and the comfort of the bed and pillows I would stay here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 30, 2018
Came to Boston to attend a residency day for my school. This hotel was very close to the school and the price wasn't bad so I decided to give it a try. Booked it online on their website which came with some unknown perks. First I got a discount for 14-day advance booking. Then I got $20 in vouchers for the restaurant in the hotel and a Uber and couple other vouchers. Pretty neat.
It is a very old hotel but has a lot of character. There are certain things they could fix to make it better and certain things they can't. The rooms are super small. Picture dorm room but with a bigger bed. Two people in this room would struggle. This is really a come in and go to sleep kind room. It isn't bad just small.
Questions is would I stay again. Absolutely but my reasons are simple. They are close to where I need to be, reasonably priced and clean. I would need more though if I had another person in the room.
Pros:
-price
-Location
-Very clean hotel
-Friendly staff
-Free Wi-fi
-Restaurant on-site
Con:
-Rooms are SMALL (but organized well)
-No counter in bathroom
-Cable TV is glitchy (pixelates constantly)
-Super thin walls (you hear all the convos in other room)
-Literally 1 free outlet in the roomHelpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melissa U.Sparks, NV61188256Dec 29, 2019
We wanted a hotel where we could walk to Fenway. With a Billy Joel concert and a ball game to attend, the ability to walk home was our main requirement in a hotel. This one is right across the street from Fenway. Nice, small, vintage hotel with a lot of nostalgia. We liked how you could get up and walk to get breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bars and restaurants around a plenty. Target was even in walking distance. Hey now!
The staff was very friendly, room was clean and comfortable. We did get a smaller room but it had everything we needed, no complaints there. Parking, that was an issue. They have a super small garage area that is also open to the public. Tight fit there, but at least we found a space for our rental car. Prices were very reasonable for the Boston area. I would definitely recommend the Buckminster for anyone wanting to stay in the Fenway area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 18, 2017
I stayed here overnight after a Sox game last week. Parking was only $35 for hotel guests and it was literally around the corner from Fenway so I was really pleased at the convenience. The room was a good size for a city hotel although the angles are a little strange. The bathroom lightswitch was outside the room and you had to take a hard right once you entered the bathroom since there was a wall right in front of you.
The bed was comfortable enough but the walls were quite thin and you could hear a lot around you. It never got all that dark either as the blinds weren't very strong. However, everything else was pleasant. It's dated but not outdated and the staff is friendly and courteous. I would stay here again if I could afford it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emrie S.Atlanta, GA117172281Feb 3, 2017
Summed up: Old, moldy, and basically a hostel with private bathrooms.
The king sized bed is insanely uncomfortable, with visible bowing on each side and a lovely lump in the middle. Sheets were soft, and clean though. Room as some sort of semen-like stain on it, and is worn down to the point of having bare spots on the upholstery. Headboard has several layers of dust, as do the walls. Everything in the bathroom is crooked, cracked, and molding. Shower water is lukewarm, and shower is the narrowest shower I've ever seen- not for those of us with wide hips or big booties.
Coffee pot wasn't clean. Patches of the ceiling are painted in different colors, making things reminiscent of a crack house. The hallway persistently wreaked of marijuana over my 3 day stay, and the thin windows leave you hearing loud sirens all night. There are no blackout curtains, but instead white wide blinds, which don't block out much sun. The view I had was of a busy street and a couple of buildings. There are also no bedside electrical outlets.
The upside of this hotel is the front desk staff. They are friendly and wonderful. The TV in the bedroom was also surprisingly nice for the state of everything else in this run-down room.
However, this hotel should be more like 50-60 a night and a 100.00 incidental hold on a room that is comparable to a run-down motel 6 is laughable. Want to extend your stay, because of an unforseen problem? You have to pay an additional incidental hold. The hilarity? There's no room service, so what incidentals?
I have stayed at the Loews for 30 more a night on most other business trips to Boston. I thought the fenway area would be a neat change, but this place is a dump. I won't be staying here again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 6, 2016
What are you looking for in a hotel? If your concern is location, comfortable beds, linens and pillows, a nice TV, some character and a big room with large windows and a great view of the city in Boston than this a great place to stay at very reasonable prices for all of the above.
I booked a "run of the house" room and expected a small room with two twin beds. I got an enormous suite with separate bedrooms, one with a queen and the other with two twins. Both had nice HD flat screen TVs, a view of Fenway Park across the street, and the Pru in the background. It was spectacular at first glance.
As I treat a hotel room as a place to sleep and relax between basketball games rather than a place to live and have company over, I was less concerned with the beige walls and lack of knick knacks or paintings on the walls like some reviewers. The room was quite clean, expansive and comfortable. Climate controls worked very well, and despite the location on a busy street, the rooms were pretty quiet.
The bathroom was very small, however, with hardly any shelving and no counter space if you bring your own toiletries. Water pressure was great. Hot water took forever to get going, but was ample once it finally arrived. Towels were thin but absorbent and plentiful. Bath and Body Works soap is on hand, as well as shampoo, conditioner and lotion.
As it is an older building, you may have to make some comfort adjustments with bedside outlets as well. My bed only had one outlet behind it and was used for two lamps. There was an outlet under the window and two more across the room on either side of the TV, but if you have a CPAP machine or want something charging and handy next to the bed, you're mostly out of luck or sitting in the dark with no lamps.
Parking was right next to the hotel and $35 a night and an extra $11 until 6 if you go over your check out time. Not unreasonable for Boston. The lot we used was very small, maybe 15 cars, and there was not attendant last night and people without tickets were parking there. Fortunately, we were able to shoehorn in to the last available spot between poorly painted lines that add to the difficulty. If I'm paying like that, there better be a spot when I get there. That was nearly unacceptable.
There's a restaurant attached to the hotel, Fenmore Grille that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and you get $5 in meal credits for each guest. That makes the morning a little more pleasant as well.
Staff was amenable, if not friendly and were helpful with a couple of issues. There is laundry available as well, on the 4th floor.
Overall, a great experience and very affordable for such a great room. A must stay of you're going to Fenway, House of Blues, the MFA, the Symphony, BU, Northeastern, Wentworth, etc. And the Kenmore T station is steps away and can get you anywhere.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2018
Stayed here for one night after a conference in Boston. I checked in close to 10 pm at night and was kindly upgraded to a junior king suite. The hotel is definitely older, but the elevator was at least functional. I initially loved that my room overlooked Kenmore Sq and the Citgo sign, but there was so much noise/lights that it was tough to fall asleep. The bathroom is equipped with all the essentials... shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, hairdryer. Shower pressure was good. There are no other mirrors and overhead lights in the rooms. A simple place to stay but nothing glamorous. For less than $150, this was a good deal.
