The chipotle carnitas with mango salsa and plantains is probably the best thing I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant - spicy hot and so delicious.

Empty Bottle

Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday--you name it--the bands at Empty Bottle are amazing. Typical price of a ticket is around $12-15 and has proven to always be worth it. They have a great stair-step cove you can sneak over to that provides an excellent view just over the heads of the front 50-75 people who are eager to have an even more intimate up-close interaction with the band. But the great thing about this venue is that no matter where you are standing, you feel the music.

Great for two or three friends to hang out, but wouldn't dare try more. And forgive me for saying, but even exceptionally large people would find this environment to be a bit uncomfortable. That said, excellent beverage selection and neighborhood vibe.

Great chill vibe. Bartender made an amazing Manhattan - one that easily competed with the likes of Violet Hour or The Drawing Room's $14 variety (and it was less than $8). Granted I was here on a Tuesday night, so weekend activity remains to be seen, but I look forward to finding out.

Belly Shack

After trying Urban Belly, I was curious to see what the adorable couple had up their sleeve with Belly Shack - a latin american/asian fusion food theme with a side of LA. Love the communal tables, BYOB, and simplicity of the menu. I tried the Koren BBQ, blackened talapia, tostones, and brussel sprouts with chorizo and surprisingly the brussel sprouts won (these are definitely not your childhood nightmare boiled brussel sprouts). I'd say in the end, I'm a bigger fan of Urban Belly - more flavorful entrees and a warmer setting, but certainly worth experiencing.

Things to love about Urban Belly: casual atmosphere (but with great aesthetics), communal table seating, huge portions of soul-warming brothy goodness, and BYOB. I ordered the Udon bowl with shrimp with coriander and lime chili and it was deelish. Feels like a great place to visit on a cold evening.

I visited Art De Triumph for a custom framing service and Nancy and Marcy are wonderful--very helpful and patient with you while you make a decision. The art turned out beautifully and I even received a thank you note in the mail. They are a premium priced service, but very worth it!

I had the worst customer service experience ever at this salon. It started with a half-hearted "hello" at the door and ended with me blow drying my own hair because my stylist had moved onto another customer. Seeing as they're rated consistently high on Yelp--not sure what happened here, but I now go to Fringe and am much happier. Keep your money and go elsewhere!
