Have Your Cheesecake And Yelp It, Too!

Foodistablog

It looks so innocent...

You may not have heard, but this coming Thursday is National Cheesecake Day. That's right – in just two days, prepare to indulge in this creamy, cheesy, decadent treat. Heck, it's practically your patriotic duty! To help you prep, this Weekly serves up some sweet slices, sure to maximize your caloric intake for days to come, and then some.

Want to live “La Dolce Vita”? Simply follow Sabrina B to the restaurant on Woodward. Not only is the service top-notch, and the ambiance “old-school Italian,” but the chocolate raspberry cheesecake is downright “droolworthy!” Close by, Aaron K gets his sugar high at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge by digging into the turtle cheesecake and delighting in spectacular talent at “the best jazz club in Detroit, hands down.” Cherice J, however, favors Astoria’s “splendid” dairy delights in Greektown. She gleefully explains that they have “frozen cheesecakes that you can take home and pretend you made!” We won't tell!

Up in Ferndale, Toni C is hesitant to yelp her love for Hilton Road Café, but ultimately decides that it’s “so good... it deserves all the business it can get.” What divine dessert does she devour? She insists you “treat yourself to the black forest cheesecake.” Katie P and her son were “oooo oooo-ing for more” of Compari’s tropical take on cake: “mango flavored cheesecake with a layer of raspberry cheesecake – finally topped with mango topping and sprinkled with powdered sugar.” And over in Saint Clair Shores, the appropriately-named Cheesecake Shoppe doesn't disappoint. Sandra B had an "OMG - heaven!" moment when she tried their apple version: " It was soooooo creamy and not too rich with... little chunks of apples in the cream cheese filling... My eyes were rolling in the back of my head!"

If you favor fruity flavors farther north, you might spy Rob F lounging on the comfy sofas at Rochester's Mind Body & Spirits. There he’s found “no question – the best cheesecake I have ever tasted... cinnamon crust, fresh raspberries and blueberries on top – I never wanted it to end. We ate it ridiculously slow just to savor it.” There truly is a cheesecake out there for everyone. Take Todd T, for example, who goes nutty over Northville’s Red Pepper Deli's raw vegan strawberry cheesecake, "all raw and made from cashews! No one would ever know the difference.” Your belly will know the difference, Todd, but it's gonna be ok.

"To tag on to my girl, marisa's review...I am also pissed I wasn't the first to review since I used to work there...but she starts her review the same way I will...

220 is always a solid dinner spot in birmingham. always busy, always good food and always full of cougars and viagra-poppers alike.…"
Tiffany D. on Centaur Bar
"This used to be my neighborhood bar, where all the bartenders knew our name and our night was Thursday night and you could always find me at the second floor bar.

I've probably changed a little, but this place has changed too.  Some of my favorite martinis are no longer on the menu, and the…"
Mary Y. on Rocky Peanut Co.
"If you've ever tried to remember that candy you REALLY liked in 3rd grade, hit Rocky Peanut.  There it is, complete in the original package.  You can also stock up on every nut imaginable, as well as oddities like "cheesecake in a jar"--by far the grossest thing I've seen there.

Lines can be long…"
