Little Brodi & I got the the humungo sammich called the Da Hora & surely enough... it was huge & I'm a big eater. It's layered with a flat steak, hamburger patty, chicken, bacon, shoe string fries, with your greens & tomaters. Great value for the size of this thing.

We also got the shrimp empada & that was absolutely amazing as well. Good amount of shrimp & crispy flakiness; it is big enough to share with 2.

Open 24/7 with great food is a +++ in my book

    Skip the burgers!
We went here based on the "one dollar sign" price range. There are so many four stars restaurants in ironbound, we figured we would get a great meal anywhere.

We ordered the banana burgers and a steak salad. The burgers are huge and full of non traditional fixings, (read other reviews for more details) but unfortunately the beef burgers use pre-made patties. This ruins the overall taste for me personally. Instead of all the extras enhancing the burger, it feels like the sauce and fixing are trying to conceal the bland meat patty.

The unique Steak salad was "top sirloin" but made w/ a very "fatty" cut. Albeit generous portions.

Everything else was pretty great.  Fresh orange juice, and smoothies delicious! Wish we had tried the "meat empanadas" or other freshly made pastries in glass case instead.

I will say that for the price, this really was a great place! The service was good, the young waitress very attentive and patient.  I'm sure this place is very delicious if you order the right items.  One note.. gratuity is already added to our check (party of four) a very  modest 10%..  We tipped another 10 anyway.

While in Newark for work purposes, I walked around aimlessly looking for some breakfast. I happened to see this place and decided to give them a shot.

Small cramped place but clean. I ordered the bacon omelette and an espresso. Eggs were a little over done for my liking but it was still good. There was plenty of bacon as well. The espresso however was great. I would definitely return here anytime I'm craving an espresso.

Overall, 4 stars. Their service is good, food is good, and after looking at their menu I'm curious in trying their Brazilian sandwiches.

They take cards as well so no need to search for an ATM. Portions are large so bring your appetite with you.

They also have a wide assortment of cakes and pastries. This small place has a lot! I recommend giving this place a shot.

Really good place for Brazilian dishes! This place is in a great location.. We went there one day for a quick brunch.. And we're enjoyed every bit of all the food we ordered! It was a little cozy by we managed and the service over spoke for the tight surrounding.. The food topped over everything! Must try their burgers!!

    1) I imagined the sandwiches would be bigger, but I barely could eat half! I ordered the grilled chicken, corn and mozzarella cheese. So good. A little bit too much mayo and I would of preferred their homemade mayo instead because it was more flavorful.
    2) They did not have the Brazilian soda I wanted but the boy/mesero taking our order suggested another that was okay.
    3) On that note the wait was bad and there was obvious preference to those who spoke Portuguese. My group of 5 were really understanding. Even when people glared at us for our seats.
    4) Tried their chocolate pudding. Nom nom.
I would get so fat trying their food and I do not even care. Too bad I live in NY and was just here by chance.
Eat their sandwiches. Or desserts. And bring me some. :)

I was staying at a nearby hotel, and thought "When in Newark..."  Ordering (for delivery) online is convenient if you can translate Portuguese.

The food, which is basically super-messy, is IMPECCABLY packaged. I was so impressed. Not a drop of Acai shake spilled, or of the dulce de leche escaping from the churro.

So backtracking: the churro was very good, but a little soft. The Acai (they snuck some banana in there, and shake could be had with many options, mainly either straight, with cream, or with sweetened condensed milk. I got the latter, and it was excellent and fresh. The Arab pastry stuffed with cheese was good - not sweet but not not sweet.

Finally, the X-banana burger was huge, tasty, and again, perfectly packaged; a plastic drip shield, wrapped by foil, then by paper.  The meat itself is thin and dry, but overall it is a satisfying sandwich... I am sure VERY much so I'm the typical state, at late hours.

Since my boyfriend and I first came here, they've raised their prices twice and also automatically added on a tip to every bill. We still like the food and the employees, but come less. It used to be a lot cheaper, for students like us.

They have the best cheese bread sandwiches ever, bauru. But you have to clarify which bauru since there's more than one type on the menu I think. They've given me a wrong order more than once, but apologized and fixed it. And the sauces they give you are so good, we put them on everything. My boyfriend orders the x-banana and I normally hate burgers but it's so good. They put things like plantains, potato sticks, and corn. It sounds weird but it's amazing.

Oh and being open 24 hours is a total plus.

I love this place, especially after a night of partying and drinking. It is a great alternative to the usual diner situation. It is usually packed after midnight so seating is super limited. There is outdoor seating but it is getting too cold to be outside lol. Plentiful parking on the surrounding streets!

I ordered the Brazilian Mixto Wrap. It has grilled chicken, cheese, and onions inside with a lightly baked tortilla. Instead of fries, they give you potato sticks on the side. By no means this is small. Its a very generous portion and you will be full! The chicken is real tender with the melted cheese on top. Personally, I think there was too much onion inside. Luckily we can just pick it out :)

Quick and helpful service. The waitress takes care of all the tables and she is amazing. Tip well!!

The BEST sandwich you'll ever have. After moving to Miami, I would visit Altas Horas anytime I am in New York or Jersey. The Frango Xtudo (#25) is my all time favorite and you cannot beat that GREEN SAUCE. Been asking them for that recipe for over 5 years now =/

    2) The price is very reasonable for the size.
    3) It is open 24/7.

Let's be honest, most 24 hour places rule and Altas is no exception. Their infamous "Da Hora", containing a hamburger topped with ham, chicken, potato sticks, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, and mayo, is an absolute must try. So are their shakes and make sure to have a bottle of their green sauce in hand when feasting on their burgers.

Looking for a late night spot Sunday night, I remembered a friend's recommendation to check out Altas Horas in Newark. Place is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Can't beat those hours.

The menu is monstrous. So many things to choose from. But i was here for what was described to me as "a good sandwich with a ton of sh*t in it."

Go big or go home. Ordered "Da Hora", advertised as the biggest sandwich on the menu. It was gigantic. Da Hora had a chicken breast, sirloin steak, hamburger, bacon, egg, cheese, 2 slices of ham, mozzarella, potato sticks, lettuce, tomato, and corn mixed with mayo.

The meats were all cooked well done, but the other things in the sandwich hid any dryness to them. The corn mayo mixture was excellent, I feel like it tied everything together.

They also have 3 bottles of sauce, one is ketchup the other 2 i think are chipotle ranch and some sort of spinach ranch mix. I like the 2 ranch based sauces.

    UPDATE**

OMG THEIR SMOOTHIES ARE DELICIOUS! Perfect consistency, not too thick, not too thin. Great flavor, not artificial tasting at all.

I love this place.  Amazing Brazilian sandwiches!

For a small little cafe, this place puts out HUGE insane sandwiches.  I never knew that having potato sticks, corn, ham, bacon, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo on a steak sandwich could be so good.  My favorite is the salad Mista Picanha E Frango (Steak and Grilled Chicken on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, olives, heart of palms, potato sticks and onions).

Just writing this review makes me hungry to go back.  Anyone near the Newark Ironbound area should try this place.

    UPDATE

Cashier doesn't speak English.  Unless you're Portuguese expect 2nd class treatment from waiters especially the guys.  Most waitresses have good customer service though.

Food is great but service- not so much

    UPDATE;

Tried to make a carry out order just now.  Some one picked up the phone and just sat the phone on the counter for the entire 3 minutes I was on the line.  Tried to call again and got no dial tone/phone didn't even ring because obviously front desk unplugged the phone.  I keep giving them another chance but their continually changing front desk staff always disappoints everytime.

I'll gladly take my business and future recommendations elsewhere.

Wow- that was amazing. I went there yesterday just b/c i read so many great reviews and i wanted to try it. I just tried the x banana burger, and all the reviews are right. Who would have ever thought that the combination of burger and banana would go- WELL it does! The burger, bananas, corn, potato stix, mayo sauce combination was great. You just dont want to be done with the meal. it is a small little place, very casual. The waitress brought us the wrong check first, and then added a drink onto our bill that we didnt get, but they fixed it no problem.

Overall tip- MUST EAT BANANA X BURGER
