We met friends for a picnic by the lake on the north side of the park. Seems to be a good spot for sunset photo shoots because we saw at least three photographers with families. The trail we walked on was not paved and was just a path worn in the dirt from foot traffic. We had initially thought of bringing a wagon to cart in the chairs, food and drinks, but am glad we didn't. That would not have been feasible on the ruddy, uneven dirt paths that incline to go down to the lake. It was extremely windy but we still had a great time and the kids enjoyed running around. We didn't experience the bug swarms other reviewers talked about, probably due to the wind.
We will come back to check out the longer walking trails with our dog. May also come back to go camping, so I'll give an updated review then.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Crystal G.Oklahoma City, OK28026Jul 2, 2023
Great lake for family fun. The Scissortail camp site is shaded and close to the water. Water is beautiful and not crowded.

My first fishing experience and 2nd time to the lake. I found it to be a series positives and negatives hence the 3 star rating. I went there to fish. They have a heated and enclosed fishing dock which I enjoyed since it was 37° and windy. I spent 4 hours getting my line wet without a fish. Maybe next time. As they say...always better than good day at work.
I did see about a dozen crappie taken by others. They were 10" and smaller so disappointed in the size for near spawning season. The enclosed dock is fairly well maintained considering the traffic. The bathrooms, however, not so much. The urinal flushed but there was no running sink water. Hmm. No soap. Good thing I always have hand sanitizer. I get that it's a campground, but I expected soap and water. I'll remember to bring my own next time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 26, 2016Updated review
While I'm still not a huge fan of the place I do like it better in the cooler months when there is less bug activity. I'm thankful I don't live in another country where spiders are 20x the size of the ones here lol.
I never fish inside. I don't care if it's 38 degrees outside with 15mph winds. I'm just not interested in fishing in there. I like the dock and I've caught tons of crappie and a nice channel kitty here. I'm more into trout fishing but I am excited for the up and coming months when the crappie are bigger and biting is nonstop.
When it's cold and windy it can be challenging but I still enjoy myself 9/10 times.
The bathrooms are not as well maintained as before. No running water in the sink - faucet is broken. That is just pathetic. Fix that, maintain the cleanliness of the inside dock house and maybe in a few months my rating will go up. I'm there once a week now so it would be nice to see some improvements.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 25, 2014Previous reviewI had no issues with the gate attendant as many others seem to, however the poor maintenance of the fishing dock drove me away from here in a heartbeat.
Nobody I saw that day caught one fish, spiders and bugs here were just insane. They are everywhere. At first I felt embarrassed cause they freaked me out big time, but when grown men and commenting and running for cover, something has to be done.
I've been to other areas which have bugs, but Lake Arcadia takes the win for the worst maintained fishing spots I've been to.
For me, the above issues offered zero incentive to ever return here. My boyfriend had no real complaints but after hours of being bit, having two inch spiders jumping on me and NO fish at all...I was done.
Bathrooms were clean and no issues with the staff there so two stars.
Come to Norman and check out Lake Thunderbird, it is 10x better. Caught fish in less than a hour with over 100 bites and it was peaceful, no spiders crawling on me, no being bit my mosquito swarms and the boating and camping spots there look decent. - Emm S.Yukon, OK96180854Nov 5, 2016
It's been years since I've been camping because I like my bed and running water, but I wouldn't mind camping here. I like how all the camp sites are separated and each one has a parking spot, a little designated area to set up camp, a fire pit and a grill. The pavilions are wheelchair accessible and even many of the camp sites that I saw wouldn't be too hard for someone in a wheelchair.
It was quiet and peaceful. Not a lot of traffic driving around or loud people. It looked clean; I only saw a few pieces of trash that had obviously just blown out of the trash can. The restroom was ok. It had spider webs and things like that but it's at a lake so I didn't expect it to be a 5 star bathroom.
The prices to get in are high. I was there for about two hours and had to show the ticket stub so I didn't have to pay another $7 each time I wanted to go into another entrance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel P.Edmond, OK1469846Sep 16, 2019
Good place to go walk and relax by the lake. I heard they are working on an 18-mile trail around the lake. Be sure to wear something to keep the bugs off.

Went this past weekend with the grandkids. The bathrooms were filthy. The beach had trash everywhere. Including a diaper floating in the water. It's only$7 for a carload but it's not worth it if you're going to have to pick the stickers out of your feet for the next two days. I guess we will keep looking for a local lake we can go to.

This lake is great for boating around, hiking, or camping. Definite 6-7 out of 10. However, the fishing is awful. I don't know if they've stopped stocking the lake or what, but the only consistent biter here is channel cats about as big as your hand. Even the perch are lackluster, and you know what a hungry beast they can be.
In short, if you're just hanging out with friends or doo-bee-dooing around on the trails you're golden. If you're looking to catch a stringer, go anywhere else.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ltray R.San Antonio, TX6655Nov 9, 2014
It's a nice place to enjoy a hike with family, friends and pets. The scenery is not magnificent but it sure is nice. The trails are easy and clean. We stopped at the lake and it was clean and beautiful view. Definitely a nice Sunday hike in this place.
