Avennia

This is a tasting room with tastings only. No wine is poured by the glass. On some weekends, they have cheese plates. The staff was friendly, but very little information was given about the wine aside from a basic description. This would be a 4-star review based on the wine quality, which is delicious, but the atmosphere is a bit stuffy. This is for a quick visit, not to spend time lingering over wines.

I love Avennia wines! They use a lot of Red Mountain vineyards (and recently purchased their own!) so you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Some of my favorite wines are the Gravura (a GSM) and the Valery (a Bordeaux blend with cab franc).

For whites, they offer a rose, sauv blanc, and another white blend called La Pearle - which is by far my favorite of the whites! It's also a really unique white that you can age for up to 10 years, so if you aren't a heavy white wine drinker, you can fear not by keeping it on hand!

The location in Woodinville is just a tasting room, so no glasses of wine can be purchased here, but you can buy bottles. It's a nice location near the Hampton inn for people staying from out of town.

Avennia is a conundrum to me.

They source from some of the best vineyards in the state - Red Willow, Boushey, Heart of the Hill, etc. The wine itself is good, but for my personal palette, underperforms relative to other wineries that source from the same vineyards (like Kiona, Delille, etc). But again, wine is a personal thing and perhaps my tastes are simply not tuned to Avennia's style. You might disagree, and that's ok.

All that said, on the service side of the house, the tasting environment is sterile and full of itself. Their pourers do not come across as humble, pleasant, or anything like that. The use of white granite, while it allows you to get a good idea of the wine's color, is off-putting. I feel like I don't belong here, and that's odd because wine is a passion of my wife and I, and we are not afraid to put serious money down on bottles we like.

We once brought home a bottle of Avennia's Boushey syrah, and it was clearly corked. I've had that happen a total of 2 times across my lifetime - one was from one of our favorite winemakers from whom we buy a lot of wine (and thus it's not surprising it would happen eventually), and the other was here.

For me, Avennia is a hard pass... but obviously people love them as they're doing quite well and are on restaurant menus all over the region. I leave it to you to figure out which side of the fence you're on.

If you want great tasting wine then this is the place. I've been in a few times and have been treated very well every time. The area is bright, spacious, and welcoming. Must be a hidden gem because it's never overly crowded.

Walked in at 4:40pm. They wouldn't seat us for a tasting as they closed at 5:00pm. Worst tasting room attitude I've experienced in Woodinville.
Won't attempt to visit again. And, won't recommend either.

Great location. It's in the parking lot of Hampton Inns, we didn't have a reservation but they were able to squeeze us in for a tasting. This is where the 3 stars come from. We ordered 1 taster, which we do at most places. Our size of the samples were so small that is was almost disrespectful. We split our samples and it was barely enough to move around the glass of each of us. We only liked one wine, so we bought a bottle. But I do appreciate that we got a place to try the wines, even if they were tiny portions. I think they gave us tiny portions because we didn't have reservations, so they could get us out of there quick. Our in and out time was close to 15 minutes.

We didn't make it to the new tasting room, but we went to the older place further up. It was a big space, and not as fancy. Not upgraded like the newer space.

Along with tastings, we had attended the Ethan Stowell piggy event. We queued up in line and had a plate of piggy and fixings, to go along with the wine. We didn't make any purchases and I think they might need to be kept for a little bit to really enjoy them, but I thought this was a super fun event.

The tasting room is super cute but the wines were average. My friends and I went around 3 pm on a weekday and it was empty. The guy working was super nice. Overall, I would recommend going to a different place for some good wine.

Top quality wine the staff was friendly overall everything was enjoyable. There is a strip of other tasting rooms this was by far the best one.

Warm wood finish to this new wine tasting room. We were the only ones there so we had their attention.

Both gentlemen were very knowledgeable. I don't drink whites and I found their red wines still too young to be fully appreciated. 100% cabernet at $95.

I would recommend their wines if you are looking to keep their wines for a few more years.
