Food was great, but the seating was like a medieval torture chamber.

You know how when you ask for tomatoes at other sandwich shops, and they they pull out some nasty yellow tomato ends and slap them right on your sandwich without blinking an eye? THUNDERCLOUD DOESN'T DO THAT. Been going here for years and that simple fact still wins me over.

Thundercloud makes sandwiches with the time and care that I would make a sandwich for myself. These people make Subway's "sandwich artists" look like chumps.

Twine Time with Paul Ray is the greatest radio show ever to exist in all of eternity.  I can't say enough good things about it.  My mind is consistently blown, every Saturday from 7-11pm.

My only wish is that the Twine Time playlist was updated more regularly on the website.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

This is seriously the greatest movie theater I've ever been to.  Aside from the obvious benefit of serving drinks and delicious food during the movie, the stuff they play before the movie starts is what wins me over.

Instead of playing lame screenvision entertainment, Alamo mixes their own awesome pre-show reel, which is related to the movie.  For example, when I saw Iron Man, they played old Iron Man cartoons beforehand.  When I saw "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", they played videos that had to do with Hawaii, including a killer 80's commercial for some travel agency.

My decision-making-process for choosing where to see a movie has changed from favoring a particular movie theater, to requiring the Alamo Drafthouse.

I had such a great experience at this place.  As a nerd, I loved the ultra-cool gadgets for checking your eyes, and Dr. McQueen was really nice.

Further, they had a good selection of glasses, and was able to pick a pair out I really like in the same visit.  Usually that sort of thing would take me a year.

If you've got eye trouble, come here.

This place is a high quality dive.  Excellent beer selection, good games, great jukebox, and an interesting atmosphere.

The best part, though?  The owner's zero tolerance policy for douche bags.  Not a popular policy with the douche bag crowd (see single star reviews), but good for the rest of us who want a great neighborhood bar.

Update - 3/28/2010
Since adding "More Home Slice" next door, wait times have been cut in half.  I ordered a pizza at 6:30 on a weekday and instead of it taking the usual hour, it took 20 minutes.  All is right with the world.

The quality of the food is outstanding.

However, if you expect this place to be quick, prepare to be disappointed.  The wait for a table and the wait for your food are to be expected, but the wait time at the window for a quick slice or a sub to be made will test your patience.  Even when it's seemingly deserted and you ask for a slice of pizza you can see sitting there, freshly out of the oven, mere feet away from your watering mouth, you will *still* wait a relative eternity.  That's just how they roll.

Still, though, best Pizza in town.

If you like mediocrity, you'll love Gueros!

However, if you aspire to eat better foods, i.e. ones that don't simply quell hunger pains, but rather satisfy taste buds, I would suggest trying elsewhere.

"But I heard their live music is great!"

Incorrect.  I live close enough to Gueros to hear every act they have, and I consider it one of the detriments to living in this location.*

*Unless you happen to like hearing horrible covers of Mustang Sally and Ain't No Sunshine every night.

You can't fool me.  Putting a TV at my table will not distract me enough not to notice your awful pizza, and tacky decor.  Nice try, though.  Next time try taking the money you spent on expensive flat panels and Direct TV, and put it towards quality ingredients.

People come back for the food, not to see reruns of Matlock in HD.  On that note, I won't be back.

Sucks, sucks, sucks.

Stacey P, I'm with you.  I was at that same Brett Dennen/Mason Jennings/Missy Higgins show, and the crowd was awful.  I don't think that those musicians attract the frat-boy/skank-ho/douchebag type of crowd, so I can only assume it was Lazona Rosa.

At first I figured the people who were not paying attention and were instead passing the time by heckling the opening acts were just waiting for the headliner, but was mistaken when even through the final act, the "who can make the loudest indian war cry" contest continued.  Unbelievable, these assholes.

I blame you, Lazona Rosa.
