Fish is very fresh and very delicious, definitely recommend. Service was very exceptional too. The portion is very large.

Absolutely adore this place. My friends and I love the Pickle Fish Soup and were on a hunt for more restaurants specializing in this dish.
The portions were large and at a good price. Definitely get the combo deal.
The soup was tasty and flavorful. The fish tasted fresh. We ordered a bunch of sides which complimented the meal.
The restaurant is situated in the same complex as the H-Mart. Inside is a little cozy and limited seating. I've gone when the restaurant opens, so haven't encountered any wait.
The server was very helpful and patient as we perused the menu, wanting to order EVERYTHING. Food came out fast. Once it's out, the servers don't really come back, but the space is so cozy, it wasn't hard to get their attention.
If you're into gizzards, I definitely recommend ordering that. It was quite the delicious surprise.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 2024
Service is bad, keep your expectations low when coming. The first time we tried to dine here, they turned us away 30 mins before closing time. This time, they made us move tables after ordering because they wanted to accommodate a larger party. Nothing outrageous, just not a common experience. There's also only one waitress, so expect to wait longer for service especially when it gets busy. Tables are super close together and can barely squeeze by without my butt getting uncomfortably close to the other table's food.
Fried milk custard was not bad, slightly sweet, kind of greasy
Spicy sour fern starch noodles were not sour or spicy at all, and were actually sweet, which was disappointing. The noodles were nice and bouncy.
The fish soup was awesome, I've been craving sauerkraut fish soup ever since having it for the first time in New York. It wasn't uncomfortably spicy, and the combo for 2 came with 2 toppings and 2 sides, which I thought was well priced. I would definitely come back for it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 29, 20242 check-ins
It's an unorthodox location for this type of cuisine, but it works. It's a rather small location, but the lighting makes the place a bit larger than usual as it spotlights the huge bowl in the middle.
The $60 option for two people is plenty of food as it contains the big bowl with fish and two toppings and then two appetizer items. It's quite filling.
I recommend the spicy chicken appetizer and the crispy wings.
Add more protein in the mix and you will leave full!
The service is good and doesn't require a lot of attention. They bring the food to you and it is all yours to devour. So far, everyone that I had the pleasure of serving us has been nice and down to earth. Never felt rushed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dr. Michael P.South Pasadena, CA8016358Apr 21, 2024
Think you can handle some spice? Want to eat something healthy? Haven't needed to use Google Translate in the US before (mostly kidding, the server understood us just fine.)
Bring at least 2 hungry friends and drive all the way out to Gaithersburg! We drove 20' here from the hotel but for all the amazing Asian food we can eat in LA, they we don't have this delicious fish soup. It is rare and special to experience totally new cuisine.
Looks like we'd have to go to fly to Sichuan, Dallas, or Flushing to eat this elsewhere.
Plentiful, free parking in the public lot. Small restaurant. No reservations.
Their fresh watermelon juice perfectly complements the spicy soup (they have regular & numbing...can only imagine how spicy that is...almost ordered it but worried that I might regret it in the morning...apologies that's TMI.)
ORDER their delicious milk mochi dessert.
Cannot wait to eat here again next time we're in DC/MD.
Cheers & Happy Eating!

We tried some small dishes
4*Pickled Chicken Gizzard爽口鸡胗: pretty good.
5*Housemade Fried Milk Custard
手作炸鲜奶: we ate it while it was still warm. I really liked it, I will definitely order it again.
4.5*Spiced Chicken with Chili Sauce
椒麻鸡: the Sauce was delicious, and peanuts were crunchy, the left over chicken tasted even better the next dayHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 26, 2023Previous reviewIt's a small eatery of only eight tables. The fish is farm raised and very fresh. It's known for fish pot. The prices were higher than other Chinese restaurants. The service was good.
We ordered:
4*Fish pot combo酸菜鱼, there were three flavors to choose from: we went for Classic Spicy Sour. The fish soup was very tasty! It was really good; the portion looked very big, but didn't feel so after digging in.
5*Sweet Rice Stuffed Lotus Root
桂花糖藕: very good, sticky and mildly sweet.
4*Housemade Sticky Rice Cake
手作红糖糍粑: the sauce was good, and rice cakes were fried golden.
3*Fried Chicken Wings 小二哥爱炸鸡翅: the usual, nothing special, served with cumin powder and sauce.
3*Crispy Fried Pork Belly小酥肉: fried, served with cumin powder - Dec 31, 2023
Quality of food is pretty good. The downside is they only offer one type of fish. It's a better deal to order the combo if you are with a group. They don't really have many add-ins complimentary so make sure to add your own.
The preserved egg dish and fried steamed buns were good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 271200274Dec 19, 2023
Finally got to try the infamous Sichuan fish soup! My party and I were able to get a reservation same day on a Friday afternoon. We got the classic spicy and sour fish soup, sticky rice cake, Kou Shui Ji chicken, and milk mochi. All were so so good! Service was also fast and efficient. Highly recommend checking B2J out if you're looking for legit and authentic Sichuan food in Rockville.
