La Quinta Inn & Suites La Canterra
Category: Hotels & Travel
This property is great and I would definitely stay here again. It is off the beaten path for most, being in far NW San Antonio on Loop1604, BUT well worth the drive out.
This is a NEW property..the best Hotel is the newest Hotel, right? Yes in this case.
The mattress, linens, and towels were all great.. 5 pillows on the king bed! All amenities were provided except there was no phone book or USA today which I have come to expect in La Quinta's, but being a new property I gave them a pass on this.
The breakfast bar was OK, the hours are 6-9 weekdays, 7-10 weekends. Seems to reflect feedback from some other San Antonio visitors that complained about weekend hours being too early. It was the standard "early start breakfast" common to La Quinta, up to par..no complaints.. oh, only fruit was apples, no oranges or bananas.
The business center was great, computer was fast, free laser printer, in a private room, not in the lobby. great.
The exercise/gym room was great also. A couple of treadmills, exercise bike, weights, towels, very good!
Pet friendly, stayed there with a 50lb dog, no problem..my dog doesn't wee/poo inside or whine/bark. Some La Quinta properties have weight restrictions, this one did not and our dog behaved during the visit. Thanks La Quinta, La Cantera!
Parking was good, security was good, front desk was ok also. Thanks Mike!
I would recommend this to anyone needing a place to spend the night in San Antonio.

First to Review
This is a new property, opened in Jan 2010. The rooms and staff are outstanding. Being new, the property is very clean.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Rates were very competetive.
The location is in the far north-west area of San Antonio but easy to get to.
I highly recommend this property and will come again.
We have not checked out and are staying another day. More comments to come after check-out.
]The Pork Ribs are WAY overseasoned with black pepper. They were inedible. After eating two I couldn't continue.
The creamed corn was great and met my expectations after reading reviews on the internet.
Maybe the baby-back ribs are ok, I don't know. I will never order the pork ribs and suggest no one else does if you have any kind of palate.
Samples of turkey and brisket were OK although my wife thought the turkey was dry.
Oh, the pork ribs were very dry and needed sauce but it didn't overcome the extreme black pepper rub that ruined the meat.
Sorry but I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you just want to eat cream corn
First place we found was Black's Barbecue, 2 block from the beautiful county court house. It was early, about 10:15 in the morning..the place was already open! Thanks much for opening early~we were hungry! Our dog loved the across-street shaded parking lot!
We went in and found a handwritten list of instructions for ordering which was helpful. They didn't treat us like tourists, which we were!
I ordered the brisket, from the fatty end. My wife had the ribs. The dog had a little of each in the parking lot! Although both were great I think the ribs were better than the brisket. About half way thru my 1/2lb of brisket it got a little dry and I tried the sauce. It was ok..it moistened up the dry pieces of brisket.
I got green beans and mashed potatoes for sides, the cream gravy was OUTSTANDING; the green beans were excellent also, with a little bit of onions added.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is great, the pictures and stuff on the walls... We didn't see Mr Black to thank him for the outstanding service, so if he sees this now, Thanks for an outstanding experience.
It was worth the 15 minute side-trip off IH-10 and the ribs were far superior to Original Rudy's on IH-10 west of San Antonio!

The creamed corn is great. My wife and I ordered the pork ribs, they were unedible! I tried some of the sauce on a rib and was overwhelmed by the black pepper. I thought maybe it was in the sauce so I at another without sauce. It didn't take more than one bite before I knew it wasn't the sauce but actually the rib that was laden with black pepper.
It was horrible and I don't know if the guy that rubbed these had a bone to pick with the restrarant or what. Maybe I should have ordered the Beef baby-back ribs? If the pit-master tasted these why would he have let them go thru to be sold? Very bad!
Maybe the brisket is ok, or the baby back ribs, I don't know and will never go back to find out.

At 11:02 a gentleman opened the door and greeted us as we entered. Staff was quick and helpful...I believe another review said the wait staff was rude, no so. On to the food
The onion rings are great! A little pricey at $5.95 but worth the experience, at least once.
My wife had the liver & onions. She thought it was great but said the mashed potatoes were nothing write home about. She got the Chocolate Icebox pie to-go and is eating it now. Salad was on the dinner plate and was wilted
I was going to order the chicken fried steak but thinking I was going to have beef ribs for dinner I looked for something else and decided on the fried scallops. I've had better. I was expecting that sweetness, kinda like crab meat and it wasn't there.
Next time I will have the CFS or breaded cutlet. This place is well worth the experience but don't wait too late, the line grows very fast.
The location is less than 10 minutes off I-10 and not hard to find. Well worth the few minutes driving time if you are traveling thru.
I recommend this to all BBQ fanatics.

This is not the rustic restraunt we were expecting. It was self-service, staff watching TV the whole time we were there but food was good.
Don't know there is anything special about this fried chicken, maybe better at the flagship restraunt, wherever that is.
Sides were nothing special. Would probabily come here again.
Dog enjoyed all OutStanding

The store called after the job was complete to check on our satisfaction. I told them a door drags the carpet when opened or closed. They said someone would call to check it out.
It is now 3 weeks later and no one has called. Other than that the job was satisfactory.
