About the Business
Established in 1879. For over 130 years, Barringer's has been a part of the Indianapolis community. At one point, there used to be a bathhouse, a barber's chair, a bowling alley, a farmers market and a boarding house located on the property. Barringer's was the last stop on the trolley line going South out of Indianapolis, so it was people's last chance to get something to eat or drink, which is why there was and is a "Last Chance" sign in the window out front. During the prohibition, Barringer's stayed in business by selling ice cream and candy, as well as lunch and dinner. There is a back window with a slot that opens, where it is rumored people could get illegal alcohol. Al Capone was even rumored to have dined at Barringer's on occasion. In the back of the lot was a pond with live turtles used for making fresh turtle soup! Barringer's was also well known for pig's feet. In 1942 Barringer's sold 96,508 pig's feet to its customers!

Barringer's was a great experience. It was recommended to us by our friend's older brother and we had a blast. Ate a ton of food, affordable beer pitchers, and the size of the food is massive. I ate two pizzas and ordered wings and a sandwich and I was not ready. I definitely ate the food the next day!
Also, the vibe of the place is really cool. Especially that they've been open since 1870. The backroom has shuffle board, darts, and billiards. Plus TVs for March madness. Totally great time!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Stopped in for a work happy hour, it's a great location, very friendly staff.
They have a nice selection of drinks! Beer and cocktails.
We sat at a nice big table, and enjoyed music and conversation.
We also got food, the pizza was so tasty! We also had onion rings and cheese curds, both were also good.
Great place on the southside! Check them out if you are in the area.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 1Business owner information

Jun 8, 2023Previous reviewSince this location is close to my office, I decided to actually take a lunch and get away for a bit.
I was able to get right in and sit at the bar, service is great! Friendly and prompt.
The inside is fun to look at, there are some old school indy pieces around and as a history fan, I love it.
For lunch I decided on a blt with a Cesar salad, both were delicious!
If you are in the area, check this place out! Prices are very reasonable and you get generous portions of food!Dec 16, 2020Previous reviewSo freaking good! I wish I lived closer to this place, I love the family atmosphere and the history behind it. Barringers is filled with old racing pictures and other items that are always fun to check out.
They also keep a great selection of games going on the tv so there is something to watch.
When the weather is nice make sure that you check out the back garden/patio area it is well maintained and if you live in Indiana you know how important it is to enjoy the nice weather while you can.
I love bloody Mary's so I always try to get one when I visit and they make them just the way I like, spicy but not runny nose spicy.
The menu isn't massive, but that's a good thing because it speaks to the freshness, during my last visit I decided to go with the special which was a pulled pork wrap and I got some fries with it. Delicious and I certainly was not disappointed in my choice. One of my favorites and a place that I will keep coming back to.Aug 25, 2019Previous reviewSurprisingly I had been across the street from this Tavern but didn't realize it, a friend who knows how much I enjoy checking out new places to eat mentioned it, and then invited me down to have dinner.
The inside is split into a bar and then family style seating on the other, we ended up on the family side, with plenty of tables and chairs that people move around to accommodate their groups. The service is great! Quick and attentive. There is also and arcade in the back with pool, ski ball, pinball and pac man.
We had a bucket of mic ultra, and started with the Southport pepper jack balls which are fried cheesy deliciousness with a side of ranch, because this is the Midwest after all.
For my main course I had the Hoosier sandwich which is a breaded tenderloin (you have the option for grilled) with all the fixings and then some waffle fries.
Overall the food was tasty, and you can tell that they clean the fryer, although my food was fried it didn't taste other food. I'll go back! Seems like the perfect place to watch games. - Deb R.Greenwood, IN31394106Jan 14, 2024
This is what many would refer to as a dive bar.
It's history is very interesting and impressive.
It definitely needs some cleaning and updates.
John Taffer could surely assist.
We went for lunch recently.
The service was just average and the food was below average. It was not busy but the food took a very long time to arrive. We didn't order anything complicated. My fries were cold.
They were not good as well. The rest of the food was not very desirable.
I heard their pizza was decent, but we did not order it.
My burger reuben patty melt was not good as well. It was super greasy and the burger was too thick, flavorless and tough.
I only ate half of it and it sat super heavy in my stomach like a rock the entire day.
I didn't eat anything the rest of the day. It was messing with me the following day too.
The bathrooms were not very clean and there was a rough odor which appeared to be coming from the plumbing.
I tend to rate places by the shape of their bathrooms. I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like.
There's no reason not to keep things clean. Many of the tables around us were not bussed and cleaned as well.
The health department would definitely appreciate this being up to specs too.
I won't be going back.
I need satisfaction from all angles when I go to a place to dine. As much as they charge for food when going out (even dive bars and fast food), I expect quality and comfort. It's all part of the total and acceptable dining experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Love this little local gem! We found this place. Few years ago and always love the times we visit. Their burgers are amazing and the pizza is pretty great too. They have a steak dinner special one day a week that is a heck of a deal. Nothing fancy about Barringer's, but the food is top notch and the staff have always been very friendly.

Nov 17, 2021Previous reviewI had no idea this place existed until seeing it on a food delivery app during stay at home orders last year. I have now been there several times in person and absolutely love it. It is definitely not a fancy place and more like a old neighborhood bar. But, has a ton of history and some really great food and really great prices!

I've been here a few times now for lunch. Standard tavern/bar food. Order the wings or tenderloin or pizza. I got the saddest steak sandwich last time so I will be avoiding that in the future.
Staff is great. Great prices. Check 'em out.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Our Cacklin' Chicks went there on Wednesday for lunch. We had the Baked Spaghetti salad and garlic bread. Delicious! Service was great! They give you a huge amount of food. We all want to return to try the pizza, fish and other items we saw pass us by while we were eating.

We set out looking for a local spot that has great food that we would be able to spend the evening at and were so happy to have found that in Barringer's tavern. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and loved the overall feel of the establishment. The tavern has a 140 year history and we could immediately see why! It has a unique style with endless retro decor while still being updated and very clean.
In addition to the great tavern feel, they also have great food and drinks. We shared pizza, a burger, and the south village chislic and loved each item. They also offer a full bar with fantastic bartenders.
In addition to great food and company, Barringer's offers a game room and outdoor patio that frequently has live music. We spent our entire evening here and truly enjoyed our experience. If you're looking for a local Indy establishment that has fantastic history, food, and service, head to Barringer's tavern. We will certainly be returning!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information
