Super cute little place! Perfect for a happy hour after work with friends or colleagues. They have a fully stocked bar!
The staff was friendly and very attentive.
All of the food was delicious, we tried almost everything on the appetizers list! My favorite was the pork empanadas and Korean fried chicken. Everything was well seasoned and had lots of flavor!
Would definitely recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3046451611Mar 2, 2023
My friend and I were actually heading somewhere else when we stumbled across this gem. Our timing was perfect because we arrived at 4pm when they open. Thankfully we arrived when we did because the place is intimate. I believe about 20 or so people can fit, comfortably, in the entire spot (bar and table seating included). You might miss it because there's no signage outside and parking might be challenging but it's worth it.
The intimate setting made for a wonderful opportunity to talk to the amazing bartenders there that night, Russell and Noah. Their playlist, energy and congeniality made us not want to leave. We had such a good time with them that I went back again shortly after this visit. Did I mention they are great?
The drinks were great and on my second visit I tried the Kiwi Sour that I saw everyone order the first time. Loved it and the glass it comes in. For food, I've only tried the Curried Brussel Sprouts which were delicious. My friend got the burger and said it was one the best she's had in a while. Based on the smells from the kitchen, other orders I've seen and reviews, I can't wait to try more of the menu. I'll be back soon!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 14, 2023
I have been to this neighborhood several times and while it is small the people are friendly and the cocktails are amazing. I have had a dirty gin martini, a cucumber gimlet and black Manhattan and all were delicious. The food is delectable as well. I had the roasted beets appetizer and it was the perfect combo of sweet and savory. Mmm. I'm so sad this place is closing down! Take this as a plea to stay open! Sigh.

We kept hearing about this (truly) hidden gem from neighbors - what a find! It's about as non-descript as they come on the outside, and it's a cozy setting on the inside: classic converted rowhome. The seating is limited (and either 2-seaters or communal) so reservations are in your favor, especially if you have limited mobility/aren't able to do extra-high seating (some of their tables are very comfy looking high-tops).
We asked about portion sizes, especially for their small plates, and our server (who was GREAT!) said his rule of thumb for a group of four is 6 small plates + 2 sandwiches. This was pretty on-point. Here's what our table of four got to share for the table!
Small plates:
- White bean hummus (so good with the pepper and olive toppings)
- Crispy pork belly confit (good flavor, melt-in-your-mouth pork)
- Korean fried chicken (nicely done but is spicy)
- Cauliflower burnt ends (not quite "burnt" but great flavors)
- Crispy Spanish octopus (nice char, good meaty octo)
- White bean and pancetta soup (tomato-based broth packed with flavor)
Entrees:
- Venison shoulder bolognese (light sauce but on-point flavor - really delicious, esp with those hen of the woods mushrooms)
Desserts:
- Chocolate peanut butter tart (tasty; as advertised!)
- Caramel apple bread pudding (tasty; as advertised!)
We ordered in waves, two or three dishes at a time, which worked perfect with our night's pacing (laid back and enjoyable). We'd agreed early on to get both desserts (=instructions to leave room!) and share everything. Everyone else at the table was good after 5 of the small plates+bolognese; I ordered the soup as a final savory cap basically for myself.
The small plates portions were very comfortable sharing across four people: everyone was very comfortably full by the end (no leftovers)! All of the dishes had really well composed, thoughtful flavors. We also ordered drinks across the table (2 drinks per person over our stretched meal). It wasn't a cheap night out but it was a REALLY good night out (and I think it would be easy to manipulate your combination of small plates/sandwiches/drinks/entrees differently than we did if you don't want to make an expensive night of it all). Our server was also fantastic - I forget his name, but he was 24 years old and had black glasses! He was attentive and observant, suggested ordering in waves (which was just great), and even offered to whip up a custom cocktail concoction (which was delicious).
We will definitely be back!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 18, 2022Updated review
Can't believe I haven't rated this gem yet. Third time here! Main problem with 1157 is how small the venue space is--so we've always tried to get there as early as we can to get a seat. Only one table indoors that seats more than 2!
But the cocktails and the the food are amazing. Flavor bursts, just plain delicious. This time we majored in appetizers (forgot to take a photo of the cauliflower burnt ends), and all agreed the pork belly won (because it almost always wins) but also decided there wasn't a loser--apps were all delicious!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0May 11, 2019Previous reviewOur neighbor recommended this place so we came here for an early dinner around 6 on a rainy Saturday and 3 of us were able to be seated right away. Drove right past the place because it looked like a row house!
We each had a cocktail: bloody mule (Moscow mule with blood orange), pimm's cup and black Manhattan. Each of us was happy with our drink.
Based on other yelpers we ordered 6 small plates which was plenty of food, and we enjoyed them all: burrata salad, crispy octopus, white bean hummus, curried Brussels, Korean chicken wings, pork belly. Not a disappointment among them!
It's a tiny place with a nice vibe. Highly recommend! - 174258891Feb 14, 2023
This is one of South Baltimore's hidden gems. We stumbled across 1157 on the recommendation of a neighbor and loved everything we tried! Fair warning - this spot is very popular and almost always packed in the evenings. Parking can also get a bit spotty. Going as a group can get tricky as I don't believe they take reservations, but we have been here for date night and were able to get bar or booth seating fairly easily. When the weather is better they offer outdoor seating too. Their menu isn't extensive, but everything they do offer is excellent (both vegetarian and non-veg dishes). Drinks are fantastic too and everything is priced very reasonably. We will continue to be regular patrons here!

Two of my friends raved about this spot so of course I had to check it out! So glad I called ahead and made a reservation over the phone for Friday night, otherwise I'm not sure I would have gotten a table. Reservations are definitely uncommon here though! There was already a line out the door when I arrived around 6pm. There are tiny booths for 2 and seating at the bar, with just one large table to seat groups- just something to keep in mind!
We got a glass of wine and the bloody mule while waiting for our food to come out. The bartenders were so speedy! The mule was nice and strong, but I couldn't quite taste the blood orange syrup.
We ordered the cauliflower "burnt ends", curried brussels sprouts, braised lamb shank ravioli, and Cuban braised pork shank. The cauliflower had a delicious punchy flavor, and the ravioli was perfectly cooked and tender. We loved the pork shank too- delightfully crispy on the top with super tender meat. The star of the night was the Brussels sprouts! The texture was perfect and the curry sauce was to die for! I don't think we left a single drop left on the plate.
The only downside to this place is how little seating they have. If you're thinking about giving this spot a try, do it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 30, 2021
Food here is good. Service is nice and attentive.
Came here with a group of friends for dinner one night and had a very pleasant experience. We ordered a few appetizers to share and they were decent. The only thing that wasn't good was the cheeseboard. The brussels sprouts was OK, nothing to rave about, and small portions.
We got a couple entrées to share, the short rib sandwich was super tasty. The flavor was right and the quinoa salad that come with the entrée was also very delicious. We finish the meal with a chocolate peanut butter tart with heavy cream on top. That dessert was out of this world.
Good experience.Helpful 21Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 0 - Apr 24, 2022
I can't believe it has taken me so long to get over to 1157! I had heard good things from friends and neighbors, but I'm lazy and don't go to nice places super often.
My wife and parents took me out for my birthday and this was top of my list of places to try. Getting a reservation was a bit of a mess, we called early but missed the staff and by the time we got through there wasn't much availability. That said, we were a party of 4 and I think they only have a single indoor table that seats more then 2, so this was just bad luck. We ended up getting a table outside very easily, so it all worked out in the end!
Anyways, onto the food and drink. To make a long story short, it was AMAZING? We tried most of the small plates. The highlights were the Brussels sprouts (different than what we were expecting, but so good we ordered a second round of it) and the short rib sandwhich. The Korean wings were also very good (I typically skip wings, but theses were so tasty I had a few).
In addition to the great food, we ordered cocktails and were impressed both by how tasty they were and also how reasonably priced and generously portioned. We had gone to pre-dinner cocktails elsewhere and the ones from 1157 won hands down.
Finally, we got a chocolate and peanut butter tart that was killer.
If I were to go back again and order just for myself, I would get the black Manhattan, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and chocolate tart.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 5, 2022
Always a good time and great food! I discovered this place earlier this year and went back in Saturday night! The food and people are one of the best combinations!! The staff really make the experience ten times better! They are funny, give great recommendations and just make you feel like home! It gives big CHEERS vibes! I have been wanting to explore the menu so trying as much as I can! The first time I had the burger, Brussels and pork belly!! All were so delicious and out of this world! On Saturday we had the cauliflower ( super light and yummy), the lamb sloppy gyro and the fried chicken sandwich! Both entrees were amazing! Super flavorful and packed with a different take on the standard base items! We finished off with the chocolate peanut butter tart! Mmmmm so good! I loved it! The drinks are equally as good! My go toos are the lavender gin fizz or the strawberry tequila! Overall 10/10 and would recommend for low key dining, meeting with friends or just because!
