Recently my sister tied the knot and moved to Brownsville, Texas. I know a bit random. But the heart goes where it goes and wants what it wants and apparently her heart wanted a man that lived in Brownsville. I was a bit surprised to find that Brownsville (after three visits) is not the barren wasteland I initially felt it was. It has some interesting little spots. The Brownsville Heritage Resource Center is one of those spots. The Museum itself is small. It has interactive things for the younger ones (though I tend to enjoy those sorta things also as an adult). Some of the exhibits are a little cheesy but the majority is very interesting. I learned a lot about the area and its history. The most interesting thing on display I thought is the massive vehicle they call a car that has an 'iffy' past that ended up in Mexico from Germany. It truly is massive and definitely worth a look. The house attached to the Museum is also part of what you tour. It also does not take too long to wander around. I love old houses so I liked walking trough and seeing the architecture and the exhibits they had set up. The Courtyards of the house are pretty as well. If you keep your ticket (or maybe it was receipt) from entry into this museum you get to tour other things associated with the museum in differ parts of town. I did not get to see the other exhibits and museums housed in other locations in town but plan to check them out when I am back down in Brownsville. In one of the other museums (exhibits) there is apparently a fully refurbished locomotive that used to do all the trade between Mexico and Texas - sounds like something I'd definitely want to check out ... seeing as I have a ridiculous obsession for trains. If you are interested in History this is a definite 'do not miss' if you find yourself quite literally on the 'Boarder' in Brownsville, Texas.
