Alebrijes Mexican Delicacies

Outstanding tamales de pollo con mole, we had at the farmer's market stand.  Really good mole the straight up Oaxacan way.  And great agua fresca--cucumber and mint, so refreshing.  We had a nice chat with the owner who had a lot of recommendations about the area.

Made us reminisce about Oaxaca it's that good.

Would be great if this place developed a brunch menu as well would be interesting to see what they offer perhaps a nice huevo a la cazuela with hoja santa yommi

PS: note to gringolandia--tamales in the singular is tamal.  Nobody says tom-all-ee unless you're eating that movie theater candy, red hot tamales, or you're a Loony Toons character.  Or you're American.

Excellent mexican food. A little off the beaten path, at the top of a hill, next to a somewhat run down hotel. The desolate hotel could be a result of the pandemic. Alebrijes is great though. Nice inside, very cool on a hot day. Nice big bar when you walk in with a great view of the mountains in the distance. The food was quality Mexican. Will be back.

Very hidden location but the food and service is great!  I almost don't want to review so it can be my hidden place.

Staying in Kingston for ski at Bellayre.  Decided to eat at this place close to our hotel.  From the look of the place, it is quite large and could accommodate corporate function type affair.  The place is incredibly clean and service staffs are amazing.  I ordered the shrimp fajita for $22.  I got a lot of pieces of shrimp and a few scallops in mine.  They gave me flour tortilla but corn is an option for sure.  I enjoyed the dish and the portion was amazing.  My son got grilled chicken breast with rice and beans.  While it was not on the menu, they were able to accommodate and charged us for kids price of $13.  He thought the chicken was a bit dry.  My wife got the stuffed tilapia.  Again huge portion but unfortunately it wasn't cooked all the way through.  We told them and they cooked it a bit longer.  It came with chicken soup which my son loved and consumed it all.  All in all, great service and there are things they can improve on food wise.  Will give them 3 strong stars for today and I do recommend this place.

So much space to comfortably eat and not feel crowded at all. Tables Much more then 6' apart. Service was great, very attentive, nice staff and food was really good fresh and delicious with large portion sizes.

A nice quite place in Kingston, especially if you want a break from all American or fast food.  Will visit again when in the area!

I could just copy and paste David D's review below. Same experience, unbelievable. In fact we too ended up happy at the bar at Santa Fe in Kingston. Here's mine:

Yes, I had a view from atop the hill, but I also had a view of crooked beer signs, and of the numerous young children loudly frolicking in the banquet hall which was separated from us only by a beaten up set of vertical blinds.

Also, the food took forever to come. So long, in fact, that we left before it arrived. Sorry guys. I can wait for homemade, chef-oriented or labor intensive dishes. But not for a couple of plates of enchiladas on a Wednesday.

David also mentioned the $10 margaritas from a mix, which I was fortuitous enough to ask about in advance given the clueless vibe of the place.

The finishing touch was being called a queer in the parking lot outside the joint. Classy crowd!

I am not one that likes rice of any kind.. BUT. The food here was great loved the refried beans. Not mush!!! Shrimp poppers were excellent my shrimp plablano was excellent there were 7 of us, every one was very happy with our food.. Drinks and appetizers right through the desert was absolutely great I would recommend this place to anyone.. like I said I am not a big Mexican food guy don't care for rice but everything I had here was extremely delicious ..even the homemade sangria!!!!!! WE WILL BE BACK FOR MORE......Very friendly people, nice view at the windows, cozy atmosphere. Ok for kids

Very friendly on the phone when we made a reservation for 6 people then called back to change it to 8 people. Table was all set up when we arrived. Margarita was delicious! Salsa and chips we're spot on. The black bean soup was amazing and everyone loved their meal. They were packed but did a really good job keeping up with a full restaurant. Our waitress was on the top of her game, she had a regular chair and high chair waitung for my son, brought his food out first so he could start eating, and brought a spoon and fork and asked what was easier. Food and service we're both top notch, we will definitely be back!

I had decided to give 3.5 stars, but rounded up because....I can be nice sometimes!

The service and decor/atmosphere do need a little help.  There were beautiful fresh flowers on all the tables that had such a perfume....it bummed me out!

Chips and salsa when you sit, the chips came to us still warm! The salsa was not like any I've had before - it almost looked like it was tomato sauce based with onions, jalapeño and the like added. It wasn't bad, just different.

AND MEXICAN COKE!!

My husband and I ordered the taquitos (chorizo and potato) - 3 to a plate for about $6 or $7....they were MOLTEN hot, but so delicious. The right amount of filling to wrapper ratio, and the dipping sauce was great!

We got a chicken tamale, it was bigger than a deck of cards, tender and stuffed with chicken breast and peppers....the tomatillo sauce had more heat than I anticipated but it wasn't too hot, the whole thing was delicious, and $5!!

My husband ordered the Mayan burrito, it was HUGE and fantastic.  After seeing the size and prices, we pondered how they could be making money.  

I ordered the carnitas chimichanga, again HUGE. Both of our entrees came with garden rice (mehhhhh, it didn't do it for me. Peas and carrots mixed into white rice, presumably with spices...I found it a little salty) and beans. The beans were ok, not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst! Also, I have an obsession with beans so I'm not a fair judge. My chimichanga was (again) spicier than I anticipated, but that's not a bad thing! It had avocado and salsa in it, with (I imagine) the same tomatillo sauce....at this point I was so stuffed I could barely eat.

BUT DID I MENTION THE MEXICAN COKE?!  

I'm stoked we stumbled upon this place. They've only been open since December, I'm hoping they can stay open because I'm already dying to go back! There were so many things I want to try!
