Char's Hamburgers

Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt

Fast service, great prices, and really tasty stick-to-the-belly food is the perfect description for this popular family-owned restaurant, located a few blocks from U.S. 52, and an easy drive from I-40.   This restaurant brings back memories of earlier days when take-out joints had seating patterns of stools lined against the wall, where you could eat and look out the window to watch the traffic and people passing by. Daily specials change often, but Char's offers a wide variety of menu choices, which is not bad for a local operation.  As the name implies, the hamburger is the main attraction, but you can go for fish, hot dogs, and other selections as well.  The ice cream comes from the same machine as the milkshakes, and they taste pretty darn good, too!    If you wait too long to get your order, the staff will offer you a free drink, ice cream or milkshake on the house!  Char's wants your business, and they appreciate seeing you again and again!    Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and noon to 7 p.m. on Sundays...please call for exact times.

Two locations in Winston-Salem, with competitive prices to any other supermarket chain around!   Open from 9 am to 7 pm daily.  Friday: 9 am to 8 pm.  Sunday: Noon to 6 pm.

The map has marked the wrong position for this ALDI store: It is on West Hanes Mill Road, which is several blocks from U.S. 52. The store sits behind a tire and automotive center on the corner of University Parkway and West Hanes Mill Road, next to the North Forsyth High School campus (off Shattalon Drive).

Phone number is unlisted - ALDI has stores worldwide!  You will love their prices!   Since ALDI saves you money at the checkout, you can bring your own boxes and bags to place your items in!   Or you can leave your bags at home, and buy ALDI paper bags for a nickel apiece, ALDI regular plastic bags for 10¢ each, or the giant insulated bags (for wet and cold items) for $1.00.   If you want to use one of the shopping carts, simply place a quarter in the chain-release slot, and return it to the storage area when done to get your quarter back!

The second ALDI store in Winston-Salem is at 2715 Peters Creek
Parkway, ZIP 27127.  The business hours at this location are the same!

Hot Dog City

Now moving towards a second year of business as a convenient take-out restaurant, Hot Dog City is surprisingly affordable and delicious.  The menu,  which definitely features all-beef dogs, also offers customers many other selections besides the signature food, and prices are easy on the wallet.  Satisfaction is always guaranteed, and the cooks will prepare your order just the way you like it!  You have to try the half-pound jumbo dog, with prices starting around $5.00 -- believe me, this huge dog will take care of your stomach better than a regular meal!   All during the day, customers from all over town, including the lunchtime crowds from the dairy plant across the street, stop here to get their fill.  Hot Dog City is located at the traffic light on the corner of Glenn and Patterson Avenues in one of Winston-Salem's most-historic black neighborhoods.   Visit them sometimes...and buy one of their beef or turkey dogs for a buck and a few pennies, fixed any way you like it!  Business Hours: 10 am to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday; 10 am to 11 pm on Fridays; and 11 am to 11 pm on Saturdays.  Hot Dog City will give your taste buds a treat!
