BHR has been serving great food to Sullivan County diners since 1963. The Resnick Family purchased the restaurant in 2011 and has continued the tradition. Serving up great Fish and Steak dishes with cutting edge specials every week. The restaurant underwent a full renovation when the Resnick's took over, and now has outdoor dining and a 180 seat catering hall. Come and see what has kept this place going since 1963.

We wandered into Bernie's since we were staying at the adjacent Sullivan Ramada hotel for a few days of R&R away from NYC. If you've never been to Rock Hill, NY, this is that kind of town with one hardware store, one supermarket, one gas station, a couple of restaurants, and a post office.
Having said all that, Bernie's could easily get away with cutting corners in, but they certainly don't, and our dinner for two was nothing short of fantastic! Shane was a fantastic host, and gave a nice intro to the restaurant space, menus, and the more intimate events they host at BHR (larger events are usually held at the next door Sullivan). My wife went with the seared ahi tuna, and they literally brought out an entire fish on that plate! I was expecting a handful of slices scattered between the sides, but we were both pleasantly shocked at the serving size. Best of all, the fish was awesome, and the wasabi aioli and other sauce were the perfect compliment. The duck I ordered was cooked perfectly, sliced nicely, and topped with a succulent sauce alongside some crispy potato skins for an interesting side.
We both left satisfied and really enjoyed our meal here. Despite being the last ones inside (see note below), we were treated wonderfully, and above all else, the food was exceptional! Hats off to everyone here - we will definitely be back next time we're in the area :)
.
Small tip (and maybe a suggestion to the owners/managers) - OpenTable allows you to book reservations all the way up until 9:45pm here, but their kitchen closes at 10pm on weekends. Soooo, if you sit down for a 9:45 reservation, make sure you are ready to order!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dennis G.New York, NY1411982113Aug 13, 2023
BHR is Sullivan County's premier restaurant since 1962. Their American Fish & Steak House menu features the best that NYS has to offer.
Sadly, they're closing after 6 decades of excellence. BHR will be missed. RIPHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 8, 2023
Tonight I didn't have food although I have to say it's always good.
I love their martinis but the old man bartender is so anti social it's hard being around him.
You need new blood friendly trendy people.
I always enjoy martinis & always meet cool people.
But the bartender with the beard is there too long he's "tired", you need fresh bloodHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Francesca G.Southside Place, TX352820Jul 14, 2023
This restaurant is expensive but the quality of the food is not good. Let's start with the appetizer:
I got jumbo shrimp scamp and they were cooked good but they were FULL of garlic so finally it covered the shrimp flavor.
Entree: I ordered a Margherita pizza for my son and there was not the mozzarella but some other type of strong cheese. I also ordered linguine with meatball and tomato sauce but the tomato sauce was not so much cooked.
My husband ordered a porterhouse steak and for the price I paid it was not so good.
Finally my ny steak was good and cooked as I asked.
Service was good and people were nice. That's the reason why I gave two stars instead oneHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elizabeth M.Manhattan, New York, NY02827May 28, 2023
Celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here! This place was absolutely amazing! Delicious food and great service! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The scallops wrapped with bacon were outstanding! Lots of different drink choices too! Never had it before but I tried the creamsicle cocktail and it was very good! The atmosphere of the whole place was very inviting and romantic. It truly was a great spot for our anniversary especially since the whole experience overall was what made it so special. So if you're in the area this is definitely the place to be. Whether it be for some good drinks, a nice dinner or even if you want to share some appetizers. BHR is definitely a good place to go!

We tried Bernie's based on reviews and they lived up to their hype. We started with a half dozen oysters and they were chucked nicely and tasted delicious. My husband and I shared the porterhouse special for 2. This could have easily fed 3 people. Staff was very nice and attentive. Food was delicious and can't wait to come back.

Not many couples are blessed with a 60 year wedding anniversary, and we were looking for something special to celebrate. Oysters on the half shell...superb, clams steamed in wine/butter superb, surf and turf..superb. all served by Lisa, who was perfect.

Sadly the property and restaurant went by the way of the orthodox community. What a sad situation

Came from out of town to this place for my boyfriends 30th birthday. We were both pretty excited to try it and left really disappointed.
The drinks that claimed to be spicy were way too sweet. The waygu steak tasted like a regular steak which if you've had waygu it cuts and tastes like butter. Unfortunately we paid for overpriced waygu and I called ahead twice to make sure that candles or some sort of birthday celebration was possible and we ordered dessert so that it could be done but we received nothing but disappointment. I really thought this place was going to be great but it really was disappointing. The food isn't terrible but it isn't worth the price you pay when you're thinking you're getting premium quality.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
