After walking by this family-run kiosk on main street for months, we finally decided to go in and give it a try. It's a cute, little place where you order your dishes from the window and sit outside or inside on their wooden tables and benches. You may be surrounded by plants and furniture that they sell in the small store as you eat, or have a view of the parking lot, but it's well worth it once you take that first bite. We got three dishes, and only came out to $17!. Everything was flavorful, tasty and a little spicy - in a good way. And the best part of the meal, no leftovers.

Went to Eatalian in Gardena last weekend with a friend and had the best Italian food, and for the best price.  It's around a 30-minute drive, but well worth it once you get there. Lines may stretch outside the restaurant so get there early. The atmosphere is modern, yet relaxed. You can walk around and check out the dessert or coffee counters while you wait. We were seated pretty quickly and munched on warm bread with olive oil as our server went over the menu. We each got a pizza that was super-thin crust with lots of fresh ingredients. I chose the Speciale, which came with tomato sauce, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil. My friend got the Greek: tomato sauce, mozzarella, Feta cheese, Kalamata olives. Both were great. As if I wasn't full enough, I had to try the home-made gelato. They have loads of flavors - Pistacchio, Stracciatella, Cappuccino, Spagnola, Panna cotta, but I settled on the Hazelnut. I will definitely be going here again, and definitely want to try the pastas next.

I love The Galley located on Main Street in Santa Monica. It may look like an abandoned ship from the outside, but it is definitely a yacht when it comes to quality and taste of the food and drinks.

The menu offers everything from seafood to steaks to soups, salads and everything in between. Try their famous salad with the Galley "secret recipe" house dressing - taste like Thousand Island dressing with a hint of tang and something you can't quite place your taste buds on. Other favorites include: crab cakes, lobster tacos, clam chowder, pasta dishes and more.

Get there early because this place fills up. This isn't your typical bar food either. They have amazing salads, sandwiches and soups. Love their black bean soup, but tried their corn chowder the other day and it was sweet and delicious. Also tried their Golden Beet salad and wasn't disappointed. And just because I had to (plus felt like I ate pretty healthy), I got their fried pickled chips with a smoky chipotle-type sauce. Tips: Get there early, best to go early in the week or for lunch if you can. They also accept the KCRW Fringe Benefits card on food and alcohol.

Thyme Cafe & Market in Santa Monica serves up fresh, seasonal foods for locals to eat in or take out. The Ocean Park Blvd. spot offers up a relaxing cafe seating area inside and out where you can select gourmet foods off the ever-changing menu or snack on some prepared salads, homemade pastries, cakes, cookies and breads.

Get there early for brunch, it fills up fast and try favorites like the Fried Egg on a Pretzel Croissant (with avocado, lettuce, tomato, cheddar and mayo) and the BLT and egg sandwich on a fresh baguette with mixed greens. (pictures above and below)

Cha Cha Chicken

Tried out Cha Cha Chicken last night after living blocks from it for years. Not sure why I waited so long. I like the colorful atmosphere and easiness of going up to the counter and ordering and paying first. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Enchiladas - and one veggie one for my husband, which they were nice enough to do, as well as, the Vegetarian Stew  and black bean soup - all really good. The enchiladas were their signature dish and were smothered in the sweet, yet spicy mango pineapple jerk sauce. We sat outside and enjoyed the warm weather while we ate. The girl at the counter also told us that besides getting drinks there, you can BYOB your own - wine, beer, whatever. So, definitely doing that next time to save some money. Definitely going here again, can't wait to try out the some of the brunch specials next time.

Went to Rosti's last night and had a great meal. They don't have a liquor license, but you can bring your own wine - which will save on the bill. We got their Rosti pizza - basil, smoked mozzarella and tomatoes, minestrone soup, salad and a piece of Boston cream pie to go - for only $30. Where can you get a meal for two in Santa Monica for less than $50 these days. Great food, atmosphere and the staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely go there again.

Had some great food from the sea in Las Vegas this week at the restaurant American Fish, located in the Aria Hotel. The atmosphere was elegant, but not stuffy, and liked how you could see the chefs cooking the food in an open window leading to the kitchen in the back.

I had the Mixed Grill special, which is a selection of ocean fish and shellfish had like prawns, scallops, calamari, a white fish called walu. It also came with red kuri squash, celery root and roasted mushrooms.  My friend tried the mustard-marinated black cod with veggies and sweet potatoes. We also decided to split the broccoli and cheddar souffle with smoked bacon and charred scallions.

Overall, it was really good, a bit pricey, but then again isn't everything in Las Vegas?

Really good paninis, soups and salads. Good for lunch, nothing over the top, but good food, service and location if work in North Hollywood/Burbank area. They were quick and were really helpful in helping choose classic menu items for first-time guests.

Good food in a fast and pleasant atmosphere. Great for breakfast and reasonably priced. Got two eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes for $6.99. Also good lunch bites as well. Love the sunshine outside, but can't beat seeing the train going around the restaurant inside as well.
