    • Q:

What's it like as a member to reserve tickets during this pandemic and limited entry? Is it worth buying the membership now?

      A:

It is 100% worth it and easy to do. I always book a day in advance but aside from school breaks they always have space and times for my family. It has been very easy to book tickets.

      Absolutely amazing!
      Favorite animal- sea lion
You must go on the Mono rail. Although the line is always long it continues to move. The information from the tour guide is fantastic.
Many peacocks just walking about the zoo.
What did I learn?- the Red Panda doesn't look like the big Panda we think of from Kung fu Panda movie and is not really part of the same family.

This is one of the best zoos in the world. And, since a child, have enjoyed it. But it wasn't until I was a parent to a kindergartener, I was sent to a class in the Bronx Zoo with my child's teacher. I learned how to look at animals with an analytical mind. To ask the "why's and how's. This made going there so much more enjoyable and educational. Thru this program, offered to NYC Public Schools, teachers, and their students' parents were more prepared to heighten the experience of this amazing Zoo.
When I ran a program for severely mentally ill adults, they had the task of obtaining group visiting information. When we went there, I gave a lesson on what to look for when observing a specific bird. Before I knew it, I was being photographed by some visitors from a foreign country and asked if I would also be their guide. I laughed because they were willing to pay. But I told them the truth. But could not have them join because of my clients' conditions which were not obvious, but I was concerned for their confidentiality.
So, The Bronx Zoo is a must for EVERY New Yorker as others from all over the world visit.

It's great to go for the first time or with someone that never went before but I have been here many times and it feels like it gets worse every time.

The last time I came here was 2018 2019 before the pandemic. I just came here April 2022 and it really fell off. Most of the animals are not there or sleeping/motionless.

Way too many kids screaming and coughing and unorganized everywhere. Not saying you can't have a good time but definitely wouldn't come back if I came here before. So many better options to spend time in NYC

An awesome time. Will be back for I didn't see all the animal.

If you do go, the train ride is a must which brings you around the zoo to see animals.

I am personally not necessarily against keeping animals at zoos, as they serve a huge educational purpose, but treating them well and with respect seems the least we could do, and with 'we' I mean not just zoo staff, but most certainly also the public. That being said, I enjoyed my time at the Bronx Zoo very much. The Bronx Zoo has many great exhibits and a lot of amazing animals. For instance, the best exhibits are the Gorilla Forest, African Plains, and Tiger Mountain.

Conjointly, the Bronx Zoo has plenty of stuff to do for kids and adults. To elaborate, the zoo offers a zoo shuttle ride, bug carousel, and a nature trek. With this in mind, the Bronx Zoo has tons of different, exotic animals to see. Such as, lions, tigers, giraffes, penguins, etc. When it's all said and done, the Bronx Zoo is a fine zoo with plenty of things to do.

What a great time to visit the Bronx Zoo. Holiday lights is in full effect. During the day the animal figures are still amazing without the lights.
The Bronx Zoo is really doing a great job of keeping wildlife upper most in our minds.
My 4 year old grandson had a ball. He got a chance to be close the "wild animals" (just the figures, but in his mind they were "real". Very excited to be in the animals company.
Well worth the visit either in the day or in the evening.
Make time for a great experience.
I attached some day photos and evening photos. Sorry but the photos are just the tip of the iceberg.
As a New Yorker, this is a must see/experience event

Located off major highway. Educational learning experience for entire family. Carousel ride is included in admission. Walking shoes is highly recommended as it takes hours to explore zoo.

We love this zoo! I don't really know why we don't come more often. It's quite large and pretty well maintained. The grounds are pretty to walk around in in the Spring.

It can be quite expensive to visit but if you do some research there are ways to get discount on tickets. We got discounted tickets by signing up for a free membership through the IDNYC program. If you are a IDNYC card holder, you can sign up for a free one year membership. The membership gets you free admission and you can add on the Total experience package for discounted price of $17.

The Total Experience package gives you access to all of the add on attractions like the Butterfly Conservatory, Bug Carousel, the 4D theater, the Wild Asia Monorail and others. Otherwise, they cost an additional $6 each if you have an admission ticket.

The Wild Asia monorail was one of my favorite parts of the visit. It felt wonderful to just sit back and listen to the tour guide after walking all day. Every seat on the monorail has great views and the ride is approximately 20 minutes long. Another recommendation is the Dinosaur Safari which is only offered seasonally. It is a narrated ride through a small section of the zoo where they feature animatronic, life sized dinosaurs. My nephew, who is a dinosaur fan, loved this ride. The ride is only about 15 minutes long. During warmer weather, you can pay extra to ride the camels. Children ages 3 and above can ride. Also, they often have special events like Boo at Zoo or Holiday Lights.

I highly recommend bringing your own food or at least bring your own drinks to help lower the cost of eating at the zoo. The food sold at the zoo cafes are very expensive. I noticed during my last visit that they now offer alcohol at the Pecking Order Café located near the Northern Ponds.

Like I said, the zoo is huge and there's no way you can fit everything in one visit. We will definitely be back.
