My Mom has been wanting to come here for awhile ever since she saw their commercial on tv (You know how viet people are with their tv's and asian food commercials...my Mom happens to be a sucker for them! lol), so we finally took her there. ( It is located in the Catina Plaza, just a few shops -left- from Hong Mai Restaurant!)
What we ordered:
-Canh Chua Ca (Vietnamese sweet & sour soup with fish - I think it's called? lol anyways...If you know what it's called, I'd love to know what the translation is.)
The ingredients were pretty fresh, BUT GET THIS - THE FISH PORTION SUCKS! I'll post a picture so you can see. LItterally...you get a single "filet" in the entire soup.
-Ca Kho (Caramel Fish) : The portions were MUCH better. lol It actually came in 2 good-sized portion fish. This was actually my favorite! The flavors were surprisingly good and the fish were actually moist! This dish alone may be the only reason that might make me contemplate on coming back...maybe.
Service:
Seeing that this place was very empty, i'll be nice and say it was just "okay". HOWEVER, I was very disappointed in the service when they brought out our Canh Chua. This was a supposed to be a meal for two - yet they only put 1 small filet of fish! The Waitress and even the cook pissed me off when they had the nerve to tell me that it is a portion fit for TWO people. (Haha, seriously, check out my pic on the single filet of fish we got in the entire soup...tell me if it's enough for 2 people! I think you'll have a nice laugh with me. haha)
Price:
Pretty cheap and reasonable. Our whole meal was about $17 and it came with free Soda for their promotion.
Side Comment:
They say their most popular dishes are the Canh bun or Bun Ca. From the previous review on here from Missy N., i'd say i'd agree with her. It's probably not even worth ordering. Aside from my distaste in my first visit with their service, I may or may not visit them again. My Mom seemed to like it, so I might come back just for her.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Missy N.Santa Ana, CA9180453Feb 8, 2013First to Review
Heard about this place on the radio so we decided to give them a try.
It's a small little cute place. Clean and new.
Specialties are different types of bun.
My friend tried the Canh bun and I had the Bun Ca.
Canh bun was mediocre.
My bun ca was not happening...At all!!!
There was no fresh fish. Just some fried fish balls and some cha ca. Broth was bland.
There was this older couple eating next to us and I overheard them saying the same.
"So bland!"
We had 2 ice teas with our meals. Bill came out to $15 .
I'm giving them 3 stars simply because it's clean and the young waitress was very friendly.
Hate to say but I won't be back here again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
