I bought an item from Newegg and was shipped an empty box.  Newegg was telling me that they were highly unlikely to ship me a replacement item or reimburse me the $580 I spent on the item (iPhone).  I contacted the BBB and they elevated the claim and helped me to get a replacement item shipped to me.  Without the BBB, I would still be trying to fight Newegg, and likely have had to go through a small claims court.

The BBB helped me to get what I paid for, and kept a paper trail of all communications.

Not only is BBB notorious for giving preferential treatments (by giving higher ratings) to companies that pay them more, BBB does nothing to provide good, let alone decent, customer service.

I recently had a situation where I sent them a full, detailed complaint on a company...only to receive an e-mail stating that they closed the case with no explanation whatsoever, and instructed me to RESUBMIT a complaint to yet another website address and/or back via their e-mail link...and that they would forward that information. As upset as I was to do this all over again, I did just that. Instead of posting on a BBB website again (which I know may get simply "closed" again with no explanation!), I e-mailed back the full complaint, along with the company address, phone number, etc. Since no response after a week, I e-mailed them a follow-up...with no response. I e-mailed them again...again with no response.

At this point, after a month of no response, I resorted to calling them long distance (no 1-800 number). The secretary took my message, even said this certain Raquel Negrete was handling my case. More days pass by, and still no response I called again and left yet another message for Raquel Negrete...and no response. Then, on the third long-distance call, I asked for her supervisor, Erin McCool, to call me back ASAP. Guess what? No response! I called again and left my second message on Erin McCool's voice-mail AND also left the message with the secretary...both with no response! At this point, I called again, and turned to "Human Resources" department to report both of them for their complete lack of customer service.

Strangely enough, when I clicked to be transferred to "Human Resources", Raquel Negrete answered the call herself! As I went on to explain my frustration over this entire situation, Raquel did not even offer the slightest of apology. Instead, she was outright rude. She even had the gall to say that I was not their only customer (after ignoring me for a month!!), and that they don't handle cases like mine. ?!? That is NOT what her initial mail said nor instructed me to do...and I pointed that out to her. WHY waste my time telling me to redirect my complaint AGAIN when they do not handle my case? By the way, THAT itself was complete bulls**t on her part. My complaint case was simply that of POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and SHADY OPERATING PROCEDURES...something that should ALWAYS be handled by Better Business Bureau. How could she even LIE, saying that BBB does not handle cases like mine???

After this incredulous interaction with a rude staff member at BBB, I did further research online. What I discovered is this...Better Business Bureau is nothing but a SCAM, a total FRAUD. As I've read in countless reviews online, it's true that BBB simply takes money from companies to give them high ratings. This is simply a ploy to scam companies...into BUYING themselves higher ratings.

On the flip side, they do NOTHING for customers...as they have no vested in interest in customers at all. In fact, for companies (like the one I called to report about) that are NOT registered with them (thus no ratings, no trade-offs), there is NOTHING they can do for the customer. In short, they will only protect companies that spent tons of dollars to buy themselves a high rating. Therefore, if you are calling about a business that is smart enough NOT to be registered with them, BBB could care less how they treat you (as they did in my case)...unless the BBB eventually decide to scam the company in question into paying them the right amount of money to avoid bad ratings.

In short, if you are a business owner (big or small), DO NOT PAY THEM A PENNY...This is a SCAM. Once you pay them, you've given them control. If you are a customer, know these things: ONE - if the business is not listed, don't bother. Again, they could care less (since not vested with the business) and will most likely ignore you. TWO - if the business IS listed and have an A rating, BBB will not do ANYTHING for you. A rating most likely means the the business paid BBB plenty of money to ensure protection from customers like you. BBB gets away with treating businesses (scamming them of their money) and customers (neglecting them altogether) like s**t because this is a non-profit organization, consisting of 112 independently incorporated local BBB organizations in the United States and Canada. Although further up the line, it supposedly (which is suspect!) answers to "CBBB", governed by leaders of local BBBs, each BBB is run separately and is chiefly funded by its Accredited Businesses, who often serve on its board. Simply put, each local sector of BBB does things of its own accord, and does not answer to governmental laws of any kind.   BBB is a SCAM.

The BBB is a wonderful place to contact if you are having problems with an establishment. It is only certain issue they'll handle and if you meet their criterias they are going to help you to the fullest. You can call them or go on line and and file your complaint. They have always helped me when I needed them. If you have a complaint and it's within the area of their capablities they will go above and beyond to make you a satisfied customer. I have had to call on them 3 times and all 3 times they have come through for me. I am very satisfied with the BBB.

I a made my complaint regarding an issue with my home warranty company being certain to provide the all relevant details and policy numbers.  It took a little over two weeks for the company to respond but they did agree to refund my service fee as I had requested.  The entire process took very little effort on my part.  Kudos to the BBB!

I had a problem with a company where I paid for access to a website.  I was unable to access the site and cancelled my subscription with the organization, and requested my money back (all within a hour after signing up) Customer Service response was that they were able to get into the site, so there was no problem, they cancelled my subscription, but refused to refund my money.  I immediately came to the BBB site and filed a complaint against the company.  After I filled out the extremely easy form on the BBB site I was giving a complaint number, which I forward to the company who refused to refund my money.  I got an email back that same day, stating that the refund had been issued.  You have a problem with an organization come to the BBB, the company will response to their request and things get solved.  This is not my first time using the BBB and won't be my last, I have always received great results with the BBB

Fly N Save Oakland parking company did not respond to my requests to refund my fees for the cancellation of parking well in advance of the deadline. I filed a complaint with BBB and and the response from Fly N Save was positive and prompt, actually on the same day! Without BBB, I wouldn't have been able to get a response, god knows how long!!

AWESOME Service!!! Quick & easy with results.
I had an issue with a car repair. I tried on my own to get my money back to no avail. I contacted the BBB via online filed my complaint and submitted my supporting documents. Within 24 hours BBB responded..."The case has been reviewed and has now been forwarded to the business for their response. This business has until July 10, 2017 to respond to your complaint. You may contact our office after July 10, 2017 to check the status of your complaint." Within 5 days the business contacted me to apologize and agree to my full refund.
I cannot say enough good about this FREE service the BBB provides. The online process is simple and quick!!! If you've been wronged or didn't receive the service you paid for by a business do not hesitate to contact the BBB

The BBB is always there as a first step in a dispute. After contacting them issues are usually resolved without going any further.

I had never considered using BBB before but while reading about a company who was giving me the runaround for an item had posessed mentioned using BBB to get their money back so I went on the BBB website to report that company. I was so happy that I did. The lies and excuses the company kept giving me were suddenly quieted when BBB got involved and my money was returned to me.I was surprised and pleased.

Years later a company fraudently signed me up to a "lifetime" subscription of their product that I did not agree to and was not trying to give me a refund. I went to Big Brother BBB and it took some back and forth as I anxiously checked my bank account for my refund but finally that money came in.

Thank you BBB, I will always recommend.

I filed an online complaint the Hunt & Henriques law firm because they had fraudulently filed a judgement against my wife for a debt owed to Citibank by someone else with the same first name, middle initial and last name. It came back denied because it wasn't in their purview. I called the BBB office directly, and the person I spoke to was extremely polite, looked carefully at my complaint, spoke to the person who denied it and asked some questions of me. At the end she saw that there was indeed a reason for them to handle the complaint, and they are going forward with it.
    Top notch!

I just looked up EBay on their website. Ebay received over 6,000 complaints at a 91% rate and yet this BBB gave them the highest rating of A+.

How exactly does that work? Very odd. You have to wonder if a smaller business that received 91% negative reviews would be rewarded with a A+ rating.

I ordered an item from a company's online store recently. After almost a week, I found out the company was experiencing delays in shipping times. Since I could not receive the item by the time I needed it for, I asked to cancel my order and issue a refund. The company refused to cancel my order and instead tried to offer me store credit for the value of the order. After going back and forth with the company for weeks, contacted BBB and this problem was resolved in days! I used their online platform to submit my complaint. The entire process was simple and hassle free.

The Better Business Bureaus is integral to holding businesses accountable. Essentially, our society works as well as it does thanks to the BBB. This is the second time I've had to file a complaint with the BBB. (Once 20 years ago and the other just last month.) Both times, the businesses chose to honor my request once the BBB became involved.

Over the years, I make a habit of looking up a business with the BBB before signing contracts. I've found it to always be a helpful step in vetting businesses.

I am so grateful we have the BBB to bridge businesses with customers.

I have used the Better Business Bureau in the past and have had great results.
Recently after getting no results from dealing directly with DirectTV. I had to file a complaint against them. I got great results after filing the complaint and my elderly father was NOT charged the $380.00 Early Termination Fee.
If you have a valid complaint it is well worth the effort to file a complaint with the BBB!!

I love the BBB. They've helped us solve so many issues with corporations and even when things didn't get resolved we were able to use other resources who did help. You fill out the form online and they review it before sending it off to the corporation. Sure, there is a time constraint however with anything patience is a virtue. There is also an opportunity for you to view what claims have been placed against corporations so you can decide if you would like to do business with them. Not sure why this place has such poor reviews, but if you have determination and motivation there isn't anything you can't accomplish on your own even if you use BBB as a stepping stone. Stephanie smiles big for BBB!

Very helpful. If your complaints are justified, and have a reasonable expectation of resolution, the BBB has been super helpful. It's worth your time to file the complaint. The BBB contacts the business and watch the business jump.

I've used them 3 times to come to satisfactory resolutions. I usually try contacting the business on my own first, and they are great at shutting you out. But when BBB calls, they suddenly become so responsive. Give it a shot. Marketplace fairness if for everyone, not just big wigs.

Don't waste your time with the Better Business Bureau they are a joke. they take sides on whoever pays them off. The stood up for PayPal because they are probably paying them in order to receive their A+ rating from the BBB.  They are a joke, don't waste your time.
I went to the Better Business Bureau because I purchase something from China on PayPal and when the item received totally not as described PayPal is making me pay $100 to ship the item back to China and when I went to the Better Business Bureau about it they will do nothing for me because obviously PayPal pays them off you can tell by paypals A+ rating that is how people get their good ratings at the Better Business Bureau they slip dollar bills into their back pocket don't believe anybody's Better Business Bureau rating it is a joke.
Eat a big fat one Better Business Bureau and PayPal
I'll pay the hundred bucks in order to get my money back but this is ridiculous,  somebody sent me someplace and instead of food grade material from China and I have to pay to ship the it back.  What a freaking capitalistic world we live in. Climb up others backs to the top stomp there heads into the ground when you get there
