Pho Thai

Before entering, my mind-set was "okay, i love pho and this is just going to be another typical pho restaurant and then after eating, i will continue to live happily ever after."

LITTLE DID I KNOW, this place had more than just good pho, but the atmosphere really took me away. The restaurant really had the ambiance I was looking for especially after a long day of stress from school, work and killer LA traffic.

I loved how I immediately felt as if I had entered a tropical island of some sort right when I entered the door. I couldn't help but nudged my friend and shared my feelings at the moment with him and he gave me a weird look as if it was my very time entering a pho restaurant.

He was right.

It really was my first time entering a pho restaurant with that great of an ambiance that every pho lover and customer so deserve!

Just a heads up, what i want to call this place, my little pho 'paradise' also has a little bar with a good selection of draft beers. NOT ONLY THAT, but they also have karaoke! SAY WHAT!!! As a pho fanatic, Hands down to Pho Thai, the restaurant with the whole package I've been adventuring for and have finally found.

I dont speak vietnamese but Cam Ung!

Sunday Bistro

Category: Chinese
Neighborhood: Alhambra

Talk about HK Cafe food deprived. I'm definitely one of the victims from Irvine. I still can't believe how there isn't even  ONE HK Cafe in Irvine with the asian invasion population we have here.

If i had the money to, I would've opened one up the year I moved here.

So every weekend, Sunday Bistro's definitely one of the restaurants that crosses my mind when I visit home in LA. I personally think it  tops most of the cafes in the SGV, Monterey Park, and Alhambra area.

Yes, service SUCKS and with the impatient personality that i have, i want to explode everytime i'm there. Okay, over exaggerating but what i learned from the horrible service that we get here is that... you gotta be strong. YOU GOTTA BE MEAN and show those waiters/waitresses who's boss. Obviously, YOU ARE the boss being their costumers. They're not the ones paying for the food being served. So make sure they treat you well in the sense where you get what you want and the prompt service you deserve. Then again, I sometimes worry for what surprises i might get in my food =\
but hey, you gotta do whatcha gotta do to not only enjoy the food you get but what you deserve being their loyal costumer.

So some of the dishes i would recommend:
1.) Indonesian Fried Rice (Honestly, my favorite.)
2.) X.O. Seafood Fried Rice
3.) Lamb chops w/ Grilled Shrimps in black pepper sauce
4.) Rib Eye w/ Enoki Mushroom Hot Pot
5.) Shimmered Short Ribs in Hot Pot
6.) Free-Range Chicken (Mom's fav.)
7.) Minced Beef w/ Vermicelli
8.) Ong Choy
9.) Sauteed Frog Hot Pot (Yes, frogs. it's delicious here)
10.) Clay Pot Chicken Rice

The portions are huge. Order accordingly! Remember, YOU ARE THE BOSS. =)

Note: perfect not only for breakfast, lunch, dinner but also post- drinking. Definitely what i call... LEGIT.

Kula Sushi Bar

It's been slightly 2 months since I've visited Diamond Jamboree and it's really nice to see how many new restaurants have opened.

I got out of a 3 hour meeting, tired, hungry and sleepy. It was around 9pm when two of my friends and I stepped into Kula Sushi Bar. Of all the new places, we decided to give Kula a chance so "please don't let us down!" i silently said to myself. I was already a bit hesitant to try Kula because

1) the sushi made to go was yes, nicely wrapped but it definitely did not scream "FRESH" at all. or maybe i'm a picky sushi kid.

2) i didnt see why the waiters would be busy enough to ignore guests who were waiting to be seated. they literally looked and walked right pass us into the kitchen. there's that much to do?  i thought this joint was basically self-serve, no?

Yes, could've easily walked next door to get some delicious Pad See Ew or Capital Seafood but I like to give everything a chance because who know's!

$2 a plate? Cool. great way to appeal to many of us poor college kids. but dude, the size and quality of the sushi, how many plates do you have to get in order to get full?!! iono about you guys, but i definitely wouldnt be satisfied with just 3 or 4 or 5.

I'm definitely broke like every other college student  but $2 for 2 (or 3) pieces of not-so- fresh-and-not-yummy-in-my-tummy sushi... I'd rather pay a few more bucks to get myself a fulfilling plate of sushi heaven. possibly a place where you can enjoy a nice happy hour with delicious sushi and drinks. =)

Overall, i've had better experiences in Lil tokyo but it was a new experience and i guess, just give it a try!

Coconut Bay Bar & Grill

I'll get straight to the point in this review since it is... 4:30 in the morning..

PAD SEE EW. the only thing i've been ordering and will continue to only order when i come to coconut bay.

I'm sure locals are aware that there's "the boat" or "banana bay" to chose from too. but i'd have to say... coconut bay is my top choice. iono what it is... possibly the lively environment and how it can accommodate large groups of people... and a pretty chill place to enjoy a great sports game on their LCDs. anyway... all you have to keep in mind when you come to coconut bay is... PAD SEE EW, PAD SEE EW, PAD SEE FREAKING EW!!! OM NOM NOM.

The Shark Club

Category: Dance Clubs

4 star rating

4.5 golden stars

okay so this is actually my first drunk review. sad that there are so many negative reviews for shark club! but i actually had an amazing time here.

PROS:
no creepers
awesome bartenders

(it was two of my best girl friend's birthday and i just casually mentioned to one of the bartenders that it was my friend's birthday and he immediately made her one of the best drinks i've ever had in a while. it was a new drink that he created and he named it "sex on the island"... definitely took "sex on the beach" to a whole new delicious level!)
and hey... FREE H2O when you're dehydrated from all the dancing!

honestly, "shark club" sounded a bit iffy and watevers to me... but i guess having no expectations for it at all led me to just another amazing night.

the ambiance was greater than i expected... but then again, it could be because i had no expectations at all. but the draperies and curtains definitely added a nice, elegant touch to everything.

only thing is... the security control... was such a biznatch. but i understand since tonight was a 18+ event. meh... lol

anyway, i'd definitely come back to shark club for another awesome night.

i wish i remembered the bartender's name so i could tip him even better next time! even my guy friend agreed what great bartenders they had tonight. definitely a plus. =)

oh and i definitely cant leave this one out... the DJ was awesome!!!

Cirque du Soleil - O

Category: Performing Arts

5 star rating

You definitely haven't experienced Vegas to the fullest if you leave without seeing Cirque du Soleil's O show!!! I got lucky during my visits cus my parent's were able to get me complimentary tickets not once but twice to experience this breath taking, phenomenal show. I'd seriously pay if i had to cus it is seriously just... O-mazing. O-tastic. Ridiculous! If you're a Cirque fan, this is a must. I'm not going to go into any details but throughout the show, there's so much going on! Just how I like it, everything felt so spontaneous and even overwhelming (cus so much was going on at once) but it was seriously... elaborately and beautifully put together.

My first experience there, we sat in the very front row and we definitely got a bit wet... but i didnt care cus the show seriously just kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole night! (show lasted about ... less than 2 hours) but second time around... lesson learned. If you sit behind row D... you'll be safe and dry and the experience is just as spectacular! I definitely want to experience the show from the balcony seats one day though (FYI: heard it's actually less expensive AND you get the whole view of the stage!!!).

Seriously, do yourself the most memorable favor by treating yourself to enjoy this show. warning: it will sweep you off your feet =)

Lawry's Carvery

Categories: Sandwiches, American (Traditional)
Neighborhood: Downtown

4 star rating

It's just like the original Lawry's minus the ambiance and the full fancy dining experience you would get at La Cienaga.

Of course, at Lawry's, I went for the prime rib with creamy corn and mac&cheese. My mouth is starting to water as I'm typing this review. -_- Okay so I was just a bit disappointed because they didn't have my favorite: creamed spinach.  The cut I got was really tasty and barely had any fat on it, it was definitely appreciated.  At some prime rib joints, although I like a little fat, I don't want to to find that half of my plate is covered with fat at the end of my delicious meal.

Hmm i feel like this review isn't describing how enthusiastic I am but trust me, I am. I'm just really exhausted from the finals I had to take today. Anyway, what else... mm my dad and i especially like grabbing a bite here together (especially) when my mom is too lazy/tired to cook cus we get to enjoy a great Laker game together without my mom's constant pleads to change the channel -_-. and dude LA Live is literally right on the same block as you watch the game live on their big screen! Definitely a great place to grab a bite and to pregame before an event  of fun at Staples. :D

Yume Kitchen - CLOSED

Category: Chinese

4 star rating

Being a frequent San Gabriel Valley visitor the past 20 years of my life, I did not visit this place until a year ago. Well, I'm sure they haven't been open for that long... anyway, you know what i mean.

I consider Yume as one of those restaurants that you would just drive by, glance, give a little remark "hmm..." and then keep driving.

Well, I finally visited this restaurant because this guy decided to take me here for a date. lol. and it was surprisingly a pretty cute place!

anyway, thanks to him, i had the best big bowl of rice with flavor-bursting minced meat topped with dried seaweed! that wasn't the end of it, they even topped it with a cute little quail egg! By the way, this dish is called Saborro (sp?) lol gosh i want me a bowl RIGHT NOW!!!

The following visits I've only ordered the Saborro rice again and again. I'm pretty darn loyal to my favorite foods! :D But i did try this vermicelli dish with minced beef and enoki mushrooms that my friend ordered and it was pretty delishhhh!

I don't really recommend the drinks from here cus it's just... quite disappointing. -__- I usually like to order iced tea with honey (as simple as that drink sounds, not every place can make a perfect glass of it. or my taste buds are just extremely picky) and this place has disappointed me not once, not twice, but three times! Now i just stick with a cold glass of water... but sometimes, that could go wrong too... just kidding...

Anyway, definitely try their Saborro rice. it's a must!

love the ambiance
great service
great menu on drinks and their food/appetizers!
fun people
live Irish music and definitely gives you the real Irish pub feel
... as if the bar was built in Ireland and then shipped over to Tustin.

Happy St. Patrick's!!! No better place to celebrate the Irish holiday but at the Dubliner! :D
