Located in Suffolk, Souper Pho and Banh Mi offers a clean and inviting ambiance that sets the stage for a delightful Vietnamese dining experience. During my visit, I explored an array of dishes that showcased the restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors and quality ingredients.
To kick off the meal, I started with the Fried Egg Rolls (Cha Gio). These slender, golden delights transported me to the streets of Vietnam with their savory taste. While unconventional, the Thai sweet chili sauce served alongside complemented the rolls surprisingly well, providing a unique twist to the traditional dipping experience. At $6.75 for 2 egg rolls, the price is steep but I would recommend getting them.
Opting for a refreshing beverage, I chose the Fresh Squeezed Sugar Cane Juice (Nuoc Mia) priced at $5.95. However, I found it oddly sour and not as sweet as expected. The citrus notes overwhelmed the drink, deviating from the typical sweetness associated with sugar cane juice. Perhaps a more balanced ratio, or fresher sugar cane might enhance this beverage.
Moving on to the main courses, the Large Souper Pho (Pho Dac Biet) at $15 showcased a well-executed bowl of traditional Vietnamese pho. The clear, perfectly seasoned broth housed a generous serving of thinly sliced rare beef, brisket, tendon, tripe, and delightful beef balls with a bouncy texture. Despite the flaw of overcooked rice noodles, the dish was a flavorful symphony, complete with condiments like bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeno slices, and lime wedges.
The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue) priced at $16.50 was a true highlight of the meal. The impeccably seasoned broth boasted just the right amount of spice, accompanied by a hearty mix of meats. The inclusion of pig feet added a delightful textural element, striking a perfect balance between chewiness and tenderness. Though outstanding, a nod to Vietnamese tradition could be achieved by offering shrimp paste, thinly sliced cabbage, and herbs on the side.
One standout feature of Souper Pho and Banh Mi is their Chili Options Triplex, which includes Chili Garlic Sauce (Sambal), House Hot Dry Chili Crisp, and House Hot Chili Oil. These flavorful additions elevate each bite, turning a simple meal into a tantalizing culinary adventure.
To round off my experience, I opted for the Foot-Long Combination Banh Mi priced at $13.95. While the protein content was satisfactory, the sandwich fell short due to its excessive saltiness and a baguette that lacked lightness and fluffiness. Despite this, the expansive menu and the promise of diverse Vietnamese flavors ensure I will return to explore other culinary gems at Souper Pho and Banh Mi.
In conclusion, Souper Pho and Banh Mi stands as a promising Vietnamese culinary haven in Suffolk, offering a genuine taste of Vietnam with room for improvement. The restaurant's commitment to quality and authenticity, particularly in their pho and bun bo hue, makes it a worthwhile destination for those seeking an accessible and flavorful Vietnamese dining experience.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

So went here expecting something amazing by the reviews and was a bit disappointed.
I ordered Egg Rolls, Bun Bo Hue to eat in and a Banh Mi to go.
The Egg Roll was a bit off, not sure what was wrong with it but it wasn't what I'm use to ... these were almost similar to lumpia vs viet Egg rolls... the meat inside was very compacted and didn't have the flavors like a normal vietnamese egg roll.
The sauce they give you is the thick sweet chili sauce vs the fish sauce ... which you can ask for instead which I did .
The Bun Bo Hue was way off... was lacking the flavor of BBH and had more of a vietnamese beef stew taste ... the thick peices of meat in there was very chewy and had a strong Bo Kha (beef stew ) states so it throws off the flavors of the rest of the dish ... the hue and spiciness was lacking and had to ask for more on the side with shrimp paste to try to fix the flavor.
Overall was a bit disappointed... the banh mi wasn't bad ...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Nice and cozy! Warm fall decor! Hot soup! Who could ask for more?!
What a wonderful dining experience!
I had the Souper wings; Noodle Soup with eye round steak, flank, and brisket; and a coconut and matcha boba!
Everything was well made and service was great!
The decor is very fall oriented right now and the music that plays compliments the decor perfectly and creates a relaxing environment!
I couldn't find a reason to not give them 5 stars.
If you're looking for good Pho, in a great environment with great service, go here!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

They make their food SOUPER delicious every time!! My favorite thing to order here has to be the Souper Bowl where each bite is so flavorful and filling. Their Thai tea is also good and has more of a richer taste to it compared to other ones in the area. The ambiance inside is warm and comforting through the friendly service they provide. Not one bad interaction here and the food is consistent.

Thank you for an awesome review. love it
Jan 31, 2021Previous reviewI was there for the soft opening today and their actual grand opening will be tomorrow Monday, February 1st. As far as service, the servers are still in training so if you decide to go, please go not expecting everything to be perfect. Even then, service was friendly and all smiles. If you have been to a Pho 79 before, the food is of similar Vietnamese cuisine but with a few new additions. They offer wings and lamb chops here on the menu, although they do not currently have it ready to order just yet. One thing I'm really excited about is that here you are able to order a bowl of Pho and half a Banh Mi for just $2 extra, which is sooo good because I crave a Banh Mi but I never can finish a whole one along with a soup.
I ordered the B1, Souper Bowl which contains vermicelli noodles, chicken, beef, pork, and veggies. This also does contain peanuts for those who have peanut allergies but you can always ask for no peanuts. The one thing I do like about the B1 from here is that the meat does not come on skewers. They come already cut which is perfect so you can easily mix it all up and not have to fight with the food just to get it off the skewer. The meat in the dish had sort of a Korean barbecue taste which I actually love but for those wanting that usual lemon grass marination, it might be a bit different for you. Oh and egg rolls, as always, were amazing.
The establishment is right next to a Starbucks so that can give you the kind of feel on what the inside might be like, causal. Definitely not a big restaurant but with the high ceiling, it does make it feel more roomy and open.
I can't wait to see how this place grows. - 1233391896Dec 8, 2023Updated review

Please please please Take the time to stop by this is worth the drive from the ocean front this is worth the drive from Williamsburg this is definitely a place you don't want to miss out on - 4583214Oct 31, 2023
This is definitely a great place to stop in and grab something to eat. The food is always delicious. They have a number of meatless options which is nice. Try the bao buns with tofu and you won't be disappointed. They are a meal in itself. The boba tea is tasty as well. The restaurant is clean with plenty of seating. Service though can be hit or miss. I won't give them less stars because of that but just know sometimes you may have to wait a while for the food. The owner is the best though. He is so friendly and when he is there, things are top notch.

Five years ago, when I first arrived in Hampton Roads and I looked at the food scene in the area, it seemed like most of the good restaurants were in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area. However, having lived in Suffolk for a year and change and dined at several restaurants in that area, I discovered that Suffolk has a fast growing food scene and has, on several occasions, even met and exceeded my high expectations. Yesterday's lunch at Souper Pho was one such occasion.
It's conveniently located off of Bridge Road in Northern Suffolk, in a small strip mall adjacent to Starbucks, a bank and a few other businesses. Inside, the space is large, with high ceilings and plenty of booths and tables, and a counter space leading to the kitchen. The tables are well-spaced and overall, the interior seems pretty clean and well maintained.
They have a decent sized menu with plenty of dishes to choose from. Most of them seem pretty authentic. For apps, I ordered shrimp spring rolls (A3) and pork bao buns (A9). For my bowl of pho, I went with my favorite combo, of eye round steak, flank and tendon (P7). And for my drinks, I had a lychee oolong bubble tea with tapioca and a freshly made glass of sugar cane juice!
I'm gonna start off with the drinks. That freshly made sugar cane juice was AMAZINGGG. They have this big machine in the back towards the entrance of the kitchen, that the staff puts whole fruits through and grinds down into actual juice. Like, I legit saw the waitress take whole pieces of sugar cane and put them through the machine and she brought over a big glass of fresh sugar cane juice. The last time I had fresh sugar cane juice was like back in 2009 when I visited China. Fresh, cold glass of sugar cane juice. So refreshing! The bubble tea was decent too. Lychee oolong tea tasted good. Wasn't too sweet.
Shrimp spring rolls is a classic appetizer in Vietnamese restaurants and their version actually uses a peanut butter and hoisin based dipping sauce. The popular Pho chain restaurant, Pho 79, on the other hand, uses a dipping sauce that's pretty much entirely hoisin with some chopped up bits of peanut on top. Just doesn't taste the same. Entirely hoisin sauce is too sweet.
Pork bao buns were a decent effort. I wish the buns themselves were more fluffy. There was a decent amount of pork in the buns, and the meat had pretty good flavor. However, there was also a huge amount of extra vegetable condiments on top and as a finger food, I thought it was just too much going on. Instead of the cucumbers and stuff, just add some shredded scallions, cilantro or mint on top and that should be enough.
Now for the bowl of pho. There was a slight mix-up with my order, which I only noticed a few minutes after the waitress left my table. I was still working on the bao buns, so I didn't notice at first. Instead of the bowl with tendon, she had brought the bowl with tripe in it and I don't mess with tripe. I don't like consuming organs or parts of organs and tripe is no different for me. I ended up picking out a good amount of tripe from the bowl and I waved the waitress over and pointed out the mistake. And I was like, I'll keep this bowl, but just get me a side bowl of tendon, which she did, so I'm not gonna a big deal over this honest mistake. The bowl of pho tasted great and the broth had rich flavor and I was very pleased!
Overall, this was a great first experience at Souper Pho. Aside from that small hiccup with the tripe in the pho and the over-complicated pork bao buns, I felt this was a successful lunch here. Service was great and consistent. I'll definitely be back in the near future to try other stuff from their menu!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

If I lived closer this would be my pho joint! Alas, I live about 45 minutes away but know if I am in the vicinity, I will stop by for some delicious food!
Pros: Besides all around yummy food that we tried (egg rolls, fresh summer rolls, chicken pho and fried chicken wings) they offer five different fillings for their fresh summer rolls! You usually only see shrimp or vegetarian but you could also get grilled chicken, grilled pork and grilled beef. We tried the beef, pork and shrimp. They were large and had quite a bit of filling! Got the pho to go and it was packed very nicely and it was easy to make my pho at home!
Cons:
Service was slow. I think that they were either down someone in the kitchen and a server. Not their fault but just wanted to give a heads up.
$8 for two of the crispy egg rolls is a bit high. If I had gotten 4 with the order understandable but $4 a piece is a little outrageous.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

I heard about this place from a fellow Yelper, that they serve nuoc mia (sugar cane drink) fresh squeezed. Just like back in Vietnam. I drove all the way to Suffolk from VB and I was not disappointed.
The odd thing though is that nuoc mia isn't even listed on the beverages/drinks!! So first tip - ask for it, it's their best kept secret, literally!!
The restaurant is clean, modern and tastefully decorated with Vietnamese artwork. Oh you can't miss the nice scented entrance (I think they hide an air freshener by the large plant pot by the "foyer".
Service is good, ladies promptly greet you and ask what you'd like to drink. I ordered a Bun Bo Hue (noodle soup with pig knuckles and blood cubes). Everything about the soup is authentic. One way to know that they are authentic , you can ask for which they will serve - mam ruoc (shrimp paste) that brings out the flavor of the bun Bo hue.
And the soup was delicious! I ordered two appetizers to go - pork bao bun and goi cuon (fresh summer roll). Am sure they will taste great.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

I went here one day on my way home when the weather was screaming for me to eat soup LOL. But seriously, the chicken pho was pretty good. I like how they have a "pho" to-go kit. It has the noodles, protein, sprouts, jalapeños, cilantro, basil, the sauces. The service was fine; she took my order and within 10 minutes I was out of the door.
The layout was the standard restaurant layout with booths and tables. I also like that it's next door to Starbucks - win win!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information
