This intimate and well maintained theatre is a Bloomington gem! It's clean, artsy, and perfectly unique, which aligns perfectly with the fact that they only put on original pieces.
The theatre itself is very small, holding about 75 people. The stage is rounded and exposed, which is perfect for intimate shows where you want to see everything that's going on and not miss a thing. There is plenty of local art hanging on the walls of the lobby, along with tons of comfy chairs and sofas for lounging before or after shows. Additionally, there's quite a bit of parking around this area of town, from street parking or garages.
Check out BPP next time you're in Bloomington and want to see a unique show!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Katie B.Madison, WI49294294May 9, 2013
The Bloomington Playwrights Project is a Bloomington treasure. So many theaters in Indiana have the same old tired plays from years past or plays of popular books or movies. I love that they take a risk and stage completely new plays. I've seen about 4 different productions here, and I thought 3 of the 4 were excellent.
As Adam N, mentioned, it's not uncommon for shows to be sold out. The theater is pretty small and some of the seats aren't ideal if you have long legs so grab a seat early. The theater often partners with local businesses to offer free food or drinks in the lobby before the show. Or there may be IU students doing improv in the lobby, depends on the day. The BPP is one of my favorite things about Bloomington.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 27, 2011First to Review
This place is one of Bloomington's gems, and the word is getting out. I went to see The Blizzard last night, and we were turned away at the door, because they were sold out. If you want to see a show, I recommend you reserve your tickets! The lobby has been updated, and looks fabulous. The acting is always solid, and the play selection is always good. This is a great destination, and you can follow up with dinner downtown. If you want to see a play, keep an eye out. They're sure to have something you are interested in.

They do great work here - interesting selection of plays - BUT - the tickets are too expensive so I stopped seeing shows there. There used to be a number of $5 shows, but not anymore. The theater has combined forces with IU and seems more an extension of IUs theater department rather than the daring and sometimes renegade theater they used to be. The majority of the board members are IU faculty and the shows seem geared to that crowd. If you've got the money, I would recommend BPP - a fabulous small theater with great sight lines - just WAY more yuppified than it used to be.
Don't get me wrong - it is a great theater, just not as accessible to the community as it used to be - the 3 stars are for the lack of affordable tickets - the productions get 5 starsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle M.Sunnyvale, CA014Oct 15, 2011
Been here to watch Bombshell during the free GPSO event. I thought the staff were friendly. The play was really good. And the decor was slightly reminiscent of what you would get in SF. Overall, I'm happy to have found this place.
I only hope that the $5 discount price for students 5 min. before the show still holds for all events. Maybe??
Also, I wish there could be more of a variety of shows that perform on the regular basis. But if that's due to a budget thing...that's okay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
