Jackie put me right to work. She always had a lot of places I could sub at, and if I didn't like one for whatever reason, she was happy to help me move to another spot. I did this job a year ago, and it really gave me the confidence to apply for teaching positions.
Thanks for all your help Jackie (and sorry for not returning your calls when I got to working for the district!)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura H.San Francisco, CA08Aug 9, 2023
I interviewed with Jen and Jacky . The process was smooth. They reply promptly to texts . I am LOVING this company and the assignments. You get to choose which days you can work and they try to place you near home. All the schools I have worked at are EXCELLENT. Pay is weekly ! You also earn sick leave. Highly recommend! You do need to pay for your fingerprints but you will earn it back in one day.

Great company to start off on the field of Child Development. If you want to be a preschool teacher is a great place to know schools and get to know people. I have worked with Jacky on and off for many years and there is always tons of work. Very respectful and they work with your schedule.

I'm speaking from the perspective of a former employee.
Substitute preschool teaching is not for everyone, after all it is difficult to drive to a new place at a moment's notice, but if you're going to be working this type of job, A Plus Subs is a good company to work for, and Jackie is an excellent person to work for.
She had work available for me every day. Which is a big deal, in this type of job.
I worked for this company over the course of a couple of years, and assigned positions got better as my credentials got better.
Jackie and Jen were easy to contact, too. Yes, it is true that around the middle of the day one would have to leave a voicemail, but it was always promptly returned. After all, they begin taking calls very early in the morning-you can't expect someone to do that around the clock.
(As for the reviewer who said he got sent to work without a fingerprint clearing/paperwork, AND who then complained that they only sent him to work as a "group leader" (for after school programs) and never as a teacher, I imagine that the reason he didn't get to work as a teacher was BECAUSE he never got his fingerprints taken or got that paperwork done. His second complaint cancels out his first.)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jen R.Carlsbad, San Diego, CA33Jul 27, 2018
This sub agency has an absolute lifesaver for me! Knowing that I can call Jackie and solve even my last minute staffing issues has removed so much stress from my day. The substitutes have been so flexible, timely, and loved by children. I highly recommend using A Plus Subs!

So I've been working with A plus subs for a couple months now and it is hands down one of the best jobs I have ever had. With that said, being a substitute is not for everyone, but with A Plus Subs you can make your own schedule, work for schools long term, and you get the opportunity to meet so many new people. I always heard that Jackie (the boss) was really nice so when I needed a new job I did not hesitate to call A Plus Subs and I was not proven wrong. She puts you right to work, which is very beneficial for people looking for an immediate job. I am moving out of state and sadly this company isn't everywhere, but when I come back I will re-apply with no hesitation. The pay is pretty good for this field as well. I would honestly rate this job a 10/10, you're going to love how empathetic Jackie is and how well she works with your schedule, the flexibility, and the hiring process.

Right after I graduated college, I replied to one of Jackie's A+ Subs ads on Yelp. She immediately interviewed me, told me I needed to get some paperwork done, and then she would put me straight to work, and that I would easily be working 40 hours. So, I paid 150 bucks to get my TB test and background check done, I quit one of my jobs, and hoped for the best!
Jackie called me twice and then didn't for two weeks. So, I got a new job. Then, she called me a few times a week, and I worked when I could.
First of all, I don't have child development units. I'm an English major, Education minor, but I never took those courses. Jackie said it wasn't a problem, and it even says so on her website. Teacher aides do not need any child development units to substitute teach. Well...almost every single pre-school I subbed at FREAKED out. It's against the law to leave little kids around someone with no child development units, so almost every single school I went to were pissed off and had to call some teacher from some other classroom to work with me. Thank you for that information, Jackie. You are so useful. One of the preschool directors sighed and said, "We like Jackie but she has no idea what the requirements actually are for the state". Cool.
Second, my second check never came. I waited a week and then called her. She just became really angry and rude and accused me of not writing down the right address even though my first check arrived promptly. She finally snapped, "Alright well I'll just cancel it, even though it will cost me fifteen dollars. That's kind of a lot for your 100 dollar check." Excuse me????
She called me one day saying the check she sent me got "returned" but I'm pretty sure she screwed up because she wrote me a new check. If my check "returned back to her" she would have just sent me the same check.
Basically...don't work for her. She's rude, work is inconsistent, and she's not organized at all.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kelly L.Santee, CA04Sep 4, 2019
Jackie is a lifesaver! I actually needed part time hours and she came through for me so I was able to take care of my mom too. She even found me a great place 5 min from my house that I didnt even know existed! Thank you thank you Jackie! A+Subs is the best!

The Good Points:
* Getting in touch with Jackie is a little hard, half the time I end up leaving messages. She does call back promptly which is good.
* She always has a substitute teacher available for us even at a short notice.
* She charges cheaper than other agencies.
The Bad Points:
* The quality of her stuff is not consistent at all. There are times we have a fully qualified person and other times we have someone with ZERO early childhood units. We even had someone who's fingerprint clearance was pending.
*Make sure you check the files of the people she sends over, which at many times is not complete and we have to do the work of trying to get the clearance numbers. This should be provided by the owner.
I'm giving her 3 stars because she is easy to work with and is reliable in providing a teacher, regardless of how qualified they are.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marijane S.Poway, CA40581Oct 3, 2013
I cannot thank Jackie enough..
My experience with the substitute teachers and assistants that have been sent to us at Montessori Child Development Center is very positive. They have been so helpful and always come prepared with their paperwork in hand. It is so nice to have qualified subs. I can rest easy knowing that if i have a staff emergency Jackie will find someone to help out.
