The funghi pizza here deserves all 5 stars by itself. Made with delicious Violife mozzarella cheese which is the most melty gooey vegan cheese I've had in my 10 years as a vegan. The flavors are amazing and I love the pizza crust here. If you're a mushroom lover this is a MUST. They also have a plain cheese slice here which is the most basic drunk food cheese slicey looking vegan cheese slice I've seen. No shreds of unmelted non dairy cheese to be seen! Everything melted and it blew my mind. Most of the slices I got were big, but one was kinda small. I guess it depends who sliced the pie ):

If you're vegan or trying to be and cheese is your excuse to not be vegan... then blackbird is officially your answer. If you loveeee pizza, vegan or not, blackbird is AMAZINGGG! I wish we had this in NYC!

Slices are $3.50 each (a little high for pizza but since they basically made my dreams come true, that's fine). They also sell 12 inch personal pies and large regular pies- I believe you can customize those / add extra toppings you want.

Besides pizza they also have straight up "vegan junk food" sandwiches. Their seitan cheesesteak is a vegan philly cheese steak filled with delicious grilled seitan "beef" and gooey cheese. The sandwich bread is crusty and creates a perfect bite. Eat it fresh!! Probably not good soggy.

The wings I had were just alright personally. I mean they were good and the seitan "chicken" texture was good. But maybe it was just seitan overkill at that point for me. That habenero buffolo is SPICYYY.

Overall blackbird is a 5 star experience. All the vegan food with grease included. Gluten-free goers be warned!!! (They do have a side of kale though lol)

A really delicious non descript place. I have never had vegan pizza before and love pizza. I was so pleasantly surprised - it tasted no different than regular pizza.

Of note, they recently changed to coconut-based vegan cheese and it seems like people tend to like it more. I was surprised to hear this because I couldn't smell or taste any coconut which was awesome. You can order by the slice or a whole pizza. We went around 8 PM on a weekday and they were still making fresh pizza.

Their creations are on point and the flavors are unbelievable. The balboa slice and the BBQ were so good I could not believe I was indulging while keeping it plant-based. Definitely pay these guys a visit if you're in Philadelphia :)

Food to die for that no one had to die for.  I've had heart eyes for Blackbird Pizzeria since trying some Blackbird seitan at Orchard Grocer in NYC, so I was super excited to have an opportunity to stop by while I'm in Philadelphia for the next few days.  I decided to pop in for a late lunch and pick up some stuff to take back to my hotel for dinner.

I did what I'm sure everyone reflexively does when they come here - I ordered the seitan cheesesteak.  It's a solid sandwich, with almost eerily convincing seitan steak, tender grilled onions, and a generous squirt of cheez wiz.  I thought it looked kind of small when I was ordering, but rest assured this thing is THICK.  I also did the reflexive Buffalonian thing and ordered wings, which were INCREDIBLE.  I've never had vegan wings that even begin to approach the savory melt-in-your-mouth goodness of the real thing but I swear these are better.  The root beer barbecue sauce is a condiment innovation on par with salt.  I wasn't a huge fan of the dairy free ranch but this was otherwise a perfect dish.

For dinner, I got a takeout slice of the funghi pizza, which I was expecting to be blown away by as a truffle lover.  It wasn't my favorite vegan pizza - I find that Violife plays the role of cheese pretty well when there's a lot of other stuff going on, but with no red sauce, this slice pretty much just tasted like extra chewy trumpet mushrooms.

I found the service perfectly friendly, and the place is so cozy and in a really cute area of Philadelphia.  I want to try everything on the menu.

My vegan cousin insisted that Blackbird be our first stop upon entering Philadelphia, as she'd heard rave things from a fellow vegan friend who'd visited and tried the Philly Cheesesteak there. We were definitely not disappointed! The sandwich was chockfull of toppings and flavor and was served piping hot (beware, you may want to give it a few minutes to cool, lest you burn the roof of your mouth like I did).

I opted for the vegan Chicken Parm, which was equally fantastic. If I hadn't known otherwise, I wouldn't have thought it was vegan. It was super tasty, and their tomato sauce was absolutely fantastic.

We didn't get to try a pizza, but we'll definitely stop by on our next visit to Philadelphia!

After a day spent commuting from NYC and exploring the greater Philly area, my homie and i needed some good grub to re-energize us. i definitely had high expectations for this spot after researching where i could get the best Philly cheesesteak.

First the good:
The cheesesteak did not disappoint. Once i put some hot sauce on that joint, it was all the way turnt up! Flavorful, on good bread, and with just enough heartiness to quell the hunger pangs i had been feeling.

Now the bad:
My homegirl ordered the seitan parm, and that's where we had to side-eye the whole operation. First, the bread on that parm sandwich is wayyyyy too diesel! How can the bread for the chicken parm be more brolic than the bread for the cheesesteak? Nahhh...something was all the way wrong. Then, the seitan in the parm was mad thick as well! My homie and i effectively had to eat the seitan separate from the bread cuz each full bite of "meat" plus bread might have broken our jaws off. Not cool.

Overall, Blackbird seems like an okay spot to get your vegan fix, but there are a few culinary execution errors that can easily be fixed.

My friend and I came here because we wanted pizza and honestly this is the first place we saw so we can came here. We didn't even realize it was vegan until after we ordered. I don't eat meat a lot and I hate fake meat but this place was delicious! I had the Funghi pizza and the Haymaker pizza and both were great but the Haymaker... I could live off of. We also shared the Root Beer BBQ Wings which were great and the sauce on those were AMAZING. Service was friendly and not much to else other than that but even if you are not vegan, come here! You should try it because it tastes EXACTLY like the real thing.

This is such a fun place to dine. Especially with good friend or new friends.  They have a great variety of toppings and a fantastic staff that will keep the drinks flowing and give truthful recommendations about what they like the best on the menu and what goes well together.

I would for sure plan to go here when you are in town. Don't forget to ask for extra garlic!  That's my favorite.

If you are looking for average, this is not your place. They are well above average for quality, price, service and selection.

had my first legit vegan cheesesteak and it was theee BOMB!!! I was very impressed and it was def better than the one I had at Hip City Veg.. I was kinda nervous because the HCV version wasnt that good but this one here.... mmm.. mmmm lol

I also had a bite of their pizza and again it tasted legit.. I will def be back
