This is the cheapest place to stay for your trip. It's Free! Just bring your own sleeping bag, bug spray, machete, gattling gun, bubonic plague vaccination, and you are good to go!
Those of you looking to start a ghost investigation crew, be sure to pack heavy in this gang infested area littered with spray-paint can happy losers.

3/1/2016Loved this place! Stayed in November of 2015. There seemed to be no one at the front desk and most of the rooms were boarded up. Desperate for some sleep, I wandered down the row, turning door knobs along the way. Finally (Rm 112) I found a door that was unlocked and not boarded up. Although the lights didn't work I was wearing my headlamp so that wasn't really a problem. Sitting down on the edge of the unmade bed to remove my shoes, I began to sense that I was not alone in the room. Turning, I was immediately alarmed to see that somebody else was asleep on the other side of the king bed! Or so I thought! Closer inspection revealed that this woman had been "asleep" for quite awhile - perhaps 2 or 3 years! (Long enough that she was pretty thoroughly mummified and didn't give off much of an odor. The dry, desiccating air of the Mojave will do that to a body.)
Gathering myself, I realized that it wouldn't do much harm to lay down and catch a few "zzz's". I wanted to get an early start the next morning anyway and I was pretty sure I wouldn't have to worry about being tempted to wait around for the continental breakfast. (Ha, Ha!)
The mattress proved comfy and the toilet seemed to work (although there was no water in it - "Hello- we're in the middle of the desert, for cryin' out loud!")
I've stayed in better, but if you're in the middle of the Mojave and bone tired this place will work! - Sarah W.Rancho Santa Margarita, CA76267551
4/25/2011I'd like to tell you a little story about this terrifying place-
In 2006, I moved from Northwest Indiana to Palm Springs for my job. Since I did not have much stuff, I just loaded up my jeep and drove across the country. I planned to do it in 2 days, but on the first day, I left later than I planned(hard to say goodbye!) and only made it to Lexington, Nebraska. I got up early on Day 2 and drove all day. 18 hours later, I'd just passed Vegas and was pretty tired. I saw signs for Baker and the World's Largest Thermometer, so I was optimistic about the lodging possibilities!
I pulled off the freeway and found I only had one option- Arne's Royal Hawaiian Motel. It looked very "Bates Motel" as the previous reviewer mentioned, but I had no other options. I should have either stopped in Las Vegas an hour earlier or just driven the last 3 hours to Palm Springs. But I didn't. I was young and stupid.
Let me tell you about the lovely accomodations I had for a mere $50!
- The "bed" was a mattress on the floor. No other furniture in the room except a tv hung from the wall.
- Blue shag carpetting that went from the floor right up the wall and to the ceiling. Yes. Every surface except the ceiling was covered in this carpet.
- A pile of someone else's clothes in the corner!
- TV turned on with a light switch and only got one channel(which at one point in the evening showed a Law and Order episode about a girl who gets murdered in a hotel room).
- The shower stall was so moldy/mildewy that when I stepped into it, the floor sank down(I wore flip flops!). No hot water.
- I also noticed in the morning that the small window in the bathroom had no glass or even curtains. It was just an open hole to the outside.
Needless to say, I did not get much sleep. I don't even recall getting inside the blankets/sheets on the bed, I think I just slept on top. What a nightmare!!! So happy to hear it is now closed. - Mark H.Los Angeles, CA15473
6/21/2011I stayed here one night when I moved to Los Angeles in 2005. There were beetles of some kind in the bathroom, but thankfully nothing in the bed. The AC worked fine, but it seems that I got lucky there. I think I must have gotten one of the larger rooms for only $50. Before falling asleep to the news of Hurricane Katrina, I just stared at the inside of the door from under the covers, expecting it to crash open before some kind of Texas-Chainsaw-type event ensued. Why did I stay here? Was it the only game in town? What was so bad about the back seat of my car?
I recently drove through Baker on a trip to Vegas and saw its shell still standing. I actually felt sorry for the beast. - General C.Los Angeles, CA4663129
12/23/2010This place is closed now, but it's a fun place to take pictures. Be sure to note the hand-painted palm trees in the rooms (which are visible because all the room doors are open).

1/5/2009It's hard to believe those 3 stars other people gave!! This hotel is NOTHING like Motel 6! And not only the pool is sad looking!
I've posted some pictures to explain what I am talking about.
We were on a road trip and decided to sleep in Baker. There were two options: Wills Fargo Hotel and Arne's Hawaiian Hotel. Both looking pretty bad, we decided on the second one, just because they had the bed we wanted. When we entered our room, it was smelling like mold. Then the heater was not working. Everything else looked pretty bad. We decided to change rooms.
Second room wasn't as smelly, the TV was better and the heater was working pretty well. However, the lack of conservation of the room made me want to cry...lol...water leaking marks in the ceiling (see picture), the furniture was very old, the carpet was very dirty (didn't take my shoes off!), the bathroom was a disaster (see pictures). The shower was clogged and the bathtub, all rusty. Oh, well.
All this for 59 bucks a night. The wireless Internet could not reach our room, the image on the TV was really bad, there was no coffee & donuts for breakfast. Seriously, 59 bucks is waaaay too expensive for that.
The only "Hawaiian" things I saw there were the old and ugly curtain and comforter. Not a little bit close to the cosy and neat 70 buck room I stayed in Hawaii last year.
The only thing I agree with the 2 other fellows that wrote about it before me is that you're only staying in Baker because you're too tired to drive somewhere else. - Philip K.Portland, OR7020445
8/5/2008First to ReviewFor $59 it's not a bad deal. Everything worked, thankfully the AC did pretty well. I actually woke up cold. The pool is sad looking, but maybe it works.
But really, if you're staying in Baker, it's not because you want to.
