We own and operate an irrigation company in Pierce County. These guys are the ONLY leak detectors we refer our customers to. We have used 2 other companies in the past and By Far These guys are great at customer service, fair at pricing (even when they have to return) and we have never had them say they could not find a leak.
Others in past charge for a return trip. Not these guys. They stand by their pricing and their leak detecting.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I've known in my heart that my pool has been leaking for quite a while because the amount of water I need to add seems way more than evaporation would cause. But I had no idea where the leak was and finding it seemed like a long and arduous process. And I had worst-case scenarious swirling in my head--what if the pipes BELOW the pool or deck surface are leaking into the ground and they have to dig it all up?
But the leak seemed to be getting worse month by month and so I eventually called American Leak Detection. They asked me to do a "bucket test" to verify that the loss was more than evaporation (which happens in the bucket too), and also to check whether the loss is always happening or just when the pump is on. I had to do about a week of daily measurements where I would leave the pump on for 24 hours (using service mode on my control panel) and then measure and then off for 24 hours. In the end I found the big loss to only occur on pump-on days.
I gave the news to American Leak Detection and they scheduled Nick to arrive. He did arrive more than an hour after his 2-hour arrival window, but I can understand that he had 4 jobs before mine and some take longer than expected. Still a heads-up text that he was running late would have been nice.
I took him to the equipment room and actually pointed out a valve that I was suspicious of. We use it for backflow cleaning of the filter and so it heads straight to the drain. There was a spider valve before this backup valve which also was supposed to stop water from going through when not backflushing.
Nick walked behind the filter and spent about 5 minutes there and was like "yep, your spider valve and backup valve are both leaking". He showed me there was actually a viewport in the pipe where you could see water slowly moving through under bright light. And you could even see the water spraying into the drain at another point.
Since it only took about 10 minutes from arrival to diagnosing the problem, Nick only charged me a $250 "visit fee" instead of the much higher fixed detection price originally quoted. Some might say $250 is a lot, but he did come all the way out to my home with a truck full of equipment and his expertise and with time reserved for what could have been a multi-hour session. And while the leak seems "obvious" in retrospect, my pool maintenance/repair team didn't find it when I called them out first. The good news is, while Nick warned me that the spider valve is expensive, my pool repair team were able to replace just the gasket for much less.
After a few more days of measurements, I've verified that the leaking is gone. Thanks, American Leak Detection!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We had a leak in our roof and the roofers could not find the exact spot that was leaking, so they referred us to this company. The technician (Zach S) that came out was very polite and friendly, but he simply could not find the leak. So I literally paid $850 for nothing. Just ironic that "American Leak Detection" could not detect my leak.

Brandon came by to detect a leak in my main line. He was extremely professional., patient and found the leak in the garden. He also gave me practical advice that it is not a big leak and I do not need to shutoff main after every use. Recommended.

Came in on time, detected that there was no leak and charged a nominal fee ($250)... saved a ton compared to other companies. And since they only detect leaks, they don't have any hidden incentive for finding one to fix.

they came in and verified there is no leak and charged just a service call fee of $250. another company came out and gave an estimate of $3K to detect the leak! and then a possible $30K to fix it!
it's good that these folks are just only about detection, so there is no hidden benefit for actually finding leaks :-)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

On the home page of American Leak Detections website they make the promise, "We are the experts in leak detection. You can trust us to get the job done right the first time". This was not our experience with using their services. We were required to pay the plumber for excavating twice. Each excavation cost us over 2K. The delay causing the leak to continue for days longer than necessary. When we tried to contact them regarding their invoice, our multiple emails and voicemails were ignored. We paid the invoice but will not use their services again. Their lack of communication to resolve this issue was extremely unprofessional in my opinion.

Answered call and scheduled within 48 hours then received a call they could come earlier. Technician was incredible. Super pleasant, I asked a ton of questions and he was excited to answer them. Clearly loved his job. Found the leak within an hour using a fascinating system. When I dug the hole the leak was EXACTLY where he thought it was. Important to know American Leak finds the leak but doesn't fix it. For the big job to fix it, I was quoted a firm $2800 by a different company. I was able to do dig the hole with a friend in 3 hours on Saturday morning and fixed the leak in a PVC pipe for under $15. Total repair $400 to American Leak and $15 for the repair.

So yeah- not the funnest thing to happen ever but American Leak Detection was definitely Johnny on the spot and got us rolling on the road to repair and water again quickly.
A few weeks ago the city sent out a guy checking water meters. He knocked on our door and notified us that we had a "small to moderate" leak in our system somewhere. He further explained that we were losing 26 gallons of water per hour?!?! What?!?! That does not sound like just a little leak. Husband and I immediately walked the yard to investigate- no pooling water or obvious signs of a leak beyond the spinning numbers on the meter. Great.
We called our insurance company and they put us in touch with American Leak Detection. They were professional and fast acting from the start - already a good sign. Local office just on the Eastside in Bellevue so they were able to respond quickly and didn't have to drive far (we found out this is rare in the Seattle area.) They sent out Turner and his partner the next day.
They arrived about 10 minutes early and quickly went to work. This is a well oiled team that communicate well and seem to anticipate each other's thoughts easily. This was essential as the duo walked the yard looking and listening for the wayward water leak.
The process was pretty fascinating to watch. I was wondering how they would find a water leak in the pouring rain, this is the Pacific Northwest after all. We'd already shut the water off so they filled the pipes with air, then waited a few minutes for the rain to settle down. They then walked the yard poking a large 6 ft + pole in the ground. Together with a device and headphones they could hear underground and we're listening for air bubbles.
Once the general leak area was determined (in the lawn) - they spray painted it with the words "Leak Area" in big blue letters. The area was about 8 - 10 ft in diameter. So not exact but enough to dig. Fast forward a couple of days and hours or digging- we found the water leak in the center of where American Leak Detection marked it. Spot on!
The whole detection appointment was about an hour and half tops from start to finish with cleanup. They came out quickly, were very efficient and did a great job. Bonus points as the guys were especially kind and polite when different neighbors popped by several times to see what the commotion was. Don't get me wrong: if we ever have another water leak issue- I wouldn't hesitate to call American Leak Detection. But all things considered, I hope we never have to talk with them again! The City of Monroe notified us of a significant increase in water usage. On the recommendation of a neighboring business, who had had a similar problem, I contacted American Leak Detection (ALD). A telephone call to their office led to a quick and friendly reply. They quickly set up a visit by their technician, who did a thorough search of the building's water lines, for a fixed price, that let to the discovery of a leak under the parking lot outside the building. We hired a contractor to fix the leak that ALD had identified.
The good thing is that ALD is focused on finding leaks, and they do not have an incentive to prolong and increase the cost of fixing the problem.
I highly recommend them.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
