The MOST delicious steak I ever had. Sooo juicy and melt in your mouth. The side clam chowder was delicious as well. Our server was very friendly and taught us how to cook the steak on the lava stone.

The service at this location is awful.
We experienced an excessively long wait time for our food and the server never checked in with us. We had to flag down the waitstaff several times to get updates on our food.
I decided to give it another shot, placed a reservation and when we arrived it was a 45 minute wait, regardless of reserving.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Doug S.Warren, MI04723Mar 27, 2024
It's a cool experience, cooking food steak, at table to ur liking. Was good, stones cool don't waste time. Had shrimp also, was not to my liking, but others may like.

I had the Ribeye Medium Rare with the baked sweet potato and tortilla soup. The soup was decent, the baked sweet potato was cooked alright but the steak was one of the worst ribeyes I have ever had. It takes a lot for me to not finish a meal, especially a steak. You'll have better luck at Outback or Applebees...no really, you will. I mentioned the meal quality to the server, and all he had to say was sorry and handed me a bill. The picture provided is 3 bites in, and I didn't finish it or take it home.

4 of us went for the Easter Brunch Buffet and my son found a long hair wrapped around his ribs. I called our waiter over and showed him and asked him to refund his part of the bill ($30) since we were all sick at this point and ready to leave. He refused and offered us a free appetizer handing us a coupon, which they have on this website... Really? We will not be back since its ok to have long hairs in your food.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to wipe the slate clean and start over again? That's what Yelp has decided to do, since my previous reviews are gone now. So here we go.
My wife and I didn't want to come here because we've had bad service here so many times. She decided to tell one of the workers, who apologized and seemed really interested in making sure we had a better experience. That was a busboy, but it was nice to hear.
We had a party of 8, and they wanted to seat us at a massive booth. That meant that anyone on the inside who needed to get up would make everyone get up. We asked to be moved, and it was taking a while, so we picked a table ourselves.
Service was mostly good, except it seems to be policy here for the server to wait until we finished eating the appetizers were before the main courses started cooking. I know restaurants do this because they want you to take your time and order extra drinks while waiting for dinner. Very annoying.
My appetizer was the smallest cup of lobster bisque I've ever seen. It's about the size of a small tea cup. Tasty, but 3 ounces of soup is just ridiculous.
I ordered the One Eyed Lucy, which was served (nearly cold) with a big, beefy burger and a fried egg on top. Tasty burger, but warmer would have been better. The truffle fries were crispy and subtly truffley. Also cold.
Ketchup was not provided with the fries, and when my wife asked for it, she was given two tiny ketchup containers, the 1 ounce size ones. After sufficient whining on our part, they finally gave us a full-sized ketchup container.
That bus boy came back to see how we were doing, and helped out with refills and such. I was very touching, but you would think the manager would have more of an interest in such things. Maybe this was an episode of Undercover Boss, and he's the youngest CEO in history?
This is my fifth visit here, And the last four we have gotten spotty service. This is a reflection on the management, so hopefully somebody reads this and does something about it. You can't just rely on the awesome gimmick of cooking food at the table to do all the work for you. You have to make sure that the servers have sufficient support, and that they don't hold the main course hostage waiting for the appetizers to be eaten. That's a relic from the 1980s, and we don't need it in this century.
I only came back here because other people wanted to go. The food is excellent, as always, but it's hard to get past the issues with the service. If Yelp wipes out my review again, and I have to come back here again, I can only hope things will get better.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

Sep 12, 2020Previous reviewThis is one of the places I was happy to see reopen in the new world we're living. I could smell the steak cooking on the hot black rock just mentioning the name of the place. And, I know that there are other really good options here. The question is whether or not the service could adapt. The service wasn't great the last time I was here, and that was before all this happened.
We had a party of seven, and needed a reservation, plus we had to wait outside before we could be seated. Understandable under the current conditions.
Now, about the service. We were given one of those wrap-around tables that are so bad for large groups because the people inside are basically stuck. We saw an open table, but we were told that we'd have to go back outside and wait for as different server. Weird.
Two of the drinks we ordered were missed and had to be ordered again. Drink and appetizer service was solid after that. Then, the server told us our food was ready and she was going to get it. She then proceeded to take orders from other tables, then ask us if we needed anything else. We said we just wanted her to bring out the food.
Finally, 15 minutes after telling us the food was ready, we got our food. The cook-it-yourself steaks were fine because they are supposed to be raw. But, predictably, most of the other food was cold. Sides we asked for (like ranch dressing) were missing. We sent back the fries and onion rings because they were cold.
The MOAS - "mother of all sandwiches" - is more of a massive, greasy burrito than a sandwich. The filling was jammed with quality steak. The sauce that was supposed to be on the side was missing, and it needed it because the filling - while ample - was a bit flat. I would get this again.
The remade fries were crispy and tasty, like Rally's fries. The remade onion rings were nicely breaded and crispy. But, we should've gotten that the first time rather than having to have them remade.
The manager was quick to come over and try to make things right, and that was appreciated. But, the shame in all this was that was saw a table of maybe 10 Black Rock employees relaxing and enjoying what must have been a break. I understand that everyone needs a break once in a while, but I don't get so many at the same time when servers like ours obviously needed help.
Our server tried hard, but she also had a tendency to disappear as soon as one person asked for something, before finding out that others at the table also wanted something.
And, you pay a premium for all this. They didn't comp us anything at first. But, later, the manager decided to comp us 50% on our bill, which is astonishing. We had already paid our bill, but he said it would be credited back when it gets processed. That bought them an extra star.
So, while the food is still great, the problems we had with service in the past have remained. As a customer, you shouldn't have to complain to the manager to get good service.
I would say this is still a good place to go if you're planning to only order the steak and you're not in a hurry or picky about spotty service. But, wow, they really need to fix what are still huge problems with the service.May 25, 2019Previous reviewWhat a difference a year makes. We're now 40 minutes after placing our order, and we're finally getting our main course. This was at 3 o'clock on a Saturday. Remember, this is the place where they bring you raw meat and you cook it yourself at the table. What were they doing all that time, slaughtering the cow and breaking it down?
We did also order a chicken sandwich, which came with a tasty artichoke dip, and a sloppy but otherwise well-made Portabella mushroom sandwich. But, the amount of time was excessive.
I did see a cast of thousands walking around, and all of them were willing to help a struggling waitress who appeared to not be too familiar with how to do the job. When we wanted drink refills, she took two of our cups away and disappeared into the kitchen to refill them; when she got back, she got the other two cups, instead of bringing out a pitcher. Is that normal? But, this is the case for one person can really make a huge difference in your impression of a restaurant.May 29, 2018Previous reviewYou should know before you ever go out to eat with me but I'm a bit of a food snob. I have certain expectations - regardless of the venue - when I go out to eat. Black Rock delivers a number of the things I expect, and then some.
We started with the soft pretzels, which came with an okay sour cream dip and a tasty jalapeño cheddar dip. As with everything they serve here, these were served on a hot plate...a black rock (hence the name on the building). This seems like a gimmick, but I think we've all gotten used to having food get cold before we're done eating it. That's literally impossible here.
I opted for the lobster bisque, which sounds pricey at $9.99, but is everything a lobster bisque should be: creamy, but not overly buttery. The fresh lobster was delivered to you in a claw, which you break open and then add to the soup.
And, I really can't understand anybody who doesn't order a main course that you get to cook yourself here. We all got the sirloin, and once again being able to keep it hot, and cook it exactly the way you want it, is awesome. The fact that it was a phenomenally good cut of meat certainly helps, too. I also liked that the mushrooms we ordered with the steak had their own hot plate.
And, the service was also excellent. We didn't have to go chasing around to find our server: there is always somebody nearby who could help us.
The price is a bit high compared to some places, and I wouldn't be able to take my family here every week. But what you get for the extra money is completely worth it. - Seesee M.Ann Arbor, MI29136May 10, 2023Updated review
5-9-23 Good place for birthdays. I hadn't been in years. Food was good. Service was good. Free appetizers were great!! Onion rings, Brussels sprouts, spinach dip were very tasty. Will definitely come back soon.

Feb 7, 2019Previous review2-6-19 First time here for my birthday. Nice family atmosphere. Lots of people had kids with them including myself. Food was good. Try the black rock chicken. I was surprised that the sirloin steaks cooked up well. I would come back. Please note that the gratuity was already added to the bill.

My bartender was amazing. The food was even better. We sent Sunday afternoon. It was peaceful and very fast service. The bakers cinnamon roll martini tasted awesome. A great recommendation from the bartender.

No, it's just a no from me. The steak is low quality for more money than any steak house in the area, the only cut of steak they offer is a sirloin and it is trash. Everything is greasy and smoky and just not great. Our server must have got lost when it was time to cash us out because we sat for a good 15 mins waiting. The pretzel app is good. That's about it
