My family recently decided to head up to Big Bear for a few nights. I am a planner and decided to check Yelp to find things to do that will appeal to my daughters (6 and 9 years old). I saw the horrible ratings the Funplex received, so I didn't add it to our "to-do" list and I made a mental note not to waste our money there.
We stayed at the Marina Resort, so we decided to walk across the street, past the Funplex to the Bowling Alley. We were out of luck, there were no lanes open. Our daughters convinced us to check out the Funplex and I am so glad we did. My girls had an absolute blast. We got $20 worth of tokens and they turned it into a ton of tickets. The guy working the ticket counter was very nice and had so much patience with my indecisive daughter. They decided they wanted to try out the "ice skating" rink. The staff was very helpful setting our girls up with the appropriate skates and gear. It's not a real ice skate rink, but that didn't really matter. My kids had the biggest smiles on their faces the entire 30 minute session - totally worth the $16. Yes, they fell and had oil from the rink on them, but it washes off and was totally worth it. The place might be a little run down, but if they remodel, their prices will go up and right now, it is pretty cheap for lots of fun. My kids cannot wait to go back and this time, it will definitely be on my list of things to do.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 23, 2017
Friendly but not so upkept atmosphere.
This place is fun for the kids while you are in town but have them wash their hands before leaving.
The prices are ok, the skating is not on ice, but it will keep kids entertained.
Ask about the package deals as they are the best value.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John H.Indianapolis, IN01916Jan 13, 2018
One start because it's obligatory. Otherwise no star.
And seeing as how I can't leave such a short review. Here's a story of what you'll arrive to upon entering. Atms don't work, machines don't dispense tokens correctly, coin currency doesn't workHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ben D.Long Beach, CA211548Jan 14, 2018
Tons of games out of order. Staff lethargic and don't respond to games (that don't have out of order signs) taking tokens but getting jammed. They just both sit in their Booth playing on their phones.
Told them that the record game gas pedal has a bad connection and hardly works. They said sorry. Loosing four coins, means losing four stars in Yelp.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenny N.Walnut, CA15921786Jul 29, 2015
This place is a little run down and has a strange set up. We came here to let two 2 year olds play some mini golf because we had been advised that a thunderstorm was about to hit the area and theirs is indoor vs Cosmic golf and Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain.
Just about everything they offer, laser tag, ice skating, games and mini golf is in one building. The mini golf is a strange Tetris arrangement of wooden platform boards. They are so close together, there's nowhere to stand. The toddlers started at hole #1, which is hard to find at first. They tried playing but quickly lost interest.
So we returned the golf clubs and went to buy some tokens so they could ride in the fake Hummer, sadly it wasn't working. There's not much here to entertain the kiddies, and a lot of the games were out of order.
The ice skating rink, is a plexiglass type floor, in a really small rink. Don't see how anyone can skate in there.
The staff was nice, but I would not come here again unless I really wanted to play some laser tag.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Melissa L.Gilbert, AZ7214493162Jan 18, 2017
Having kids we were excited to come here and let them have some fun. Hearing they have laser tag, ice skating, mini golf, and an arcade we were pretty stoked. Arriving inside we were instantly disappointed. This place is super tiny! They cram everything in one room and it is not comfortable. I was expecting an actual ice skating rink but it was this tiny circle that wasn't really ice and looked like for kids under 10. The railing went up to my chest.
We paid for the mini golf and laser tag combo. We did the mini golf first since laser tag was a 30 minute wait. The mini golf is so crammed that no matter where you stand you either don't fit or you're standing in the next hole in someone's way. It's very dirty and layout of it is just terrible.
Then we went to laser tag which was fun. I feel like it was really quick but you get to be in there with just your party. Layout was big enough and had cool hiding spots. Best thing here.
Fun to get the kids out of the cabin, but very outdated and dirty.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - Lisanne H.Merced, CA4783212Nov 20, 2016
Well.
1) Skating rink was wack.
2) 9 out of 10 games were broke
3) Laser Tag was busted.
4) Expensive. We almost rock paper scissor to see who could play lol
In this area, this so called "fun place" needs some funding. I am pretty sure the locals can help out some. Then again, what do I know other than this place was like an abandoned amusement park pieces that were stuck in a room with a price tag.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Feb 26, 2014
So so so sad...this place is straight out of a scary movie or Twilight Zone. We went for the "ice skating". I have never seen such a pathetic excuse for a rink. It's a small white plastic area that is "synthetic ice". No one...and I mean, NO ONE was in the entire building, except for a few teenage workers who looked bored out of their minds.
It was dark and dingy and probably hasn't been cleaned since it opened. Sorry place for "fun".
Just stay away!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0
