I came into Alex's without an appointment during the day and was sat down immediately. The haircut was quick, but the woman cutting my hair was responsive to what I wanted and checked in twice with me. While it's not the single best haircut I have ever gotten, it was perfectly acceptable and felt like an absolute steal for only $25.
I will definitely be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Decad E.Washington, DC1305Jun 23, 2023
I've tried multiple barbers in dc over time and even multiple in Mount Pleasant (this neighborhood - I don't even live here). Nahum (pronunciation na-ooom) is my favorite barber, in my 2 decades in dc and for the last many years I've been coming here.
1) I've never left with a nick on my skin only to my hair and beard (meaning their cut, my skin isn't). Safety is their priority.
2) the haircuts and beard trims are amazing. I recently experienced once in Georgetown (you'll see my review, bad), and the cost at Alex's was incredible - half the price for multipliers of worth.
3) all the barbers/staff are friendly - if you introduce yourself they make an attempt to learn your name and they remember even the most common Spanish name to the least common (to them) "foreign" name.
4) the clientele vary from every age / gender / race / background from just what ive seen while there. Folks of all backgrounds revisit.
5) this is community...join it!!

We went back, only due to it's proximity, Robin (1st chair) jacked up the price to 30 dollars for a simple cut, instead of the the usual "20". Last person also overcharged us. This place baits you with a cheap price and then overcharges you after your cut.

Been coming to Alex's in Mount Pleasant for at least 7 years. Now take my 8yo son. Robin is amazing with all the fun cut-ins my son likes. My hair looks consistently good as it grows out. Great service and really decent prices. Come support a family-owned small business!

Alex is exceptional and I appreciate his attention to detail. His experience leads you to trust him. Watching his other clients and his interaction with them, you get a clear indication of his commitment to his craft. He's also a very cool guy! Truly a master barber.

Came to this location on September 18th 2018, I came with my three nephews to get their haircut, to which their mother wanted the same guy to cut their hair. I was told that that is not the way they do business and that someone else who is available may cut their hair as they become available.
Secondly, my eldest nephew, asked for #21 for kids but that he wanted the top part longer than the picture, when I confronted the guy he said he only asked for #21 and that that was what he was giving him. My nephew holding in his tears said no that he told him that he requested the hair to be longer from the top. He ignored and said that that is not what he had asked.
Unfortunately I needed their hair cuts because they had a family portrait shoot the following day. They do not pay attention their customers needs. I will not be coming back here again, this place is completely unprofessional.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chase A.Northwest Washington, Washington, DC02038Mar 3, 2020
Went in for a fresh fade, came out happy.
Had an interview that day--went well.
Jennifer cut my hair--I was a walk-in, Tuesday morning.
Prices are lower than the competition, yet still typical DC area: 20 bones for a cut, 25 for a skin fade.
Nice place--happy barbers.
A guy named Poncho came in half way through to chat it up with the crew and it was nice to see an old-timer local come in and cheer everyone up!
Robin cut my hair a few weeks later, and he did an excellent job.
I had no special requests, just shorter all around.
Great job, both times!
I'll happily make my way over for another cut soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cesar O.Washington, DC5397836Aug 22, 2019
They are good at cutting hair,
It's a little to cramp on the inside, not enough space for the numerous people that are waiting to get their hair cut.
Another thing is that the ladies that bleach hair use strong chemicals that you can smell them as soon as you walk in so it's a bit uncomfortable having to smell that while you getting your hair cut. They should improve more in expanding the room or coming up with a better ventilation system.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda S.Eatonville, WA0201Oct 13, 2019
No frills but awesome. I walked in and immediately got a haircut and was out the door in under 30 minutes. I have thick curly hair and had 2" taken off, layered... all for $22 before tip. Very well done. I had just showered so didn't need shampoo and I didn't ask for drying/styling because I was pressed for time (my issue, not the hair stylist's!). Highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing place, walked in, didn't have to wait a minute to be taken care of.
Great service, friendly atmosphere, great music!
Left $17+tip and left with the most amazing haircut I have ever had.
Jenni did a fantastic job, I strongly recommend her to everyone who's looking for a professional who can make you look beautiful.
I live in Pittsburgh, PA, but I will be traveling to DC every time I need a haircut. Jenni is worth it !!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
