When my furnace suddenly -- but after many, many years -- decided it had served us long enough, I contacted Home Depot to purchase a new one. I'm so thankful Home Depot's installation contractor in my area is AllTech Services. John Whaley came out to my home, and wow is he impressive! After quite a few calculations, both before and after he arrived at the house, he presented several options at various price points, including a detailed explanation of the pros and cons of each. No pressure, just solid information. As I was considering which way to go, I called John multiple times, plaguing him with a stream of questions. The man has the patience of a saint and is as pleasant as he is knowledgeable. He unquestionably had my best interests at heart. Installation went smoothly, with Gerson and Dillion doing a fine job. Overall, an excellent experience!

I will give the company a star for their follow-up. I'm grateful they followed up, but the follow-up was like hot, flat beer.
a) They did call me for a follow-up concerning the A/C (good)
b) They confirmed the price for the first two pounds of refrigerant (BAD). They suggested this is fair and reasonable, and lower prices may indicate a lesser product (like recycled from another system). The $75/pound quote from another company is for a new product, not recovered.
c) They offered to extend the coverage of my maintenance contract for 'free' for the next six months, which I declined. I'm burnt enough that I just want to go, and the only service in the next six months would be the furnace. They also wanted me to remove my Yelp rating on them in return for the six months "free" contract extension. Um, no.
d) They said there's a "Cancellation Fee" to cancel the maintenance contract, which is complete Cr*pola. The lady who called, S*, said she'd waive that, so I chose not to call her out on the phone. But I would definitely deny payment for any contract cancellation, especially since the contract had run multi-year. Basically, it's company policy to charge you a fee to quit them.
What they did NOT offer was to send someone out to complete the A/C condenser cleaning that was left undone by N* in the original visit, even though they clarified he should have done the 'basic clean' when he was there. The 'special clean' with the 'special soap' is once every five years and S* explained that N* should have informed me of that. All I wanted was a basic clean -- it gets cleaned every year, either by myself (prior to the contract) or by the HVAC company doing the maintenance (until this year).
Well, why didn't he do the basic clean, and why didn't All Tech offer to come back and make up for his lack of service? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for speaking with us extensively about this issue and of course I am sad we were not able to keep you as a client. That said, we are always looking for opportunities to grow and we take this insight to heart, Have a good summer.
Jul 31, 2023Previous reviewWow. Just Wow. Almost admirable performance if you're a fellow grifter.
Been using these guys for a couple years or more on a maintenance contract, and it seems the technicians are always trying to upsell parts, additional maintenance, and (of course) whole new system installations. I was tolerating it well until last fall when the furnace technician came out to check the furnace. While he did a good job, his conversation the entire time was a sales pitch, to the point of nausea. He wanted to quote a new furnace (whole new HVAC if he could. Short of that, he wanted to sell me duct cleaning (done a few months prior), a furnace fan cleaning (said it couldn't push air anymore, which is total bull), a UV light install (germs), etc., etc., etc. I was polite but noncommittal.
So, this summer, I scheduled both the hot water tank inspection and maintenance and the Air Conditioning check on the same day.
Hot water shows up first, "Gene P". He did an excellent job. Checked all the stuff, flushed it without asking, noted the condition without any upsell b.s., said it's good for a few more years. Explained the pain of removing the anode rod and replacing it (not worth the effort), which I do understand. He was very professional. Rightly noted the condensate drain on the HVAC is slow and could use a clean-out.
Then, A/C, "N.H." shows up. Oh Gawd, where to start...
He's checking out the A/C electrical and pressure, wraps it up, not much, and seems to be finishing when I ask if he's going to wash the condenser coil. He looked like I'd asked him to eat a bug. He starts in by saying he'd have to quote it, and I ask for a quote and if he can "do it today" or if that requires a separate appointment. He says it can happen today, but it's about $400 because they use a "special soap." I choke on that price, but now I know he's up to something and just doesn't want to do it. So I say "Okay, let's do it" and I fully intend to stay out there and watch him, make sure he does it and does it well (remove the top, flush inside-out). So he goes inside and checks the evaporator and furnace area, thinking about the job. Finally, comes to me and says (paraphrased quotes, not exactly, as I didn't record it) "Your A/C unit is not in very good condition anymore, but it's not 'that bad', either." WTF does that mean? "Well, it's low on refrigerant, which means there's a leak, and the coil is so dirty, that is probably what's keeping the leak from being worse and draining completely. If I clean the coil it risks making the leak worse, and then I have to do a leak investigation, which is, like $1500. Too, if I have to add refrigerant, that's $395 for the first two pounds and $245/pound additional. It will probably need four- to five- pounds, minimum. Even if the leak isn't made worse, the better cooling efficiency from having the coils cleaned will trip the system safety, so it will need probably 4-5 pounds of refrigerant after I clean it to make it run at all. So all told, you're looking at over a thousand dollars to clean and charge, and possibly up to $4000 to fix the leak."
Did I mention AllTech cleaned the condenser coil last year as part of the maintenance? That wasn't even part of their service this year.
Then he starts offering up having a new A/C quoted and tries to upsell to the whole HVAC system. However, contradicting the furnace technician from last Fall, he said the furnace blower fan is fine, is not that dirty, and the furnace "overall, looks okay".
So what is it?
I did some price comparisons and those prices - verbal, he never wrote it up officially - are outrageous. So: 1) He was trying to discourage me from having the condenser cleaned, 2) He was preparing to rook me and get himself a little bonus, or 3) AllTech's in on the game and they are rooking everyone they can with ridiculous pricing and upsells.
I called around to another company who validated my concerns, noting their condenser cleaning is around $150 if sold as its own service, refrigerant - from them - is $75/pound, and you don't need the 'special soap'. Any decent soapy cleaner will work -- it's about having some soap, a gentle to good sprayer, and spraying from inside-out.
Finally, I *do* think the refrigerant is a bit low: if it wasn't low before, it certainly was after he started disconnecting the gauge hoses and let a huge cloud fart of refrigerant spray out. Too, one of the access points is missing its cap. Not a big deal, but he noted it. Wouldn't someone want to do a great customer service job and go get a replacement cap for their service-contracted customer (not contracted anymore)? I know they have spares in the truck. Of course, he'd probably want to charge me fifty bucks for a one-dollar cap, and probably weave a story about how the cap causes leaks. - Megan A.Burke, VA368Feb 12, 2024
This review encompasses my entire experience with this company.
Updated Review - 02/12/23 Ending the five years I've subscribed to this company
I return to my initial review of this company. Not sure why one really good plumber for a plumbing check made me change it.
This is a predatory company. They used to change the filter of a whole house humidifier as part of the scheduled fall HVAC tune up, but the ever greeding owner, who frequently decides he can make more money by reducing the basic service and charge more for part of the service.
When my HVAC was serviced back in November, the humidifier fliter was not changed. I wasn't home at the time and my husband didn't notice it.When I called I was told that now including the humidifier would cost and additional $173. After thinking about it I decided I needed it done and scheduled the service. I was told on the phone it would cost $173. The tech came today and told my husband it would be $273.
In the past year at several scheduled appointments were cancelled because the tech scheduled was sick. This happened for the fall tune up twice and then another was cancelled because of snow. All of them took several weeks to get back on the schedule.
I have severed my service agreement with this company.
Updated review. 4/18/23 - very happy with the plumbing check today. I had a couple slow flowing faucets that the plumber cleaned out using a special key. I had been trying to clean the aeration filter since I got that faucet and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get to off. Now I know to make sure the All Tech plumbers that come to do the annual check do it.
Old review-I was happy with them for the first year I had them. Then they came for the fall service check up and suddenly it's an additional $30 to change the humidifier pad which I supplied. It's not total home care as they advertise, it's total home care plus anything they can nickel and dime you for. Cancelling and not using them again.
Update 11/20/19 - They still are ridiculous about the humidifier pad changing, they won't do it if you supply the pad. I understood why they wouldn't mess with the humidifier when they had a faulty valve that was under recall, but they replaced the valve and they still won't change the humidifier pad if you supply it. The pad has nothing to do with a potential leak in the humidifier. I've given them a couple more stars because they did respond quickly to a recent emergency call when we lost heat. However their initial response was that I would have to wait until the next day because they sent all of their technicians home, because of dangerous condition. I had to insist that since I'm paying a monthly fee to get priority service that telling me to go without heat for a day was crap and I had to threaten to cancel my service. There was two inches of slush on the ground and this is Virginia, where it snows pretty regularly, not Florida. I had no problem driving in it with a Prius so not sure why they are afraid their technicians can't drive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Logan F.Haymarket, VA01Oct 16, 2023
this company is full of scammers they came out to my house to perform services and got me to sign up for a membership after I signed up for the membership. The technician said I could quit the membership at any time. However, that is not the case they wanted to charge me more than the membership was worth as a buyout option which was $300 this is absurd.
The technician that came out to my house lied to me about what's wrong and tacked on lots of additional parts when in reality all I needed was a high pressure sensor. They stated that it would be cheaper just to replace my six year old system.
I do not recommend All Tech services. They are greedy, a joke, and treat their employees like they are nothing. My advice to anybody looking for HVAC repair. Do not call this company call someone like Michael and sons or a Cypress air cypress air, and Michael and sons are honest, upfront and professional. I can't say the same about All Tech.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Air-conditioning broke, company was responsive but very expensive. Cost me over $1000.00 for a warranty repair, a single run capacitor and a refrigerant fill of 2.5lbs. Air conditioner is running and it was a hot day, but feel like I was racked over the coals. Tech was very knowledgeable.

Had them out for an HVAC issue. The tech was good but the prices are off the charts. I got charged $450 for the installation of a $25 capacitor and $250 for the tech to pour some water down the drain line to flush it. Give me a break! He also quoted me $550 to install a new PVC drain line. Come on! I can get PVC at Home Depot for $10. Basically this company marks everything up 400%. Please go elsewhere!

Unable to find leak in the heat pump after $3000 (refrigerant leak test, replacement of coil). Now recommending nitrogen leak test and charging $1200 for it

I recently had another company give me a second opinion on replacing my capacitor. I thought AllTech was too pricey and I wasn't sure I needed to replace it. The second company did a simple test and concluded it was still good. However after doing some research it turned out that AllTech actually did a better test and legitimately found that the capacitor is failing a bit, an 11% reduction, which suggests it should be replaced. My previous review suggested AllTech was being unethical is trying to replace a piece of equipment that was not bad. I would like to retract that. They performed the correct test and from what I researched, it should be replaced. I am now questioning the company who gave me a second opinion. Bottom line, I think AllTech is a bit pricey but they are professional and knowledgeable.

HI Mark: We take this very seriously. The Team is reaching out to you and we will do all we can to enforce our 100% guaranteed satisfaction. I look forward to seeing this through.
Sep 27, 2023Previous reviewAfter a scheduled maintenance visit, I was advised I needed a new Capacitor for my outside unit. The cost to replace was $420. I thought this was excessive for a $60 part replacement and got another reputable company to get a second opinion. They showed me that the capacitor is working fine. After reviewing some of the other complaints against this company, my exact problem (bad capacitor), and the cost to do fix it, is not an uncommon complaint. I do not recommend this company. Everytime they came out to do maintenance over the last year or so, they always found something for me to pay for. I would question their business ethics.

I've had these folks do a few projects around my house and they've always done a great job. The biggest job I've had them do is replace my AC/Furnace. They worked with me on price and the equipment I wanted for the house.
They were very punctual and they tidied up after everything was done. They were very considerate of our kids and were kind of my son who wanted to watch everything they did.
The price was a bit high but for this area I didn't find a better price from a company that was reputable.
I would highly recommend this company if you want quality. If you want a good price you may have to negotiate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
