Big Dipper Ice Cream

Super nice service and generous scoop sizes! They have more "classic" flavors compared to something like Sweet Peaks, but still hold it down with their own rotating menu. We got the huckleberry and caramel waffle (rotating) flavor. Both were delicious and the double scoop is perfect to share.

We were just passing through Missoula so probably won't be back soon :p but would recommend this to anyone visiting.

Huckleberry Ice cream is my favorite ice cream and I can't get it where I'm from. This place has the best I've had. They have pre packed pints for $5 or if it's not a flavor that's pre packed you can have them pack one for $7.
They also have waffle cones and the regular ones too.

Staff was great and friendly too. It's a small place but that's what makes it feel like home.

Inventive and unusual flavors - like Dolly Parton and black licorice. Line outside moves quickly. Scoops are generous and a good value. I got a kiddie size scoop of the mint Oreo in a cone - delicious.

The Big Dipper is a must have every trip I make to Missoula. While they have a lot of delicious options, my go to is always the huckleberry ice cream! Having grown up in the PNW, huckleberries are a staple and a treat I now cherish since I've moved away. The ice cream is super creamy and packed full of huckleberry flavor. The single scoop is extremely generous, I can't imagine what the double scoop looks like! I've had the homemade waffle cone before and it's delicious, just wasn't craving it this trip. There is always a line, but it moves quickly. The servers are friendly and are happy to answer any questions. I recommend Big Dipper to everyone that visits Missoula!

Visiting Montana this weekend for the first time ever. This place always had the longest line so I was intrigued. The line moved faster than expected but I feel like I was still in line for like 10 mins +

I am not a fruity ice cream girly but I saw all the reviews saying the huckleberry is what they are known for. They do samples so I was able to give it a try. Super smooth and not an overwhelming sweet berry flavor. I got the Oreo mint and vanilla Reece's. Both are delicious and exactly what you'd expect from those flavors.

The staff seemed very nice and helpful.

Before coming to Missoula, I looked up places that had to be tried out and Big Dipper Ice Cream was one that popped up many times.

They have black licorice ice cream! I've only had that in Iceland before (land of black licorice love). So, it was really exciting to see that here. I of course got that and the huckleberry ice cream as well, in a waffle cone.

The young gals working were really nice and gave off happy vibes. I loved it.

Best ice cream we've ever had!! We have kids in our family with gluten allergies and my husband has alpha gal (so he's dairy free). I ordered the black licorice and cardamom in a dish- and if you're a black licorice fan- GET IT! My husband ordered the vegan Dulce De Leche Vanilla and stated it's the best dairy free ice cream he's ever had!! (And he's tried a lot!) We also tried Vanilla and Reece's, Tangerine sorbet (sooo good!!) and Salted Caramel. The servers were fantastically friendly and had the system of ordering down to an art. The ambiance makes you feel like you've stepped back in time with the neon lights and picnic tables that surround of place- and the community (and line around the block) that comes out for ice cream, makes it feel even more so.

Excellent stop with outdoor seating and a good selection of flavors. Worth going just to get a homemade waffle cone. I tried the cardamom and huckleberry flavors which were both great. The cardamom has a smooth calm flavor like the spice, feels refined. The huckleberry which I hadn't had before reminds me a lot of blueberry but with some notes of cherries maybe? Would like to come back to try some of their specials which were more adventurous flavors.
Just know there's no restrooms there.

I love when ice cream shops have a mom and pop feel. This was my first visit to Missoula with my gpa and had to make a stop. Can't wait to try more flavors when we come back to town later this year!
