I like this place. I've been a handful of times for various events. The space is just beautiful. I like the layout. You don't feel awkward walking in and suddenly being thrown into things. You can just ease in here. Survey the room. Then really make your "official" entrance to the party.

I'm a fan of Temple and Excess in this space. Went to a private event this evening that was also great. Don't know about any of the other nights that go on, but on a weeknight, it's a lovely space and the staff are friendly. What else can you really as for in a venue?

Wow. I just got my takeout from here. So. So. SO. SOOOOOO GOOD!

Delicious "wing dings"-- I didn't even get a chance to get myself a plate, before I tried one and it really just blew my mind. The sweet potato fries were a little soft, but also ridiculously tasty.

Absolutely ordering from here again. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu! And their delivery girl was super nice :)

I had been interested in checking this out. I was super hopeful, especially glancing at the menu and the lovely open seating area in the middle of the museum atrium. But I was terribly, horribly disappointed.

It took a good 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us, even though there were at least 8 workers standing around talking to each other. My diet coke didn't taste right at all. The formulation was definitely off, and on the gross side. The bread didn't come until my order came, which is more annoying than anything. I ordered the field greens salad and what a mistake that was. The greens were wilted and the tomatoes mealy. It was just swimming in dressing, which was tasty but I absolutely didn't need that much. Great idea, but very poorly executed.

The cornbread and butter however? Really tasty. And the tap water wasn't bad either.

The price range was pretty standard for Boston, on the higher side. If I'm chipping out that much, the highlights of the meal shouldn't be the bread, butter and tap water. Just sayin'

Ali is my "Fluevogologist" and she spoils me rotten. Even if I have something in mind, I know Ali will pull something out in my size that I'll love so much, I absolutely cannot walk out of the store without them. Despite the craziness that was today with Fluevog day, she was so attentive as I sat my butt down and proceeded to try on a bajillion shoes, all of her suggestion (as per my request--Bring me the most awesome shoes in a 9 I declared). I might've been a giant pain in the ass, but I have great faith in Ali and we've always nailed the PERFECT pair for me.

A brief description and she's off, knowing exactly what to pull out from the back to make choosing quite difficult. My first time in, not even intending to buy anything, I walked out with a pair of gold heeled Melrose (the last pair in the store of course--sign from the heavens, these were to be mine).

I did order my next pair online, but to be completely honest, I prefer going into the store. They're shipped out to this area from there and all of the staff are just so helpful. It's really not much effort to go to Newbury St (oh drat, you're making me go shopping outside?! Where there are people? How terrible!).

Yes, these shoes are not cheap, price wise nor quality wise. These shoes will last you forever with good care. They are an investment, and with your feet, a very precious asset indeed, there is no need to scrimp on quality or sacrifice comfort for fashion. They make comfortable, adorable, sexy, unique shoes that are worth every penny you spend. And they have the most amazing selection of men's shoes I've seen. A man in Fluevogs can steal my heart away!

So Ali, I thank you. You are my enabler and shoe temptress, a siren in heels.

I'm giving 3 stars because I went to a show here and the drinks are really, really good. The back room is a nice little venue, great bar.

The food, however, leaves much to be desired. A hell of a lot to be desired. Amy K and I still share a horrified joke from our awful experience last year with cheeseburger ravioli. Fried cheeseburger ravioli. I gave them a chance, and well... I wished I hadn't. But everything else we ordered-- soups and dip-- were particularly lack luster.

I wouldn't go back for the food, but I would definitely like to catch another show there and drink their cocktails.

I was here for the Rockabilly Weekender, and well it was effing amazing! This was a really nice location--fairly close to the strip for when you wanted to check that out, a lovely pool for lounging, and plenty of food options in a variety of price ranges.

I wish I had the chance to go bowling while I was there. Or take advantage of the spa. The staff was super nice with all of us invading at once. Tho the maids came ridiculously early in the morning and continued throughout the morning. I highly recommend having 'do not disturb' on your door while sleeping unless you like "Housekeeping! Housekeeping! Housekeeping?" at 8am. I might have made a sleepy Family Guy reference before rolling over.

There IS free wi-fi in the lobby at the Java Vegas coffee shop. The music selection was strange, completely ADD at best. Depeche Mode, Culture Club and Kelly Clarkson in an hour? My brain isn't up to that, esp not first thing in the morning. And by first thing I mean before noon.

This was my first stop in, and I will admit it was more of a help out a friend in need of lunch money stop. But me being me, I was quickly distracted by the super awesome beads, particularly the skulls. And before I could help myself, I was envisioning a headhunter necklace in technicolor, with Amy at my side, suggesting everything I needed-- keeping my budget and wants in mind. She was super helpful in showing me the techniques I needed, and offered that I could make my necklace in the shop.

And then I walked out with a kickass necklace and a head full of ideas for more jewelry that I could make--a lot cheaper without sacrificing quality. And to be honest, at least I know the quality in my jewelry I make from there is with quality products. You don't really know when you buy one in a store if it'll break next week.

I can't wait to go back for some classes--they looked really interesting and I know the staff is nice and ridiculously knowledgeable. Show owner comment »

Update - 5/2/2011
My review is well over-due for an update (esp considering last year they became 'my' shop when I started going to see Andy their apprentice).

First off, Andy is fucking badass. I love going in to see him, getting some work and chatting with him cuz he's awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to future work he'll be doing on me (and we've got plenty of ideas).

They are truly artists at Pino Bros. And all that entails. This can sometimes rub people the wrong way. But, when you work *with* them what they produce is maaaagic. Like unicorns and fairies and shit. But not the actual work being unicorns and fairies and shit. Just really effing cool in that sense. Like dinosaurs, but magical.

I went here once on the advice of a fellow student living in the dorm with me. They're technically proficient (okay, really awesome), but as a confident 18 yr old modifying my first tattoo, I didn't feel entirely welcome. Since then the artists have come to Emerson College a few times for the "Tattoo Convention" run by one of the RA's (the original student who suggested them to me) and they're really cool dudes. I love looking at their work and chatting with them, but the first experience I had at 18 still sticks with me.

I loved my experience here. I stopped by for a quick bite while waiting for a friend to check in to her room.

I was surprised by how friendly everyone was-- I was by myself, seated before the grill/cooking stations, and several people--hosts, a chef, and and several waiters greeted me and checked in on how my meal was. Oh, and the lovely gentleman next to me, Neal, who must be a regular because he was greeted in such a personal, friendly manner. I felt so welcome there, and absolutely can't wait to go back. That is the type of experience I yearn for every time I come into a restaurant. To be treated with such kindness that I feel like I'm a friend of the house even on my first trip in. I wasn't dressed super fancy, but I was treated with the utmost kindness and respect as if I was a VIP.

Now, on to the actual food. Everything was so amazingly tasty. So. Amazingly. Tasty. I seriously questioned my religious beliefs when I tasted their butternut squash side dish. Bruleed with crispy fried brussel sprout leaves and then a crispy pancetta disk to top it off. Holy. Hell. It was... truly breathtaking. I immediately recommended it to Neal next to me, who ordered it for himself and completely agreed with me. However the manager(?) stopped by and while raving about how delicious it was, she was sad to say that with the impending arrival of the spring menu, it was soon to be off the menu.

After my delicious butternut squash side as appetizer (and I ate every single bit of it my plate was wiped CLEAN), I had one of their delightful pizzas, which was so incredibly delicious. Wonderful buratta mozzarella, endive cooked to perfection, and delicate winter pear on a white pizza. My mind was completely blown, and unfortunately I could not finish the pie. But, I had the rest wrapped up and treated my friend I was waiting for to my amazing leftover pizza.

Spectacular service. Lovely atmosphere. Welcoming and simply fantastic staff. I'm totally coming back!

Kowloon Restaurant

I'd been hearing about Kowloon for ages from the ranks of my friends. Never went on my own until most recently when it became the funventure destination of myself and Miss Amy K.

I liked the expansiveness of the menu, though it did make deciding difficult. I opted for the basic Kowloon Combination appetizer sampler--a variety of my Americanized Chinese food favorites so I could accurately judge how the food was. It was amazing! The pork spareribs were smoked and not overly saucy or greasetastic which frequently occurs. The friend wontons were standard as well as the chicken wings. The spring roll was another standout contender, and the presentation with the top literally left on fire, was fabulous. My companion had the tangerine beef, which was scrumptious. We split the Saugus Wings which were TO DIE FOR. Best sweet and tangy garlicy chicken wings I've ever eaten. Wonderful, and I'm salivating just thinking about it!

We both opted for drinks in the take-home souvenir glass, which were just delicious tiki drinks. I absolutely MUST have a drink in a souvenir coconut next time! The bartenders know what they're doing, and as it's a kitchy tiki bar, why not play along with the theme?

The prices were not cheap, but the portions where ginormous! I had another meal out of my appetizer sampler, as well as my friend with her food.

I can't wait to come back here! In fact, I'm thinking of belatedly skelebrating my birthday here :)
