I work at AFH but delivered at American Fork for the first time in December (with my third baby) and it was definitely my best delivery, and I've delivered at 3 different hospitals. The staff were amazing, everyone was so accommodating, and I loved the nurses and Dr Thomas (he's amazing) who took care of my family. Highly recommend delivering here and I'm definitely planning on coming back if we have another!

We just moved here and my daughter delivered a baby. For months we were concerned about the so-so reviews but we were so pleasantly surprised and impressed by the stellar experience we had! Suzanne in labor and delivery took exceptional care of my daughter and would highly recommend this department and team! Thank you all!

I came to the AF Hospital on 6/21 because my water broke. The L&D department on the third floor is amazing. Everyone is so caring and thoughtful. Always making sure you're comfortable. The rooms are awesome & big. I loved the nurses that were there to aid me. The recovery department on the second floor is also so amazing. The NICU nurses have been so helpful and caring. Our little girl is still in the NICU but the nurses call us to update us when we aren't able to be there. If I'm still in Utah when I have another baby, I will 100% deliver here again.

The only reason why I didn't give the hospital 5 stars is because I've had to go to the ER a couple times this week because of how sick I've been and the nurses in the ER are not very nice. I was throwing up and the nurse demanded I put my mask back on but I was throwing up. It was really frustrating. Plus the wait time to actually get in is always super long.

*DO NOT USE THIS ER* SHAME ON YOU IHC! This is an update to my previous review...from 2 years ago. We had a family member visit the Am Fork IHC ER for a dislocated shoulder, and it's been a nightmare. I have just today received a collection notice. Out of the blue-after paying an invoice for the total amount listed. A second collection notice, also paid. I have receipts for the invoices paid in 2 occasions, plus the contact records from everything I outlined previously. IHC allows NORTH Valley ER physicians to bill you (or in our case-a family member). North Valley uses Mountain Land Collections. A quick google search shows how CORRUPT these businesses are. They repeatedly send collection bills out of the blue, no invoices, their phones don't get answered or YOU are hung up on. IHC YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ASSOCIATED WITH THESE BUSINESSES. I've been to a Mountain Star ER multiple times and have never had to endure such a corrupt, frustrating, obviously scam of a business. I'm alerting CMS that this hospital uses such underhanded business practices. I will not be visiting any IHC facilities.

Went to the ER for previously diagnosed kidney stones. I had a really high fever so I was worried about sepsis. I have a history of these kind of issues. At AF, the nurse (Adri) was awful. She treated me like a drug seeker. She was unkind and acted too busy and almost bored to have to take care of me. I've never had such a poor ER experience, especially while being so obviously ill.

After being admitted (for sepsis), I spent the next 3 days trying to get things under control. In the Med Surg unit I had 1/4 nurses that were great. One. His name was Jes and I'll never forget him. He is the only nurse I've had at AF who truly advocated for me and seemed to care about my progress. The other three on the unit were just there to pass the time. They were nice enough but were late or missed meds altogether and didn't address problems. They just passed it to the next nurse.

A week later, I had surgery to have the stones removed. The surgical experience was good; pre and post op nurses were great. Sadly though, overall, unhappy with my experience at this hospital.

      *Regarding their Same-Day Surgical Center*

I haven't had to go to the American Fork Hospital to have surgery or to have any of my babies; mainly because I've heard bad things about it. So when I heard I would be having a Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy here I was worried about the experience I might get in their Same-Day Surgery Center. I must say; my experience went great!

My procedure was originally scheduled at 4:30pm and I wasn't too happy about not eating all day during the holidays when there are so many goodies around my house; talk about will power. But around 10:30am that day I received a call from the surgical center and they said that they were ahead of schedule and wanted me there at 1:30pm instead! Christmas miracle!

The Surgical Services are located on the second floor above the ER. I hadn't actually been to that hospital in years (visiting friends or family there) and didn't know that they had this new "wing" to the hospital that was so nice and new! See pictures attached.

The nurse helping me get prepped before surgery was so helpful and nice. Her name was Dian, and she made me feel like a person, not just another number on her list of people to get through the day and I really appreciated that. She said that there would be a few other people coming in, asking the same exact questions to reduce possible error and I asked her about how long that process takes. She said about 45 minutes until going back into surgery and that was nice to know so I wasn't just waiting thinking it would be 5-10 minutes and then be frustrated that it took longer. Knowing the "schedule" made it easier to relax and watch some tv to distract myself. She also asked my husband if he needed a drink or anything because they have the hard part of waiting and worrying while I get a nap. So she got him something to drink and was very polite to him too.

The anesthesiologist came in and explained what he would be doing and after he was done, I had some questions for him about his job because my 16 year old daughter wants to become an anesthesiologist too. He was awesome with answering any of the questions I had! He was way nice!

My doctor came in and explained what he would be doing as well. The procedure was then done and after waking up I was helped by a nurse named Hannah (I'm pretty sure that was her name...I was coming off anesthesia so maybe that's completely wrong haha) but she was nice too. I was finally able to have some food like pudding and apple juice so that was nice after fasting all day.

Overall: I was very impressed and surprised by the great service I received here and would be able to say that I would recommend their same-day surgical services.

No one ever wants to go to the ER, but sometimes we have to. My 6 yr old hurt his knee about a week ago and even though we've been to the doctors, it was bothering him to the point he woke up crying from being dead asleep. I took him into the ER at 10pm on a Wednesday with my fingers crossed that it wasn't busy. We got right in and the doctor was in our room even before the nurse saw us. Dr. Oldroyd is amazing! He made sure my son was comfortable and talked to both of us like we were his only patients. The nurse on the other hand was a bit cranky and unfriendly. She didn't like that my son wouldn't take the syringe of ibuprofen, and got a little mean with him. Later on, my son fell asleep and a tech brought in blanket for him to keep and a goody bag with a coloring book, crayons, Legos and other fun things. When he woke up, he decided the hospital wasn't a bad place and wants to come back. All in all it wasn't a bad visit, we were in and out in about 90 min.

Asleep with a lollipop in hand.

We decided to have our baby delivered at the American Fork Hospital seeing that we heard only positive reviews. Turns out that they were correct! Here are my takeaways:

Pros: Great facilities- clean, nice lighting, didn't feel like a baby mill, midwife friendly, had a kitchen for mothers and immediate family (drinks, snacks, even a nice meal for my wife after the delivery), excellent cafe that could be ordered from our room (awesome food!), accommodating and quite and peaceful ground to walk my daughter to give the wife some quite time.

Cons: nurses and doctors frequented our room so often that we had to ask whether we could place a 'do not disturb' sign on the door. They laughed and said that they actually had this option and forgot to mention beforehand. Once the sign was up, we slumbered in all our post-birth bliss.

I went here back in October because I cut myself really badly and needed stitches and this was the closest ER to my house. The staff was professional and courteous and very good. They care was great and fast.
So why the 1 Star? Because of the billing department. First I got a bill in February for the entire amount if the ER Physician's bill. Now I know I'm out of network but these aren't the things you worry about when your hand is spurting blood, but I DO know that there is at least SOME payment form my insurance so I go and check with them. Sure enough the my company paid them the majority of the bill. Easy fix right? WRONG. What followed was hours on the phone with the hospitals billing department. Finally I get through to someone that agrees to contact the insurance company and sure enough, Oh yes, we did get paid, sorry. Hours wasted.
Fast forward to last week. Once again I get another bill and once again it's for the full amount and once again checking with my insurance company they have already paid them. Once again hours on the phone. But this time when I asked them to contact the insurance company they flat out refused. would not work with me at ALL. So I ask my insurance company to cal them. Sure no problem because my insurance company actually seems to care about customer service unlike this hospital. So again hours of calls to resolve their mistake. Again.
Long hold times, lack of help and billing mistakes. Not worth the hassle, next time I need an ER I'll go a little farther to the hospital that doesn't have incompetent rude people in their billing department.

While you have to wait for doctors as usual, this hospital was great for kids. I brought my daughter in with a cut on her leg and while waiting for stitches the care coordinator came in with a box of toys and we sat and played the entire wait. And she was sent home with a whole bag full of goodies and a popsicle. This did not help her obsession with going to the doctor (she thinks she needs to even when getting a bandaid) but it sure helped me when my 3 year old needed stitches for the first time.
