Question:
So the Ahi Vegetable doesn't come with soup? I had to buy the tiny soup. Lol
Answer:
I think it depends on what you buy. I've always gotten miso soup with the meals.

2/21/2020There are three locations for Ahi & Vegetable; Fort Street Mall, Ala Moana and Dillingham. There are very subtle differences between the locations, most notable is the way the spicy salmon is prepared. The Fort Street Mall and Dillingham locations have a spicy salmon that closely resembles the spicy ahi. In other words, the salmon flesh is diced up more finely. The Ala Moana location has a spicy salmon that is cut into poke style cubes. All of the Ahi and Salmon are fresh not frozen. The Ahi is local and bought of the auction block in honolulu. The Salmon is farm raised salmon from Scotland so there is normally high fat content due to the colder water up north. Miso soup or salad is served with all of the bentos. Also there are great rice options; brown, white/plain and sushi. If you're in the mood for high quality fresh fish give Ahi & Vegetable a try.

If you've never tried fresh, delicious, affordable raw fish before... 1) WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL YOUR LIFE?!?! 2) Please do try this place out because you will not be disappointed. It's conveniently located in the Downtown area. They have a lot of different menu options to accompany the fishy selections. And their fish is fresh from the auction, which exact ones I'm not too sure but it doesn't matter because they all taste very fresh to be honest ;) And items are all priced reasonably.
I remember rushing off the bus after school to get to Ahi & Vegetable before closing, just so I could pick up my all time favorite, the 'Sashimi Salad'. What is this you might ask. Well, it's a plate of 3 different kinds of fishy friends. Ahi/ tuna, salmon and hamachi/ yellowtail. All placed over a bed of salad greens, lettuce; paired with a dressing. Now this is the most important part. HOUSE DRESSING is amazing. I'm not sure what's in it but it's like a tangy ranchy goodness. It has a certain umami quality to it. I dip the salad greens, the fish, just everything. You cannot get enough of this. It also comes with pickled ginger, shoyu and wasabi. So go ahead, treat yourself~ - Mikayla M.San Francisco, CA
9/5/2019Oh how I've missed poke bowls! This place's poke bowls are pretty good. You can tell the fish is fresh! They give sushi rice (which I personally prefer) w/the poke so you have to eat it right away but I devoured that so fast since I came here immediately from the airport.

I love Ahi & Vegetable!
I'm so glad they have two locations. One at Dillingham next to Zippy's and one in downtown Fort Street Mall next to subway! This place is a super cute mom & pop shop but they're starting to get super popular. Price is affordable and the quality of their ahi is super fresh in my opinion.
My go-to is their spicy ahi donburi. For $11 you can get a mountain size scoop of spicy ahi, a layer of rice (your choice of sushi rice/brown/white) I always choose brown since it's a healthier alternative for me. Steamed Choi sum, and side of miso soup. I always ask for extra sushi ginger. - Richard K.Honolulu, HI

Ahi and Vegetable is one of my go-to places for lunch. It's located right in the middle of Fort Street Mall, across from the 1132 Bishop building (a couple of doors makai of Subway). They offer up fresh fish that is advertised as procured daily.
My favorite 2 things to order:
1. B2 Sushi Bento, which comes with 2 large pieces of maguro sushi, 2 large pieces of sake sushi, and 4 large pieces of nori-wrapped spicy tuna sushi. $12
2. Spicy Tuna sushi roll which comes with a spicy tuna roll cut into 6 large pieces. $7
All orders come with a small cup of miso soup, which really hits the spot.
I usually order to-go but there are a few 4-top and a couple of 2-top tables you can enjoy your meal at. - Jack W.Honolulu, HI

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE
Working downtown or just somehow found yourself downtown and in need of something light and fresh for lunch? A&V could be the place for you!
=== 2. FOOD
Bento B8 ($12): yin meets yang, hot meets cold, raw meets cooked, and good meets...ev- wait, good in this combo!
The tender teriyaki chicken sitting on a bed of rice anchors the bento but the real stars of the show are the six pieces of sashimi (three each of ahi and salmon), and the shoyu poke to go with the rice. The token choy sum and ginger add color while the cup of miso soup help round out the meal nicely in this fresh and great meal!
You can get a side of seaweed salad for $1, but don't let the picture fool you - you get a condiment container's worth which is almost tortuous in thinking you may want to order many just to satisfy your seaweed cravings...
=== 3. SERVICE
It's about as good as it can be during the business lunch rush - which means it's transactional to order and pay, and then wait for 10+ minutes to get your meal...time enough to get a fresh fruit boba drink a few doors down at Harry's Cafe :)
=== 4. ATMOSPHERE
There's not much to look at in what is essentially a dim-to-medium-lit, long, rectangular room. During this business lunch, everyone is really taking it to go, but there are tables fitting parties of 2 and 4 here, which make it a hide-away from work for those wanting to dine in. - Angel H.Honolulu, HI

It was my first time at the Fort St. location and it's consistent with their other restaurants. I always get the B2 bento and the hubby the B7 bento. The B2 bento comes with two pieces each of ahi nigiri and salmon nigiri, with four pieces of seaweed wrapped ahi poke nigiri. The B7 bento comes with three scoops of fish( spicy ahi, spicy salmon, ahi poke) on your choice of rice. We always get the sushi rice. All bentos come with miso soup for $12. The Dillingham location also comes with miso soup. The Ala Moana location comes with seaweed soup.
The fish is always fresh. They get it every morning from the auction at Pier 38. The cuts of fish are always thick and yummy. This location doesn't charge tax. - Rob B.Honolulu, HI
3/29/2019Aloha, if you want super fresh fish for a great price, this is by far the best Ahi & Vegetable in town. Sol & Jane with their daughter run this fabulous restaurant doing quick-serve for lunch & early dinner, nice. Sol wakes up early to hit the fish market so you'll have the freshes & most tender fish ever, Sol knows how to pick fish! It's so gourmet, you really should bring your white table cloth, reidel glasses with wine & voila, you'd think you were at the best sushi restaurant in town. Doing the take-out platters is really worth it too. Such a deal! Enjoy!

7/13/2019Was craving sushi during lunch and decided to add some fresh ahi akami nigiri to the meal! Got the 5 piece! Not gonna lie after having some amazing sashimi in Japan this sushi was a bit too fishy for me. Yes I know what can I expect it's raw fish?! The rice to fish ratio was perfect! Mixed Shoyu (soy sauce) and Wasabi together and dipped the fish in it and it helped to cut the fishy taste! The texture of the fish was perfect! I look forward to trying the other sushi options there but the ahi nigiri was good!

12/3/2018I think I have found my new go to place in Honolulu. After a long flight from NYC my friends and I stopped in here to get some sashimi and other goodies. The staff was super friendly and the food was extremely fresh and affordable. A huge plate of sashimi for $14 and they gave us free appetizers of salmon.
Amazing peanut/sesame sauce too! - Erica S.Honolulu, HI
9/18/2017My boyfriend tells me that he always comes here for lunch so I thought I should try it out too. I'm a huge fan of poke and sashimi so my expectations were already high. Ahi & vegetable is cheap for the quality of fish they provide. I got the sashimi salad which usually comes with ahi and salmon but I was in the mood for hamachi and the employees were kind enough to substitute for no charge!
The salad is offered with a variety of dressings that you can choose from. Also if you want a full meal, you can add on miso soup and sushi rice for an additional $1 each. Portions are quite generous and for my salad, it was only $10!
Parking: free parking that is shared by the many different business.
Ambience: Casual. There a lot of tables and the space is quite large. However my boyfriend told me that at lunch, it can get really crowded.
Definitely coming back! - Kekai B.Mililani, HI
7/9/2018This is a good place to go if you work downtown. I usually get the spicy ahi bowl with sushi rice and it comes with a side of miso soup. Prices are reasonable - $10 for the bowl and the bentos are $12. If you want to eat there, you may want to get in early to beat the lunch crowd because it's pretty small with only a few tables and chairs.

7/3/2018I wanted something for the plane and got a surprisingly good unagi maki on Fort Street Mall. The rooms address made ro order. Must cater to a lunch crowd but opened until 6pm on a Monday so you can probably pick up dinner ro take home. Maki rice was seasoned well and unagi had a good teri flavor.

6/3/2017Wanted spicy ahi for lunch and Ahi & Vegetable is one of the few spots in DT that will use fresh ahi and not previously frozen. As a result the price is a couple dollars more than the other grab and so sushi joints in the area.
Grabbed the spicy ahi donburi which was $10 and included miso soup. Choice of regular or sushi rice with a generous portion of spicy ahi. Great flavor with good spice level and not overly heavy on the Mayo. Like the fact they cut the pieces of fish smaller than supermarkets.
Menu is huge and line can get long but your order is made quicky by the very friendly staff. - Brad B.Honolulu, HI22 friends89 reviews46 photos

ONO Grindz!!! When you see a restaurant get fresh fish delivery every morning; one would think fresh food right? That is the case here SUPER FRESH and great selection. Whether you are in the mood for a bento; to try a little bit of a few items; or hands down hungry for poke you must stop at Ahi & Vegetable. My favorite is the spicy ahi bowl; great flavor, good level of spice and 3 different rice options too. Only downsides (not that they are one) but the spicy ahi retains the shape of the ice cream scoop they use so serve it up and the rice is SO Fresh by the time I get back to the office the poke is warm. Almost forgot to mention the free miso soup with every order!

Looking for a hoodie in summer in Hawaii led me to Walmart. I was hungry so walked through the mall area and found Ahi & Vegetable. The pictures outside looked good so went I for a quick lunch.
The menu is quite large so it's hard deciding but I selected the Sushi Bento that came with Miso Soup,had 2 Salmon & 2 Tuna Nigiri, 2 spicy ahi, and 4 pieces of a California Roll. The Miso Soup was delicious! It warmed me and made me feel less tired from shopping. The spicy ahi was amazing. Just the right spiciness and luscious. The nigiri were good size and tender. And the California Roll is always surprisingly good and simple. I had half left so will enjoy it tomorrow as well. It was a great deal too for $12 since there was so much food and I love having it a second day!
The place is small with a number of tables and chairs. It's pretty plain but very clean. Service was very good and friendly. I recommend it to anyone shopping in the area-stop by and give it a try! - Marisa C.Aiea, HI117 friends68 reviews52 photos

Working in downtown, you tend to eat at the same restaurants for lunch. I've been to the location in Kalihi a couple times, but I've never been to the Fort Street location. It's pretty surprising since we pass by at least twice a week. Like always, I didn't know what I wanted to eat, and my coworkers decided on eating at a place a couple of stores down. I seen a lot of people in here waiting, so I decided that I should go in and try.
When I walked in, it was standing room only, which I always take as a good sign. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my order in, since there was a pretty good line ahead of me. I did notice that the food was coming out pretty fast, so it never got too crowded in the small space. Since there was only one register, they were taking orders of the people in line and the line was to wait to pay- efficient. Really good since most people here just want to grab there food and go.
I ordered the spicy ahi bowl. This is the first time I've ordered anything with spicy ahi at an Ahi & Vegetable. It was good, and came with a lot of ginger (which I don't eat) and some bok choy. It also came with some miso soup on the side, which is always good. The fish to rice ratio was pretty generous (IMO) as well.
All in all, I'll be back more often. And I'm a fan of their spicy ahi now too! - Stuart W.Honolulu, HI218 friends11 reviews

8/21/2018It's been a long time since we've written a review but we felt this warranted a negative review.
I've always loved this place for over 8 years. It was always fresh.
Today a coworker and I got there at noon thinking we'd have to wait in the long line. The place was very empty. We thought hmmm, strange but we ordered anyway.
We commented how expensive it seemed but didn't think much about until we opened our containers. My sushi - smaller than before. My coworkers spicy ahi bowl, wow so small.
We both thought our spicy ahi tasted rather old. Nasty. The hamachi was also very fishy. Reminded me of Saba.
The only thing that tasted decent was the salmon.
Hoping we don't get stomach aches from the spicy ahi. And we both vowed to never go here again.
