We love Amazon books!!
I don't recall what was here before but this spot is now our favorite. Amazon returns? Easy no box drop? Amazon items in store? Toys? Books? Camera?
So many fun things. And they are dog friendly! They used to even carry dog treats to give out. Baci loves coming here. Sometimes we come through just so he can say hi to everyone:)
And the store corner: where all the books/ magazines meets comfy beaches / all glass windows is our favorite spot ever! We spend our time there often with books. Baci loves to read :)
Parking lot outside is a madness now. All the food deliveries fighting for spot! They have 3 minutes spot for east drop off/ pickup. But the lot next to Amazon books is the busiest! Try parking in the garage or other lots.Helpful 27Thanks 0Love this 26Oh no 0 - Chris C.CA, CA02Jun 20, 2023
The most negative experience imaginable! Attempted to order three books online. Selected the books, and used an Amazon Gift Card for payment. The card had a balance of about $6ºº more than the total purchase. Started receiving emails from Amazon about problems with two of the books and that the other was being shipped. Amazon said their gift card balance was only $1.46 - hard to understand as I'd never used it. Another said the book that was shipped was charged to a Visa Card that was hacked and replaced over a year ago. Navigating their website is basically a joke unless you have a computer science master's degree. Was told they will cancel the other two books and that after I return and they receive the one shipped they'll credit the Gift Card back to it's original amount, which I'll probably give to someone I barely like.

An old man turned 98
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your chardonnay
It's a death row pardon, two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?...
Welcome to Bezosland. Isn't it ironic to think that Amazon whose dominance as the premiere online resource for discount books would manifest itself into a brick-and-mortar store? After all, Amazon destroyed Borders and turned Barnes & Noble into a shadow of its former retail self. Yet, they recognized there is something essentially tactile about reading a book that for many people, an Amazon Kindle simply doesn't satisfy. However, they sell those in here as well as the Amazon Fire TV (photo: http://bit.ly/2oZWARu), Amazon Echo, and other electronic products (photo: http://bit.ly/2pZJQcc).
Jamie W. and I decided to take advantage of a weekend in Seattle to visit the first permanent store Amazon opened in University Village just a scant eighteen months ago. Now the plan is to open 400 of them. Shades of Borders, the first thing I noticed was how well organized their store was, though if you want to have a seat, you need to walk over to one of the two chairs in front if they're available or sit on the window ledge toward the side. Now isn't it ironic that they carry over 5,000 titles but place the books with the covers facing outwards? Most bookstores display books by their spines to save space but not Amazon.
And frankly I liked this approach because it allowed them to attach an excerpt from a favorable customer review. Reflecting the handling of customer preferences on the website, they would also display a popular book and then identify three other books the customer might like if they found the first one appealing (photo: http://bit.ly/2q0x0wZ). Best of all, the prices match those offered on the website, including substantial discounts for Amazon Prime customers (photo: http://bit.ly/2q0M65O). What initially felt like a throwback to the super bookstores is really an act of marketing chutzpah and frankly genius.
A traffic jam, when you're already late
A 'No Smoking' sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's entering the bookstore of your dreams and then realizing it's Amazon
And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?
A little too ironic? Yeah, I really do think.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Vince B.Henderson, NV8126041800Aug 24, 2018
Huge modern book store packed with all sorts of great books.
NOTE: A real book store!! I love it!! Nobody is opening book stores these days!!
Concept: Amazon sells tons of real books online. This bookstore only stocks the top selling 5% of their online books. So only the most popular/top selling books. Your chances of finding good interesting books is assured. I could browse books in there forever.
All Types of Books: Fiction, Young Adult, How to Books, Gift Books, Children's Books...You name it and they have it. You will find books in there that no other bookstore will carry.
Downside: They may not have every book written by your favorite author or every book in every series, but they will have one or two. They are not trying to be a complete resource. Their concept is to have lots of very interesting books. I liked the concept.
Payment: Use your Amazon phone app to pay.
Five Stars from me. I will be going back as soon as I can. I'm excited now!Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 19Oh no 0 - Daphne T.Northeast Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA12Dec 26, 2021
If i could do no rating and still leave a review I would.. A few months ago I cancelled my membership after years because of the terrible customer service experience. Decided to go back to prime to today a representative supposedly can't give me her name ( this is who i am trusting with mailing address and credit card information) transferred me not to a supervisor like i asked but to another representative who like i asked got me to a supervisor, now because of the mistrust I question if he works for Amazon because he did not acknowledge the name of the company... for him to be even less helpful than the last representative and he hung up on me!! Not only do i have Amazon prime, audible and a subscription for my Alexa that I am going to cancel because of the mistreatment and blatant incompetents of this staff.. I have never been so angered or disgusted with a company before in my life!! This is a multi billion dollar company and sometimes our heads get too big when we think we don't have competition.. if a rep can not provide the basics which is their names they should not be working and for a manager to hang up on its customers should not be a manager if that's who it was anyways. I need to be contacted ASAP especially since the manager refused to provide me with corporates Email and phone number saying he was the highest.
Terrible customer service for the last 6 months.. I will be canceling all my memberships with this company!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 3, 2015First to Review
(Yeah, I understand that Amazon killed a lot of co-op, independent bookstores and Borders, and ironically now they are opening a physical book store...but this review is not about Amazon the company, but the store/customer service)
Like Amazon prices for books but don't want to wait for shipping? Now you don't have to!
Amazon opened a physical store in University Village, next to Banana Republic and across from JOEY Kitchen Din Tai Fung. The closest parking garage by the 26th Ave NE entrance but I took the bus here.
They grand-opened half hour ago. Short line but plenty of media. An older lady who said she was from the Associated Press took my photo and my name. Maybe I will see the photo somewhere, maybe not! They didn't offer any freebies to attract the unwanted demographics (if ya know what I mean), and first to purchase didn't get any perks either. Nonetheless, it was a very easy experience.
Prices are the same as online so use the scan stations to check real-time prices, or use your amazon app, click the camera button and scan the barcode.
Everything stocked is average-rated 4.5 stars and above, if I observed correctly. The decor and atmosphere reminds me of Barnes and Noble but everything sold is crowdsourced and averaged highly by customer ratings, so there should be few duds. All the books face out instead of spine facing out, and underneath each book or product is a tag/label where you can read a short customer review, or read it on your smartphone! There is a big children's section and even a table with 4 little chairs and 4 children-friendly Kindle Fires. These Kindle Fires can work in adult-mode when unlocked.
If you use the same credit card as the one registered on your Amazon account, you can just opt to get an emailed receipt without having to type in your email address. Hooray for saving paper! The cashier asked if I found everything OK and I told her that I was looking for a book written by a local Seattle author and she was quick to get on her phone to look it up (and told me they don't have it). So, not to worry - Amazon Books won't replace Barnes and Noble, just a nice addition to the University Village.
Definitely check it out if you happy to be here, a quick detour while at UW, and then eat lunch at Din Tai Fung right across the path afterwards!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - Nov 10, 2015
Was at U-Village the other day and forgot that Amazon had opened a bookstore. So I decided to check it out. It's near Molly Moon's, Joey, Banana Republic corner area. I could see it was pretty busy inside and as I entered, it crossed my mind that something cool must be going on. Unfortunately, there wasnt much coolness going on, just only people inside of a bookstore.
It's not a big store, it's pretty regular to me, a good amount of sections but not as wide array of choices. They do sell some electronics stuff so that is a slight plus. A good sized periodicals section to check up on how the Kardashians are doing to Food Network recipe magazines.
I do like they have a bench seating area to sit at while reading your magazines. Also there are Kindles you can play with to sample books, games, apps too.
As mentioned, there are no prices on the books, only barcodes. You will need to download the Amazon app on your phone, scan it, just so you can get the price. There are barcode scanning machines among the aisles to scan as well, but I only saw one.
It will be pretty busy in there for a while since holiday season is approaching, when it gets too packed inside, security guards will form a line outside and will let people in. Since it's new and quite busy, its pretty loud inside and a little tough to read among the craziness, so dont expect a calm, relaxing bookstore atmosphere just yet.
I enjoy going to bookstores but this place doesnt tickle my fancy much as it was just ehhhh (shrugs shoulders) to me.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Lucky S.Los Angeles, CA5712653910Jun 28, 2017
A cool place to actually thumb through all those book titles you can buy through Amazon. Plus they have Kindles and other Amazon tech items on display that you can test out.
You can pay using the Amazon App or the old fashioned way. Either option, you get discounted pricing with your Prime membership.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
