This is a new park opened in late 2007. I only use it for the dog park and will just stick to reviewing that.
Overall, the dog park is fairly pathetic. Not the kind of pathetic that usually befalls dog parks where they stink, are not well kept up, too much dog volume, bad dog/owner personalities, etc. Those characteristics are non-existent here, mostly because it's brand new. Maybe it just hasn't grown into itself yet and needs more time, but the 30 minutes we spent there seemed like forever. I couldn't wait to leave and experience the many other superior dog areas SD has to offer. I'll probably come back because it's so close to my home. Don't make the special trip to come here, it's just not worth it - not yet at least.
There are separate areas for large and small dogs. I think there is a separate water fountain on each side. There is a single double-gated entrance that is placed in between the large and small sides. There are lots of poop bags provided. The park is clean, doesn't smell, and you won't have any problem avoiding stray poop left on the ground. Location is very good with a freeway entrance close by, UTC mall, local eateries, etc. a short drive away. Parking is ample.
You would think that since this is a very new dog park that it would be flush with great amenities since it can just copy and then build what has worked at every other dog park. You would think... The dog park is located at the south east corner of the park, the most difficult part of the park to get to and farthest away from the residential areas. While this may seem like a good idea bc of noise, it makes it a 10 minute uphill walk from the closest residence to here because the park is huge! I have a home right next to the park and I feel idiotic having to drive there because my Scottie would tire himself en route to the dog park! Each side has lots of dried grass that looks like it needs more water and makes the place kind of dreary looking dead grass color. There are several baby trees planted, but they don't provide any shade - one of those things that maybe needs to grow in more. Because of that, it gets unbearably hot for your dog and you. There is also no place to sit! There is a single stone bench in the double gated entrance! Who the hell thought of that? Maybe they're planning on adding more seating? While the small dog side is a decent size, the big dog size is only marginally bigger, which is fairly ridiculous. Not that it matter much because there are never many dogs here! There were two owners and two other dogs the weekend we went there. One owner was super chatty about himself and his mastiff, and the other owner was a bit withdrawn from people and her lab. All our dogs wanted to do was hide in the one small spot of shade from a greeting sign on the fence. Again maybe the volume will increase when people realize there's a dog park here. It was sad. I only stayed and waited half an hour hoping others would show up. No one did and we high tailed it over to the Del Mar dog beach where we had an awesome time.

Loma Linda, CA
Yelping SinceMarch 2008
Despite my strong negatives about this place, they are almost nullified by the location being in a very dog friendly shopping center. There is a large dog friendly patio right next to this Five Guys location and my rating is greatly boosted by the fact that I can bring my dogs here when people from out of town want a burger, noodles, or any other food they can sell you to go and we can all eat what we want at one of these patios, with the dogs. That may be unfair to prop up a restaurant because of a feature that they aren't mainly responsible for, but I will go the extra mile for a good dog friendly patio, especially out here in Redlands where there aren't very many. I really am a sucker for the peanuts and some of my family members would greatly value this feature. Unlike Gladstone's though, you can't just deposit your shells on the floor, but that's a small concession. The cleanliness of the place is good. Parking is ubiquitous.
I've been inside Five Guys while exploring the east coast, way before they came to CA and I remember thinking that it's nothing special and not even worthy of spending any money there. My impressions were only validated tonight. Their burger is not worthy of mention with other top tier fast food chain burgers. However, it's not the worst either, so I rate it 2 stars. Their rendition of a veggie burger is a travesty, especially here next to the vegetarian friendly city of Loma Linda. It is basically the same as a regular burger WITHOUT a beef patty or any patty of any kind. You're just paying for bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and cheese. That had me laughing out loud to think that I would pay for something like that. This location definitely has to work out the kinks from opening recently. Even though we only ordered 1 burger and fries to go, 2 parties of people who ordered more than us and after us, received their orders before we received ours. I saw people who couldn't follow the directions to the line to order and simply approached the counter to order and surprisingly, the cashiers took them ahead of everyone else! I guess people are too nice out here to say something.
I'd come back, but only under my predetermined set of conditions.
Price: about $8-$10 per person with burger, fries, soda, and tax.
Food: Burgers are 1 to 2 stars, the peanuts are 4 stars, and the location is 5 stars.
Service: Mediorcre
Ambiance: Good
Location: Fabulous
