Do you guys still have a lunch buffet?

As of today, they have not reinstated the great lunch buffet, although I think they might try it again.

Great Indian cuisine and excellent service/staff. BayLeaf and Marty's pizza are the two bright spots in the Maplewood/South Orange dining scene. The rest of the area is kind of a joke (I guess Ariyoshi Japanese restaurant is pretty good, too).
If BayLeaf's naan and roti were human I would be romantically attracted to them. Mango chutney completes the ménage à trois.
So, yeah, BayLeaf is pretty tastyHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard A.New York, NY6552Dec 10, 2023
Odd experience... ordered online, all went through without a problem, until I was preparing to go pick up my order and I got a message that my previously authorized order had been cancelled. Eager to resolve the matter quickly, I followed the instruction to telephone the restaurant but all my attempts to reach them went into some weird voicemail system.
If anyone can recommend an alternative location for indian/south Asian food, i am all earsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 2 - 159512694342Apr 3, 2023Updated review
This weekend, a friend of ours took us out to dinner and treated us to an amazing meal at BayLeaf. This was my first time dining in at the restaurant on SO Avenue in South Orange. We had a lovely time with delicious Indian food, chill atmosphere, and friendly service.
BayLeaf is our go-to takeout spot for Indian. It was so nice being able to experience what it's like to dine in. There are a variety of diners who were there - from groups of 4-5, couples, and lone diners as well. The space feels very intimate but you have privacy to carry on conversation with your companions.
I didn't snap food pics of our dine-in meal, but this is what our table ordered (all recommended!)
- saag paneer
- channa masala
- paneer tikka masala
- kolhapuri chicken
- garlic naan
- roti with mango chutney and red onion chutneyHelpful 14Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0Sep 5, 2022Previous reviewLast night, I ordered from Bayleaf through the Yelp app/GrubHub. I'd heard good things about Bayleaf from friends, and recently my partner dined in there and loved it. It was too late to dine in, so we ordered takeout instead.
Very pleased with our order! The food was flavorful and still kept by the time we got home. I'm looking forward to going there for a sit down meal in the future. Here's what we ordered (all recommended - get that garlic naan!)
- Vegetable Samosa (shared - one for each)
- Assorted Veg Pakoda (shared - they come with chutneys)
- Saag Paneer (my partner's order)
- Malai Kofta (this was my order)
- Garlic Naan (2 orders - I dipped the naan in the malai kofta sauce - so good!)
Takeout Tip: You may want to ask for extra rice. Unless you go the naan route like we did. The rice containers were kind of small. - 17152225Oct 22, 2023
Lovely local Indian food place in South Orange! We stopped by on a Sunday night and got seated right away. The waitstaff were prompt and nice. We ordered the chicken samosas, chicken curry, butter chicken, and garlic naan! Everything was scrumptious, came out hot and the flavors and spices were great! The interior decor was simple and elegant, with white table clothes, nice silverware and glasses, and good napkins. Good, fair prices too.

I love going to Bayleaf, service is always good and the restaurant is very clean and warm inside. I like that I can eat and not feel rushed some of my go to and favorite dishes are the chicken 69, the mango lassi, lamb saag, and garlic cheese Naan.

Bayleaf has some negative person dealing with customers who has no listening skills or customer care. I ordered on their bayleafnj site and when I called the person who answered said that my order was for pickup only. When corrected that I had indeed selected delivery, added my address and whatnot, the guy was rude and dismissive. The facts are that the business website allowed me to select delivery with no mention of a minimum. Rather than saying anything along the lines of "Apologies for our site error. The minimum actually is ($) could you please order more or we will need to cancel the order" or anything true and professional, Instead this person lied and said they didn't have a delivery driver! Pure Lie. He was literally about to hang up without any resolution attempt when I asked for a refund with this crude person but I HAVE YET TO SEE THE REFUND OR THE CONFIRMATION THAT THE ORDER WAS EVEN CANCELLED. There's more to the disrespect but I'm abridging the story if you can believe it. Having a business outright lie to me to deny basic accountability is majorly off-putting. This is not energy I want around my meal.
If you want quality Indian cuisine nearby, redirect your attention to JALWA IN MONTCLAIR. I've ordered from them and time after time the food has been delicious, flavorful, and generous. JALWA has the ABSOLUTE BEST VEGETABLE KORMA I'VE HAD ANYWHERE. My advice: Go there instead. Bayleaf feels like gentrified, westernized impression of Indian (not very redefined. More the growing status quo) And after dealing with their staff I'm sure my money is better invested in a place that respects their customer and is a good place to eat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andres A.Nutley, NJ20540Jan 6, 2024
This place was fabulous went for lunch on a Sunday table for 3. Had Clinton Chili Lamb was so flavorful and good, chicken Tula masala was one of the best I have had! The Riata was perfectly thick and tasty! The Naan selection was incredible we got a Chili Garlic Naan and some sort of Cherry Naan it was sweet! The restaurant is cozy and well appointed, the service was first class!! I will be going again!!!

On the Bayleaf website I clicked on the order tab since I planned to pick up my order since i was in South Orange. It all went very wrong. When I saw the service and delivery charge, I thought I cancelled the order out. And I never gave them my credit card info. So I called the restaurant, ordered phone and picked up the food. When I got home (in another town), my wife showed me that the order tab food was actually DELIVERED to my house. So we got two orders instead of one. The delivered food was over dry and very spicy even though I ordered mild spice. The food I picked up at the restaurant was OK, but not excellent.
