This review is solely for those who wish to purchase a cake for an event. This is the worst bakery item I have ever purchased in my life.
I ordered a 6inch "boujee" Oreo cake. The fee was $35.00. I was told I needed to wait an hour after I left the store before it could be eaten otherwise I should place it in a fridge. I cut the first piece and I was so shocked by how dry and tasteless the cake was, I thought they had mistakenly given me a vegan cake. (I've known some bakeries to fail on their vegan options.) I apologized to the birthday girl. I couldn't believe an actual bakery could mess up on a chocolate cake with Oreo frosting. I literally could have just made a box cake mix.
My level of disappointment jumped when I called the bakery to inquire if I was given an incorrect cake. They told me it was the right cake. I asked if their cakes were normally this dry and tasteless or if it was an error. (I asked nicely and I was providing them with an open to explain how common this was). The employee I spoke to on the phone said she doesn't know what the bakery items taste like because she's never had anything.
I honestly would rather I lost $35 than have given it to a bakery that doesn't care about their reputation. The cake was so bad we literally threw it in the garbage. We even tried to microwave our slices in the microwave with a cup of water to try to add some moisture. Such a mess.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Diana T.Allston/Brighton, Boston, MA1951799Nov 30, 2020
I ordered a dozen cupcakes and a pecan pie for Thanksgiving. Let me start off by saying that the cupcakes are so good! I love that this bakery has a rotating menu and flavors change daily. My favorite cupcake was the carrot cake, which had raisins in it. This may be a dealbreaker for some people but I loved every bite of it!
The reason I'm giving this bakery 3 stars is because my pecan pie was burnt. I ended up tossing it out after trying a slice. Maybe just stick to the cupcakes?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Barbara K.Boston, MA45173916Feb 13, 2022
Have never visited this place myself in person but I have got plenty of their treats as gifts from others and it's always so yummy

No sure what is worse, the ice cream that's been in the freezer for 3 years or the cup cakes that have been in the case for 3 weeks. If you threw one of these cupcakes at the wall you would create a hole in it. Stinks that you have to give at least one star to post a review.

I'm so conflicted about this review.
I loved babycakes enough to order dozens for my wedding back in 2017. Their signature baby cake, banana chocolate, and french toast were absolute favorites and kept me going back for years.
However, my recent two visits left me wanting for more. The old favorites definitely did not taste the same. From reading other reviews, it seems like the recipes are supposed to be the same under the new management. But unfortunately nothing I tried tasted the same. Even worse, some of the cakes were dry and lacking in flavor.
I will still go back because this is a local shop I want to love and support! Hoping for a better cupcake in my future.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aisha S.Stockton, CA4329271Jun 26, 2020
A+ customer service hands down!
I wanted to purchase a gift card/certificate (GC) for my coworker who lives in the area (it's her birthday). I live in CA so, obvi, couldn't stop in to purchase anything. I called Babycakes and they gave me options on how to get the GC to my coworker and were super helpful and courteous in taking down my information, sharing prices so I could gauge what dollar amount GC I wanted to purchase, and just made the cross-country transaction super smooth and comfortable.
Thanks, Babycakes! I'll be sure to stop in next time I find myself in the area!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jessica N.Quincy, MA24115266Nov 22, 2019Updated review
I love babycakes! This place will always leave you satisfied when you are looking for just a quick dessert that hits the spot after a meal. Yes, I am suggesting that you get some and leave it in the fridge for the next day, you will be so happy that you have a decadent, moist and rich cupcake waiting for you. My favorite is the babycake and the german chocolate (although, I haven't seen it in a while). The frosting on these are not too sweet and not too "airy" you feel super cozy and fuzzy when you have a bite.
Seriously, they are amazing. Go now. #NoRegrets.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 17, 2016Previous reviewBabycakes is so amazing, that it's probably the only place i actually go to buy cupcakes. I like the twist that they have here on particular flavors, my favorite is the german chocolate cupcake. I literally have no idea why other cupcake places dont do it the way babycakes does. Its not frosting, its just literally cocconutty sticky sweet heaven.
Honestly, If you're in wollaston and craving something on the sweeter side, definitely check babycakes out. They do close early so make sure to be the early bird! - A R.East Village, San Diego, CA416654Nov 23, 2020
Baby cakes is awesome. Yeah, if you walk in without calling before you're pickings are slim, but that's only because people swoop up the good stuff by calling in their orders. I've been here 3 times now. The first time I got lucky and picked up a cupcake (they only had one left) at closing. It was amazing. The chocolate ganache is amazing.

I, unfortunately, hold every baker up to the standards of what I, myself, can bake. Maybe I should open my own shop....
Babycakes is non-descript from the outside. I doubt I'd ever notice it there is I wasn't looking for it, and inside it's quaint and cute. The owner was slaving away in the back but came in to place my order...
I am taking an entire weekend to write this review.. why? Because I bought six cupcakes and I'm not eating them all in one shot... but, here's what I thought of all six:
Chocolate Vanilla (Choc cake, vanilla frosting) - the chocolate cake was pretty moist. Not as moist as say... MY chocolate cake, but then, I have a few special secrets... but still, I go into chocolate cake expecting it to be dry and this was not. The frosting rounding it of nicely. It was rich and buttery, but it could have been a little lighter in the texture department (mind you, I'm horrid with frosting, I'm comparing it, instead, to Sweet of Worcester).
Strawberry Shortcake: I found the vanilla cake on this to be dry. But the strawberries were fresh and delicious. Also, I didn't realize this was topped with whipped cream and not butter-cream like the rest (though it makes some sense). By the time the cake got to room temp the whipped cream was all melty.
Cappuccino: The cake is actually a meringue cake, I think. It was pretty tasty. The frosting on this one was my favorite.
Chocolate Strawberry: The chocolate covered strawberry on top was only a half of a strawberry. The filling was decent... I am a huge fan of chocolate and strawberry and this was good but not great.
Peanut Butter Cup: The chocolate cake wasn't as moist as I'd like, but the peanut butter frosting was superb.
Babycake: Meh. For a signature cake it didn't leave much of an impression. Reminded me of one of those Hostess cupcakes, you know, the chocolate one with the white swirlies on top? Only, instead of swirlies, it says babycake in cursive. The chef highly recommended I added this cake as one of my variety of six and I think I liked it least of all.
And that's it. They also had this interesting looking french toast cupcake that I did not try but would like to have. Perhaps if I'm in Quincy for another purpose I'll give it a go.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
